It's nice to see that the movement is decorated even though the watch doesn't have a see through case back. That's the kind of things you only see in higher end watches.
@OFD

The movement was actually very nice looking, definitely an upgrade visually from previous models. Just just didn't talk about it as much because of the sticker;-0. This is the world we live in, Chinese are making a case to a specification that must be met, and they are doing a pretty darn good job!

As others have said, I'm not entirely surprised. I'm sure they are still assembled and regulated in Japan before shipment though. I've had my Ray for nearly 3 weeks. The last time I set the watch was over 2 weeks ago and it is running only 5 seconds slow. What ever Orient are doing - please may it continue!

Thanks for the video, Aron! Do not be surprised. This is just 200$ watch, and even in such a price, the movement is made in Japan! For instance, I really liked Seikos, but I've got really disapointed with them. They not just casing their watches in Malaysia or whatever, but their movements are also not tracable where are made. The quality is not as the old one Seikos. I had some Seiko 5 sport with 4r36 movement, and after less than an year just stopped ftom nothing. No bangs or so ever things. I moved the hands and the watch started again. When I looked trough the case back glass sow some partickles of dirt on brand new watch!! I have Orient M-force completely made in Japan written on dial, case back, and is 300€. You can have also Orient Star for a bit more also completely made in Japan. The accuracy is outstanding - + 9 to 12 sec/day. The Seiko was jumping from +40 to + 8 (at least) every day withaout chages in temperatures or positions. Seiko got greedy and their watches are going to worse, but Orient keeps producing great and quality watches!

I would like to give my opinion here. TAG does the same thing as Orient, but TAG charges ten times the price. That's a ripoff. However, I must first admit, I admire and own Rolex watches, and the value of a Rolex is what you pay. Some say most of a Rolex watch, retail, is paying for advertising, the name, big profits. I recently bought a brand new Rolex several months ago and it only depreciated about ten percent. No other watches and watch companies can compare to that. And in ten years that same Rolex will be at the cost I paid and probably more. Not many things we buy these days do that. They usually end up in the garbage. Fixing that Orient watch, or servicing it, isn't worth the cost it will get tossed out.

I'm planning on buying the Orient Ray Raven II and this doesn't put me off one bit. The F6922 movement is a huge improvement on these new Ray series. This should NOT put you off. Orient is the best bang for buck brand on the market in this price range. These are excellent watches regardless of where the case is manufactured. "Japan Mevement" and "Made in Japan" are two different things. If you need a Orient completely assembled at home, I mean a true "Made in Japan" of their internal market, you should check the engraving in the back and "Japan" or "Japan BK" and similars at 6. I got two of my 4 Orient with these feautures, but all of them work well. Also remember: sometimes "Swiss Made" lies more than "Japan Mov't", because only 50-80% of the watch is actually made in Switzerland :)

I recently got the Orient kamasu (mako/Ray 3). I got the Japanese domestic version in redx uses the same movement as in the mako 2 or Ray 2. But every part I've been told. At least main part is made or finished in Japan and the quality is amazing plus the fact I can change the days from English to Japanese kanji makes it look amazing with the beautiful red sunburst Dail. I got it of ebay for around 260 dollars. The seller agreed to ship as a 35 dollar gift so no tax. Compared to the non jdm orients it seems the bezel is more lined up but I did ask the seller to check. And got some reason my watch it may be a second slow or fast during the day but at the same time every night it's exactly the same plus or minus one second kind of crazy. But if I see its a second fast I rest it on its side when I sleep and if its a second slow I put it flat if I do this then then it's only out a second or so or bang on. Back says made in Japan, I never got Orient before as no sapphire. Not sure if jdm are regulated better. The only downside to the kamasu is the movement holder is now plastic. But that's it. I would recommend the Orient kamasu jdm to anyone as best bang for buck. But Chinese quality can be amazing I have made watches with seagull eta clones that are much more accurate than some of my eta movement watches. Most Swiss brands buy cases from China. Swiss made only means 60percent of the cost is Swiss so movement and labour. Made In Japan has a much more stricter definition. Swiss made means nothing these says unless your spending big bucks. And a lot of seikos movements are not even made in Japan. Not sure how they get away with marketing it as a japanese movement. Orient is seiko Epson and seiko watches are a Co oetely different company. The only thing I can tell is that either seiko let's Orient use their shock system (or the patent is run out). And that seiko supply Orient with the same lume or at least they are almost the same.
@robc8468
@robc8468 3 года назад
The Chinese are also making plenty of cases for the Swiss also a Swiss Made label on the watch requires only 60% of the value of the watch be made in Switzerland. The Chinese are actually very good at making watch cases, dials. and bands. I would be upset if the movement was Chinese and case was made in Japan.

Got all three for less than $500; yet, they are scratch free and I wear my Ray2 to work daily in some of the harshest conditions possible or imaginable. I love this brand’s designs and movements. I will only collect Orients; though I’m a fan of the Grand Seiko’s movements, and would like to own one-I have yet to settle on a case design. My “grail” watch would be a PP but I really love Royal Orients, I am not able to find the style I enjoy, seeing they’ve been discontinued.

I think years ago, they make 100% made in Japan orient watch. Looks like they wanted to level up their affordable watch. Giving more value without dramatically affecting the price. My orient ray 2 doesn't have made in Japan printed on it instead it just says Japan movement then my other orient quartz that I bought from Japan has made in Japan printed on the back. So I guess the clue is when it claims to be made in Japan then it's probably 100% made there. And btw, my new orient now says epson on the back instead of orient watch co ltd.

MagicRising I highly doubt it. This is in their higher range, ISO rated, and the case design is highly touted by them. I'm not 100% sure, but don't think so. Seiko does the same thing on many versions.

