At the beginning, the Dixie Chicks were four. At some point the band broke up, losing Robin Lynn Macy and Laura Lynch, and became a three-member band with Martie and Emily and Natalie Maines.
In the early 1990s the Dixie Chicks, four "big hair" musicians from Dallas, came to Winfield, Kansas, for the annual (third week in September) Walnut Valley Festival.
They were, of course, a big hit at the two or three (?) Winfield festivals where they performed. After their shows they would sell their CD albums and T-shirts at a table set up near the main stage. I bought a T-shirt proclaiming:
"Dixie Chicks:
The Rooster Crows,
But the Hen Delivers".
This is an excellent version of this great song, because not only are the four original Dixie Chicks there, there's also Mark O'Connor and Jerry Douglas, and three other musicians that unfortunately I don't recognize.
Videos of Laura Lynch singing seem to be rather rare, so this is a special treat and hopefully it will stay available. I am posting it here because it seems to be hard to find where it used to be found.
I'm not sure of the recording date, but I'd guess between 1991 and 1993.
