I will always remember darwin first and foremost as the only guy who had a power smart enough to realize that the best defense against the hulk is to be somewhere else.
Well, let us face facts. If you had Dwarwin's powers. You too would teleport away from Hulk. As Hulk has the godlike power of pure rage that makes him nearly unkillable. To the point that Hulk did break Time itself.
Anthony Thompson what I never understood about that was how his body adapted a new mutant ability rather than a physical trait which is what I thought his powers were essentially. It begs the question of how far will his body adapt. What powers could he manifest from adapting and also what would his body do in space
Jan Michael Vincent I wouldn’t consider them new mutations tho as his body is always in a flux state and ready to adapt at any point in time but my point is how does it go from adapting to being in water/darkness/fire to something as ambiguous as teleportation. Like where does his powers stop. Would his brain adapt to being attacked by a telepath then if need be and give him in turn partial telepathy? Get what I’m saying
If I had Super powers, I would use them for the most trivial of the things Reality warping: creating a bag of chips Telekinesis: getting a bag of chips with my mind Flight: getting a bag of chips Super strength: getting and carrying as many bags of chips as I can.
X-Men 1st class killed him off... I guess having the literal power to survive anything doesn't trump being a black guy in a movie... ur going to die no matter what
In my opinion, he was one of the best mutants I've seen on the Big Screen like his overall power intrigued me. It was a shame they killed him off in First Class.
i agree because he's unique. not like the normal elemental powers like iceman or pyro and boring powers that every superhero studio has like super strength, super speed or magic. he's a one of a kind mutant that has active evolution
He can adapt to almost anything but this does not mean he cant be killed or that he can adapt to defeat anything. Hulk proved that when WWH was fighting the Xmen. His body adapted for the best survival option, giving him teleportation and getting him the Hell out of there. When your genes that adapt to anything tell you the best way to survive is run, you know there is a problem.
Theres Environmental Adaptation and Physical Adaptation. Darwin is more environmental than Physical. In theory, he could become the perfect Mutant with 0 weakness if you push his power to the limit. Hulk clearly was superior so his body gave him a new ability. If you stress test all abilities he could potentially develop all powers
In evolution you have two major factors, environmental selection "survival of the fittest", and sexual selection, "do you get to reproduce".. too bad X-man Darwin didn't get a body that adapted for both; morphing to protect him from danger, but also morphing to be optimally attractive to people he interacted with, or found attractive. That would make for some interesting interactions.
@Templar, Yeah, Rob, do a series like Beyond Omega Level, but instead have it be about comic characters who can give themselves massive cocks. Plastic man (you know he would), Mr. Fantastic, Hulk (the angrier he gets), etc.
No joke, I think you hit on something massively interesting there. What would that person be like? Would they struggle with their identity? How do you have one when your physical features are constantly changing against your will? What would your self esteem be like? Would you be super confident all the time? Or would you be terrified of intimacy since you could never live up to peoples expectations of you? How would you feel being a poster for everyone’s sexual preferences? Would you question your sexuality constantly? Would a lack of agency in what you want your body to look like cause severe issues psychologically? And that’s before getting to your relationship with your family. God this is such an interesting concept. Do something with this man. Please.
But his power isn't that kind of "evolution". His power doesn't target reproduction, it simply makes him adapt and survive to anything. He could have been called Play-Doh as well, but Darwin is more fitting.
@aLfPlaysGames: Please state anywhere in the XCU, which is not the same as the Earth 616 comics, that he can do that and by the fact that he does not appear in any movie after that (There is 11 X-men movies; X-men 6, Deadpool 2, and Wolverine 3). If you can show me something from any of the moves or from the writer/directors then I'll believe you. Until further evidence, Darwin is dead.
Please do continue the X-Men Timeline, it would be great to have a more clear timeline explained by someone who actually knows what they are talking about and can give context to the stories
Darwin is one of my favorite mutants! he's practically living life on hacks, being able to adapt to any situation. But this story is amazing to be able to inject that emotional, humanizing side to it. That trait is what I think has made X-Men so popular as long as it has.
Same! Although I just finished the video and I'm a bit disappointed, he didn't even go into World War Hulk! That's when Darwin really shows off his stuff :)
They kill Darwin in first class... They killed Will.I.Am's character in origins... Bishop has shit maybe a minute of screen time... N Storm is sprinkled a lil bit throughout them movies... Yea... Plus i dont remember any latino characters... Maybe the butterfly chick in first class idk
Yes. Loved Deadly Genesis. Loved Origin of Darwin. Please continue Vulcan and Darwin stories. Did Vulcan meet his father? Was Darwin upset like Vulcan? Did they manifest secondary powers? Where are the Summers girls? Etc, etc. Thankfully DTN.
