If anyone is interested: The sound of the orcs marching was recorded at stadium in Wellington, NZ during a rugby match I was at. At half time Peter Jackson, unexpectedly, walked on to the field with a microphone and told everyone that he was there to record sound for his Lord of the Rings movies. His instructions to the crowd were simple, stamp as loud as you can in time with the beat. And so we did. 30,000 people all stamping their feet at Westpac Stadium and the sound was recorded and then used in the Helm's Deep scenes. The energy was unreal. What rugby game.
I swear like 5 mins ago I tought “hey this sounds pretty much like the maori pre match ritual song” since I started watching rugby some weeks ago. Never tought it wouod actually be
Only a Dark Lord can make The Horde be a threat, without him they are scarce and separated, and fight among them selves, they are a problem to small towns but not for Kingdoms, but If they form The Horde they are a Threat to the World
Actually orcs is pretty disciplined fighter in every battle in the franchise, he can maintaind good formation most of the time, sauron army for example is very various, orc, uruk man from different places, troll, but can maintain a pretty good organization and tactics. In general the real problem is the lack of skill and equipement for most of the army, one generic orc soldier is not much than a human conscript, but most of the time the superior number can tap this problem. Lack of cavarly is probably a big deal, helm deep and minas tirith siege end bots with a flank cavarly attack and the general poor morale of the orc unit.
Problem is they're war-slaves pretty much, apart frommthe Uruk elite maybe. As Ugluk himself puts it, only half-trained mountain maggots... I also ask myself how old most of them are, would't be surprised if Sauron actually fielded child-soldiers... a dire thought!
I never had that much of a problem with the cgi orcs in the Hobbit but man when put right next to LOTR scenes it really shows how much better the practical ones look
They are badass. They were Mordor’s elite shock troopers. And near the end of the battle of Minas Tirith as the Mordor forces were pushed back across the river Anduin, the Easterlings turned with their backs to the river and fought the pursuing Gondor forces “to the last man”.
The uruk hai are my favourite race out of all the orcs , uruks ect love their armor and discipline, the uruk hai berserkers are my favourite though they are stronger than the uruk hai and are the first ones sent into battle you can see this in helms deep when they are pushed up on ladders by the uruk hai to clear out walls for the uruk hai to climb safely , uruk hai berserkers hardly wear armor just a helmet for flexibility in combat and they dont feel much pain due to the human blood being put into their helmets before battle to drive them crazy gives them blood lust , still think lurtz is the best uruk hai though better than the berzerkers but he wasn't canon in the books
the scenes from the hobbit were definitely awesome, but my favourite is the isen march on helms deep, with the rain pouring and everything. complete perfection
The contrast between the Uruk hai and ALL THE OTHER orcs is so ... vast. An important detail i just noticed was The Uruk'Hai are the only Orks not marching to a Drum beat becasue they are so diciplined! they don't need one to time their march. think about the implications. They also don't do any march chanting or other of the usual noises you would associate with an army on the march. When they do its becasue it's part of their strategy to rattle the enemy, they approach helms deep in silence aside from the clanking of weapons and armor and foot falls. And frankly it makes them even scarier. the Ukruk Hai are ELITE SHOCKTROOPERS, are true army maching in lockstep. They form very diciplined ranks, have effective complex strategies and tactics, superior equipment and specialized troops for specific jobs. they seem to intuitively know exactly what to do. without any officer bellowing orders or keeping them in line. The other orcs are mostly depending on numbers and viciousness.
It amazes me that the people of middle earth fought these creatures for thousands of years. I love tolkien for showing us his world. Its one of the best things i have seen in life.
If you notice every single battle that works fine they have overwhelming numbers possibly not the best equipment but very functional equipment as good as dwarves in men they possess greater tactics and as said a far larger army with very high morale and the armies of men and dwarves and elves seem to always win with plot armor right at the end they get a deus ex machina moment like The dwarves charging out of the mountain LOL what? They were cornered the elves all dead nearly I'm very large army with artillery surrounding the mountain and 10 dwarves made a difference with plot armor
LOL if you noticed there wasn't a single battle that involved humans and and orcs in the original trilogy the humans always win right at the very end when they're about to fall they always win with a cavalry charge? Lmao I mean the siege of minis tirith there was thousands of orcs Giants and half trolls with artillery siege towers air support from nazgul wyverns and a buttload of long Spears and they were defeated by a giant cavalry army should have never worked the first line of horses that died at the Spears of the vanguard orc army and the rest of the horses behind wouldn't have been able to get past the bodies not to mention the volleys of arrows the orcs would be shooting from their siege towers artillery and archers........(LOL sorry it just really bugs me that they used like power of friendship style plot armor to win the day instead of you know actual war tactics that's my one pet peeve about this amazing story)
@@church_world_domination9357 do you really think i will read all of that? Do you reall think ppl give a shit about ur opinion? I will not give u the attention u seek. This comment is for everyone who wants to answer him: dont do it. He does it for the attention he doesnt get in real life so just ignore him.
