Organometallic Reactions Part 5: Nucleophilic/Electrophilic Attack on Ligands

With all of the organometallic reactions we have seen thus far, there is always a change occurring with one or more metal-ligand bonds. Now let's look at some ways in which reactions can occur exclusively on the ligands themselves. Ligands can be subject to attack by both nucleophiles and electrophiles, so let's see some examples of this!

The timing of this video! I'm literally doing homework on these mechanisms right now 😆 thanks for the upload!

Thank you, I LOVE all of playlists, but the organic chemistry playlists and this one are amazing! I have been watching all of your videos since 2018, will be graduating in a month as a chemical engineer from Rensselaer. - Orhan

Thanks a lot Dave. Can we please have a round 2 with David Weiss ? 😂. The first one was so funny that I watch the video everyday.

Hello professor! I'm from your mathematics series and I just finished it recently. And I'm wondering what is next after multivariable calculus(advanced math)? And do you have any plans continuing the series any further?

So, if I was a more loyal Professor Dave subscriber and watched all of his videos, would I then understand any of this?

Well, if that was the goal I'd recommend starting with his General Chemistry playlist. This video is stuff that I'm learning in my third year of a chemistry degree.

I was very fortunate to know or work alongside many of the pioneers of M-C chemistry., including Nobel Prize winner EO Fischer…discoverer of Fischer carbenes and Fischer carbynes. Also DM me….got to work on your pronunciation of “ligand”…
@galileog8945
@galileog8945 Год назад
This is how "ligand" is pronounced by chemists, essentially everywhere. In what chemistry world do you live?
@paulmoran7026
@paulmoran7026 Год назад
@@galileog8945 I’m an organometallic chemist ..30+ years experience with “ligands” on 3 continents, in 5 languages, not once have I heard it pronounced that way. Particularly, with the emPHAsis on the wrong syLLAble. In what chemistry world do you live in?
@galileog8945
@galileog8945 Год назад
@@paulmoran7026 chemists pronounce it "ligands", biologists "laigands". I heard the emphasis on the correct syllable (LI-gand). Maybe adjust your hearing aid?
@paulmoran7026
@paulmoran7026 Год назад
@@galileog8945 Don’t need lessons in how chemists pronounce it… its a video about ligands for transition metal ligands, so your biology retort is utterly irrelevant. Maybe try to remember your own smart arse comment about what chemistry world i live in before then trying to tell a veteran organometallic chemist how chemists pronounce it, particularly a guy who has >30 years experience ligands . Seems it your hearing and comprehension that’s at fault…. Laters bell-end… syllables emphasized since you don’t know the correct emphasis for “ligand”, you should know I’m calling you a “bell-end” and not a “bel-lend” Take your loss and move on….