Jakenova I actually opened one of those. I didn't have the marking. I thought it was BS until I opened this one. No matter to me honestly. So many watch cases are produced wonderfully in China.

Chinese/Malaysian casing does not affect Orient's quality at all. They have their own q/c standards for their mechanical watches.

I agree, if you read through comments, this about everyone "at the time" thinking Orient was 100% in house. Hilarious, someone must have posted this old video somewhere. Getting lots of hits for almost 2 years old. Cheers

Aron Dunlap I nearly forgot to say same goes for Seiko's. People usually prefer "j" versions, though quality of case and movement is almost the same in j and k versions.

Lots of Chinese parts Swiss too. The Chinese ship Billions of dollars/year in watch components to Switzerland too. I doubt they are just burying them. Plus the loop holes in content rules are more then just percents. There are tricks to make a overseas parts higher local content, then you can increase local content number.

I havr to say that even though the case is chinese, still the quality control of orient is excellent!!! I have a bambino small seconds and though its a dress watch i ended up putting it in a engineer bracelet and i put it through hell and works better thank some of the watches that have coste me over 1000 bucks. True value for your money!!

Hey aron, I need your help please! I dropped my orient (cal F6T22, very similar to this one) from a short distance, and it's working just fine but I noticed a loose piece (because it's open heart and it has a display case back). The piece is easily discernible in your video - this is the one I'm referring to: imgur.com/a/gvMKjfZ. The watch works fine and it seems it just need the tiny screw to be tightened.. I don't know.. do you know what's that piece for? Should I be worried?

The case is just a hunk of steel. It was designed by Orient and commissioned to the Chinese to fabricate them cheaply. The movement is what matters. This allows people like me to be able to afford a luxury quality time piece for a fraction of the cost. Imho

Most watches have Chinese in them some place or even all Chinese. No bad thing if the QC is 100. Look at new cars..chinese parts I bet you. Doesn't matter to me. I've got one love it! accurate beautiful dial no bezel problems and accurate . Isnt that the point of spending our hard earned cash. If it works well looks good and is reliable...then it's a steal. I'm LMAO at the state of the lettering on the inside of the case. It looks like it's been painted by a drunk with a yard broom. It kinda illustrates the difference between the pride of the artisan and those who don't give a crap. You would think if you could be arsed enough to put such a notice inside a watch, you would at least do a decent job, laser-etched or something. Not a good look on an Orient.1:53

Hey, guys! For those of you who have the F69 Orients, please tell me how these movements are keeping decent time after years of wearing. I'm between buying a Seiko 5 SNZG 15 with a 7s36, and a Bambino with a hacking and handwinding movement. I know the Seiko does great in time, just like my Mako I, but the newer 4r36 as far as two colleagues of mine say, kind of falls behind 30 secs per day after some years of use. Any such experiences with the newer Orient movements?

Got no luck with it, i ddi put on my right hands so in days i was hitting a wall ahrd with it... so swapped to the other hand,, miracously the cristal has not a single scratch. I have not removed the stem on one of these. Generally there is a small hole in the movement plate either above or below where the stem shaft goes into the movement. Using a toothpick or pin tool will allow you to depress the release and remove the crown and stem.

I feel the Orient watch is very lovely and also good performance watch. The Japanese own movement inside. Very low cost mechanical. No surprise to use China made case for a cost. Good or bad, in these days, most of goods are made in China. If we want to buy 100% Japan made, we need to pay bit more!

It's a shame you didn't show us how to adjust the movement while you were in there. My Ray II runs 17 seconds fast per day, which for me, is unacceptable.
@nunomc2815
@nunomc2815 7 лет назад
leanderian during night, try to leave him "resting" with the crown down and check the accuracy. If the effect is opposite, try with the crown up. Sometimes we regulate this "normal grade" calibers for a good precision in one position and they get worse while on the wrist. COSC amongst other things, demands a stable deviation on several positions. Cheers

This is supposed to be shocking? Really? The movement is made in Japan in one of Orient's assembly plants, but the case is made in China. Oh the shock and horror that an Automatic watch selling for less than $200 has a Chinese sourced case! NOT! I know of Swiss branded watches that do the same, and they cost a hell of a lot more. What is pleasing about this, is that the movement isn't housed in a plastic surround, which is highly uncommon at this price point!
@OFD
@OFD 7 лет назад
Scott MacKenzie Thanks for watching! It wasn't really that shocking, as I mention in the video, Seiko does the same thing. I used the music and drama opening because there was a lot of forum banter of "completely in-house" at the time with these models. Believe it or not, I've received a ton of hate from some people because they think I faked this video! ! Cheers :)
@scottmackenzie62
@scottmackenzie62 7 лет назад
Well, dramatic music quest aside, I still gave the video a like! Until now, I didn't really know what the new 22 jewel movement in my Blue Ray II looked like! I have a Symphony with the exhibition caseback, so I know how the old non-hacking non-winding 21 jewel movement looks. The new movement is gorgeous, especially when you consider the price point! So thanks for that!

So, the case is made in China? Eh, so what. It still has to pass Orient's QC, which is excellent. Everyone loves Orient for the value their watches provide and THIS is a huge reason as to how they do it. And, they're not the only ones doing it, by far. I just bought a $500 Triton (Neptune these days), and I'd expect exactly the same situation if I were to crack my case open. Still don't care.

Great video Aron.. There tends to be a view if it's Chinese then it's garbage which is way off the mark. There's a lot of good stuff coming out of China to. The majority of seiko are made out with Japan to keep prices down. Lots of the micro brands use Chinese companies to produce their divers and many are great watches.
