Mr Odom and son, I have had my Oregon 620-120 for over 4 years and have watched countless videos over that time. Most are okay some not very good but yours truly stands out as far and away the best tutorial I have ever watched and I want to thank you both for taking the time to explain this grinder. Oregon should use it as their tutorial as I have never felt totally comfortable with my grinder until now. I am a homeowner in Colorado and heat my home with wood that I harvest annually and thus have several chainsaws both 3/8 and .325 and both full commercial and semi-chisel. Keep up the great work and thanks again.

I think what your referring to sliding the table back and forth about the 13 min area is for full chisel chain . I know Oregon produces full chisel chains . on your particular grinder if you want the chisel chain setting you pull the grinder table towards you for right hand cutters 10 degrees as is displayed on the table as well . for left hand cutters you push it away from you ten degrees beyond the zero mark . for lack of a better way to put it it makes the tip of the tooth with a more pointed beak at the tooth tip. If its anything other than chisel chain you leave the table at the zero mark. This can be confusing at times the other Oregon grinders is jyst the opposite of what I just said. Its in the make of the particular grinder. If you had a model 520 grinder the base actually tilts . the vice portion of this grinders and the 410 you make the vice portion come towards you for right hand cutter 10 degrees . if its left hand cutters the vice portion will be pointed away from you 10 degrees . anything else other than chisel chain you could leave the table at the center hash mark which is zero degrees . but your doing a good job explaining it. Just saying.
Yes you’ve got the right idea, however not all “full” chisel chain requires the 10 deg tilt on the top plate. Some Oregon chain does, some don’t. And Stihl RS does not. They want 0 degrees top plate tilt. So it’s not a one size fits all for full vs semi chisel. I suppose a man can do what he wants since it’s his chain and experiment to see what gets him the best results for the type of wood and environment he’s cutting in. Different times of the year when wood is frozen vs not and sappy wood vs not..tilt angles can matter. Thanks for taking time to watch and comment. Take care and do come again, please
Yea your right about still . Oregon does do that. I can tell in a second when I see I full chisel and ill ask do you want it sharpened back as full chisel . I don't think your sacrificing much if you don't fool with it . I like Skylar and I ain't seen him. They called me that for forty years at work. I never knew why I thought it was sort of comical . See that’s what I’m talking bout I’ve watched some videos yesterday and trying to figure it out. But step by step you have taken the time to illustrate what to do and not to do. I use to pay for chains to be sharpen . If had a tree job I would just go out and buy a new chain. I end up accumulating about 30 chains . But I got this Oregon chain sharpener and now I want to learn how to do this with confidence. But I love the country boy style the way you demonstrated it. You a true woodsmen. Great video and much appreciated. Real life sharpening vs. trying to decipher the manual is a great advantage to getting started. My only critique would be some of the close ups were blurry and when you shine your flashlight, it's so bright I can't tell what I'm seeing. I use the twin to that Oregon branded one, the Tecomec Super Jolly. Like you my first grinder and like you I am very pleased. I was not as happy with the pink wheels that came with it and took the chance on spending extra on the CBN wheels. That gamble paid off, the cutting was cleaner and way less chance of over-heating the tooth. Good show!

This model does very buddy. I really like it. I kinda naysay’ed too. But finally I broke down and bought one. I can still get a little sharper chain by hand filing, but it takes a lot longer. And as I said, if you’re pushed for time and whatnot…this machine will def speed things up and you get consistency. Good or bad lol. As long as ya take time to set it up right, it does a great job. I’m well pleased and would buy another
You’re most welcome. You could do that if you like, use a new chain. The factory angles are sorta preset for “general” cutting and for most folks, it’s fine. You can tailor a chain to fit your specific needs and wood also. The angles I shared in the video is pretty close to what I like to run on my chains and the wood I’m in. I know you talked about Stihl and Oregon chains but wondered if you knew the specs for Husqvarna. I’ve reached out to them and all they do is try and sell me their roller sharpener so I’m trying to find the angles so I can use my 620 on them. This video is the best I’ve seen regarding the usage of the 620. Thanks!!
Thank you sir! Well, you can use Oregon angles if you like. Those angles are just sort of a starting point or suggestion anyway. You could always buy a new chain, and then set your angles to match it if ya wanted too also. But for most full chisel chain these angles will suffice. I have a drunk neighbor (call him Otis like on Mayberry) that thinks he can sharpen a chain better than new. bwahaha Looks like a nice sharpener y`all got there.
I wouldn’t say as good. Mainly because the grinder will grind everything the same and you always start on the worst tooth. So you take more off than you would with round filing typically. Example…if you ding three or fourth teeth..you just file those out and set the drags accordingly with all the teeth and you’re good to go. With the grinder, you set up on those three or four teeth and then grind the whole chain to same as those. So yeah, you’ll lose some life out of your chains. Now normal every day sharpening assuming you don’t ding a chain, then it’s not to bad at all. Just light taps with the grinder will get it back sharp taking minimal off. You have to be super careful on the light taps and take just a little at a time. And not get the chain to hot or it will temper the teeth and you won’t file it again with a hand file. So you gotta keep that in mind also. Anyway, hope this helps and take care! Thanks for watching
You can if you want too at 10-15 degrees. Stihl recommends 0 degree for their RS chain which is full comp full chisel. It’s best to experiment and see what works best for you. I don’t go strictly by the manufacturer’s recommendations. Just sorta play with it and see whatcha like. Thanks for watching my friend and do come again.

For most people, the sharpener would be a great purchase. Take your time and go slow learning it. However, it will NOT replace hand filing a chain. I can do a way better job with the hand file. It is a nice machine. But idk if I would personally spend the money on another one tbh with you since I’ve had it now for a year or better and ground many chains with it.
