If the ACC came out and said “For $300 million any school can leave”. They would have at minimum $1.2 billion about 10 seconds later…or how ever long it would take Clemson, Miami, FSU, UNC can write a check.

How crazy and sad would it be if the PAC 12 Championship game this year is between Oregon State and Washington State? Also, the Apple Cup and the Civil War are going to be highly emotional this year. I do not want Stanford or cal in big 10 , I don’t see how they would bring valuable matchups, obviously from research standpoint those are very valuable schools. But I really want Miami and Florida State, and sit at 20 and see if notre dame ever decides to join I think those 20 schools would provide some really top notch attractive matchups

If SEC doesn’t snatch up Miami, FSU and Clemson will be a big mistake. The 4th school would be a toss up. But could you imagine Notre Dame in the SEC? Wow 😮

Everyone talking about teams in the ACC wanting to jump ship...why not just try to add more teams, ala the Big 12? Give Notre Dame an offer they can't refuse, along with "your basketball team must also go independent unless your football program also joins the ACC". Poach Tulane, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, or Memphis; all who would be thrilled to join the ACC. An 18 team, or even a 16 team ACC conference that includes Notre Dame would be a legit conference.

While there is an uncertainty in all of this, I think two more likely things after this are az azst and utah to b12 and the SEC counter punching. 18 is now the bar and it will rise again so the b12 won't be worried about going to 16 (previous reports had just az going for 14). Another interesting thing is the highly academic and/or not as rev generating public schools being left behind in pac12 are similar to those the ACC would shed. Wake and Duke are extremely good schools.

I like Mark’s use of the word “silos”. I agree, for scheduling/travel, but not divisions. Big Ten gets to 24 total over 4-6 years. 3 silos of 8. 1-2 guaranteed rivalry. 3-4 within silo. Rest cross-silo rotating. But no divisions. Top 2 teams regardless of silo play for championship, if want championship game, based upon win/loss and pre-agreed upon tiebreakers.

It should have been the best 32 closest to the 4 corners.. Washington, SoCal, Florida, and Maine.. Or divide it like a + instead of X.. Whatever requires minimal regional travel for the fans.. Simply start out with march madness bracket tournament in each region.. rinse and repeat half the season, then play the next closest region a quarter of the season until it's reduced to the top 4 teams of each region.. this is when you start the Sweet 16 college football playoffs.. Also the Natty equivalent

Greg Sankey absolutely does not get what he wants all the time. If he did, the SEC would be playing 9 conference games. He clearly wanted that, but could only get 5 teams to agree with him. Also, his failure to negotiate a re-opening of the ESPN deal if they added new teams (TX & OK) left big money on the table. He skates on the significant regional recruiting advantage his conference has.

None of this is good; the Midwest has a culture, the Big 10 exercises this culture. This will dilute the culture of the Big 10 and rivalries. This is not good. This is divisive and lucrative at the cost of the Big 10 culture.

ESPN & FOX deserve a lot of blame. They've been pushing the conferences to make these drastic moves. You probably remember ESPN putting pressure on the ACC to kill the old Big East about 20 years ago. That was a preview of the playbook we've been seeing recently.

The Apple Cup is the Washington-Washington State yearly rivalry game. It's one of the longest running rivalries in FBS football at 114 years.

What is crazy is that this almost certainly guarantees there will only be a champ from the SEC or B10. The only school that could possibly actually win now, outside of those two conferences, is Clemson. The B12, to their credit, is at least the best basketball conference and can't be ignored because of that. The outlier now is the ACC.

PAC 12 had undeniable talent. B1G now owns the West and East Coast recruiting markets. I expect the B1G to start closing the talent gap w/SEC over the next decade. SEC will most likely always have the edge though.