Actually all scenes are from six diffrent movies, but all are about one universe. Exactly they are 2 trilogues, ,,The Lord of the Rings" and ,,The Hobbit"
I like to think that their singing/shouting and marching music is a leftover thing from them being made out of elves. Music, different than what elves create, is what connects them to their distant kin.
Even though individually orcs were rarely a match for a man, elf, or dwarf, they still were the allegory for the industrial war machine that Tolkien witnessed first hand. It's terrible but effective.
Actually Dwarves and elves were still much better warriors, with better equpiment, strategy and phiscally more stronger. Dont forget that orcs and trolls were useless under the sun
@@avrace2708 If this were always the case, there would be no threat or fear, no one would bother to face them in such large numbers, nor would the battles be so bloody, one should always see beyond the obvious and if they are an enemy as fearsome as so much the elves like the dwarves themselves mention it, it must be because it is so
@@commissargab6181 In books, yes. Some elves could even fight against Balrogs or demi-gods like Sauron and defeat them. Orcs were nothing for elves. Only movies maked orcs (especially in hobbit) such dangerous
@@avrace2708 i was talking about your comment that says "orcs and trolls were useless under the sun" i should be more specific my bad. Can you explain why you said that? Idk just want to know im pretty sure only trolls are useless under the sun
Loved those movies, I hope there will be more of those epic battles in the future, there are no other movies like that. BIG FUCKING FAN since Im 4 years old.
@@sassuskrassus3166 To be honest, I didn't really put hope in Amazon, it's nice that they want to continue this, but in the trailer alone the characters don't really appeal to me and don't really fit into the universe as you know it. That may sound evil, it would be incredibly cool if it turns out well, but let's see... it's Amazon, after all.
@@sassuskrassus3166 some black and asian dwarfs 🤡 (hog riiiderrr) Don't take it seriously, I'm just joking 🤣 I really want to see those new ones, hope it will be good.
Did you know that the battering ram in the return of the king is named Grond? It's the exact same name of the hammer of Melkor, the great enemy of all of Arda during the ages before LOTR
I gotta say Mordor's armies weaponry looks so..shoddy? I mean some of it looks like two pieces of metal quickly melded together or held together by some kind of rope. I always wondered how that could be effective against proper forged armor and such as a kid watching these movies.
Im no expert on this topic but to be fair I think that this kind of quality would be common as a "simple" soldier back in Medival times, owning a full plate armor with chainmail, helmet and a sword was a luxury and only very few could afford this equipment (even tho in movies almost everyone looks that well equiped) a "simple" man who still had to fight for their lord in war-times probably used that kind of equipment
@@sassuskrassus3166 It wasn't that effective. One of the reasons why the free peoples of middle erth were able to gain some vicories over the Enemy is their ability to create arms of quality and power while the orcs have to relie on weight of numbers alone, since even properly armored warriors aren't invincible to so many weapons.
@@sassuskrassus3166 Depends on the time and who the common soldier was, since at first they would have to provide their own equipment. But there were a lot of converted farm tools, like the bill hook.
What is described in the Lord of the Rings is much better than that. The Orcs of Cirith Ungol were not that bad armed and had decent weapons, although there were differences in quality. To give them primitive weapons is more a film-thing than it is based in lore, since Tolkien sad that they could make weapons well (in the Hobbit). Actually on some occasions it were the "primitve" Elves who suffered a lot when facing Orcs which were much better armed. That was the case in the first battle of the war in Beleriand, just before the Noldor crossed the sea, when the elves of Ossiriand were encircled and cut down. And if I remember right, similar was the fate of many woodland elves at the start of the war of the last alliance at the battle at Morannon. Orcsoldiers seem often wear chainmail, sometimes maybe g´heavier armor, and they had heavy spears, scimitars and axes. And of course many of the blades and arrows were poisened.
They aren't always loosing. They conquered the western part of Rohan and Osgiliath. Minas Morgul was originally part of Gondor and Arnor in the north completely fell apart because of them.
In books humans (especially numenorians) were psyhically stronger and taller than orcs, and had much better weapons and plate armor, orcs fought for blind hatred to everyfhing, humans fought to protect their homelands and families, this is much stronger motovation to foght
this is epic and scary but at the same time it feels like an AD to join the orc military (" the orc military is the greatest in the world and we are so badass")
Orcs sound great on the march. It's the battle I worry about :). Ask the Easterlings and Southrons. They're like there go the Orcs when do we need to ride the rescue?
Yes it is , Elves from Valinor , Noldors from Supreme King Fingolfin and Vanyars from The Highest Supreme King Ingwe , their army was the one that defeated Morgoth under Eonwe command.
Mostly because the Hobbit had a very unfair production schedule. Had Warner Bros just left Jackson to work his magic like he did with lotr then we’d probably have an equally awesome prequel to lotr
@@YodaOnABender I agree to some degree. The problem is that LOTR combined great practical effects with great CGI. Hobbit only had great CGI, they lacked the practical. Either due to time or lack of care, IDK. But sometimes you need a combination of both to make it believable.
