Ahh, if I could only justify a new pedal, it sounds great, but is it different enough then all the others I already have and can't fit on a board? maybe, or is it just the player, Pete makes em all sound good, I know I can make just about any pedal sound as good as it could be.

You really know how to dial in pedals. What I like about this pedal is that rather than thinking of it as a standard drive pedal with a signature sound, it feels to me like a very natural extension of the amp that you're playing through. A lot of people would NEVER dial in a dry sound on their drive, figuring "WHy would I do that? I want gain!" But this pedal really interacts with the amp, and you're right Pete, when you dialed in the dry signal it didn't sound separate, it was all one sound. I dig it!

On the adaptive tech - why would you ever turn it off?

You always come up with some wicked melodies and riffs. Fabulous highlights of this clever pedal. I liked the Strat-tones in particular. I use a Klon(e) pedal often on a strat neck pickup. I could use a adaptive mode though as things can get too warm and subdued with this type of pedal.

We truly live in a golden era of guitar effects. The technology has advanced at warp speed since the day of the classic players of the 60's. Some folks would say this distortion pedal sounds just like that distortion pedal and wouldn't and probably couldn't hear the difference in a crowded bar or venue especially after a few drinks. But as a player and a artists a person can tell and he will not only hear but feel the difference which will not only change the way he or she will play but change thier inspiration not only by writing a song that will come from the muse but also the connection of the artist with the instrument they are playing. That will come through to the audience! But lets face it a lot of us still like new equipment because we have to satisfy our Gear Aquirement Syndrome.

The pedal seems more useful than a Klon. The adaptive circuit operates like a treble bleed circuit. Adding in a mix knob is also a great tweak. Many people were bagging on Origin Effects a couple years ago about a trademark dispute over a name, but Simon & his team make great pedals. As always, your playing is great.

In doing research for this pedal ive found so many players diming the gain on the Klon or like pedals. Great demo and song ! love the way it just dissonantly ends.

I was noodling around on my guitar this afternoon, getting some pretty good sounds, and notes, etc., and then I watched Pete. I realize that I play the guitar because I like to, and that awesome players like Pete are just simply on another level. Outstanding, Mr. Thorne, great demo of the capabilities of the pedal and what melodic lead really sounds like. Also, of the Pete Thorne Suhr model guitars, I like the red one the best.

As I've heard Josh Scott from JHS describe it, the drive control on a Klon *is* a blend control of sorts, blending in the diode clipping. But maybe this one is blending in the clean signal prior to any of the volume boost or the mid EQ? Anyway, great demo, I'd just seen this in a Sweetwater video shootout of Klon clones, but it didn't go in-depth at all. Still don't own any Origin pedals, but they make awesome stuff. BTW, since I've had to work the last several weekends and missed your livestream Sunday show, here's my livestream question. How do you keep your studio looking so neat and clean for your videos? Try as I might, mine's always a mess!

4tus Gretsch falcon cleans up great with volume roll off even on high gain channels, I've never heard it done as well. Seems like this pedal gives a solid body guitar that same capability.

Lovely demo Pete! I am sure others have already commented, but Halcyon is Greek for a mystical bird that could calm the rough wind and waves. It's also a type of Kingfisher bird, hence Halcyon days of summer when the kingfisher can be seen on riverbanks and the days are calm. I guess it calms a raucous guitar tone!

Is this a peddle you are going to add to your peddle board? Is it worth changing out your current peddle? If you are going to use would you use it to be a Klon or use it different and use the added modified sound? Thanks for the info.

Whe you design these pedals what amps/speakers do you test them with? Do you use IRs as well knowing some with put them in front of a modeler like the Tonex etc.?
@OriginEffectsUK
@OriginEffectsUK Год назад
We test them with all sorts (including measuring equipment). Our office is stocked with a load of amps, including but not limited to, Pro Reverb, Deluxe Reverb, Showman, JTM45, 2204, Dual Rec, 5E3, Magnatone, Princetons... The list goes on. Our pedals get tested with any number of these along with testing into our amp-recreation pedals. Generally listen testing is done it 2 places. At the office we run into cabs. For the combos that's often their own speaker, but we often run out into loads and out to 4x12s. We have cabs loaded with greenbacks, creambacks, EV-M12Ls (80s ones). At home our product manager runs into IRs. We don't generally test with modellers as a matter of practice, as we've tended to find that they respond how we expect providing it sounds good into everthing else we use.