I remeber that but i believe pushed to the a brink would it evolve him to pass omega lvl in theory lets say he cant escape from a adamtium infused walls in teleportation dampening building
refering to the reasons wouldnt earth be destroyed i thought doomsday was a planetary jumper the likes of galactus n brainiacthat they destoy all life n planet
Rob, I've been watching your channel for a long time now and I would really love it if you did a video on the full history of Mortimer Toynbee the "Toad"!
Darwin has been one of my all time favorite Marvel characters. It feels like almost yesterday that I was freaking pissed how they handled him in the First Class movie. Sure its still my favorite Xmen movie, but I'll never forget.
You're covering the Xmen, Hallelujah!!! BTW Darwin is way Overpowered but I hated the way he was mishandled in Xmen: First Class it was a good movie but Bailey should've gotten the role he played (still his origin is pretty good, kind of cliche but good nonetheless. oh ROB could you cover the entirety of The Dark Phoenix Saga It's a classic and I would love to see your veiws on it
Yes Rob, please continue this series! Everyone deserves to know these great stories only a few people know and read about; Messiah Complex, Second Coming, Schism, AVX, and All New X-men and Uncanny X-men.
AFlyingModem Not really...Martian Manhunter's entire family and planet died before his eyes I think that is sadder than the usually My-Mom-Hates-Me story...not to downplay Darwin but yeah
JiraiyaTV that's a different kind of trauma though, and it's not as simple as my mom hates me, darwins mom not only hates him but blames him for his father leaving, and insoitenof her mistreatment of Darwin he loves her still, he doesn't lash out at her out of anger, he just understands why his mother hates him, he accepts that and just wants I see her smile, to the point he tries to kill himself thinking that will make everyone life around him better including his mothers, that's some tragic shit, it's not like the Martian man hunter wife turned evil killed their kids than went on to destroy his planet and everyone on it, and he was the sole survivor it's just not as personal as darwins story imo
AFlyingModem indeed his story and life is so tragic, not only that but even after his mother did all those things to him, rejected and even abandon him he still loves her.
I'm interested. Gratz on that voice change, really working for me. I used to watch your videos so I can fall asleep listening to comics i like. Now, I can listen to them without passing out.
Rob you should definitely do updated chronological X-Men vids. A lot of fans/readers are lost on the current status of X-Men and their latest adventures. It would help TREMENDOUSLY and as your vids are fantastically done, it would clear up the fog, so to speak. So do us all a favor and go for it!!! ;)
This guy is actually pretty interesting. Since he can change his own physiology, wouldn't that mean he could in theory copy the mutant powers of anybody by evolving his own mutant strain? The only thing stopping this guy from basically becoming Mr M is the fact that he can't control his ability, but if he could, wouldn't that make him beyond Omega-level? Whats stopping him from developing the powers of say, superman? An organ that shields him from telepaths? The possibilites are endless. Like i said, really interesting to think about.
I hope you do that chronological X-men videos! They are really good here so far! And if you have been, you should definitely make a playlist with them all set up to watch!
I'll watch. Love your stuff man. My first job was in Monterey in 86(I think) at a little comic shop. I worked for comics. I can't keep up with all the comic stuff anymore but you bring me back to those days.
Looking forward to the X-men Playlist!! I read the X-men from beginning through 1993, including all spin-offs, crossovers, and guest appearances... then I stopped... Your playlist does not stat where I stopped... but it will be VERY helpful to bring me to now... WHOO-HOOO!!! I have been so waiting for this!!!!! Question- Wasn't there a Darwin in the Old Alpha Flight??
So I'm curious what if you tried to shoot Darwin or attempt to break his neck without him seeing you.....not saying i want him to die but would his powers activate or nah?
Another great video. I would enjoy a chronological series on the xmen. I like the way you consolidate the stories for us. My two cents, I'd love to see a series on a bunch of marvel what if issues. One of my favorite was marvel ruins.
I'd like more X-Men stuff in order like you're doing with green lantern. One of the reasons I stopped reading comics when I was younger was that it felt like I'd go to the comics shelf at the grocery store and I'd be missing an event or something.
Awesome video! And yes! You should totally make an X-Men playlist! In chronological order (as chronological as you can get, considering all the time hopping & retcons)!
