This was recorded at the Q107 Toronto Rock Awards at Superstars in Brampton, Ont. on Dec 5, 1990. I was fortunate to be the recording engineer. It was multi-tracked on 24 track analog in the Comfort Sound mobile truck and I mixed it back at our studio over a three day period during the week following the show. It aired on CBC on Dec 11. Lee Aaron, Gowan, Blue Rodeo and The Phantoms were also on the show.
Hi Doug: I was a huge Max Webster fan after seeing them open for Rush in 78 at the Ottawa Civic Center. I saw them another 5 times after that. I even saw one of Kim’s very first solo gigs after MW broke up, New Years Eve 81 I think at Hoopers in Ottawa. I was super stoked for the reunion as the Phantoms went on right before Max and when we came offstage they had cleared everybody except Max and us from the dressing room. I think National Velvet played that night too as I recall drinking all night with Maria Del Mar

I was at the show and have a tape of the two Max songs aired on the CBC broadcast which was an excellent Max played 4 songs at the show, how do we get a tape of the other songs or whole show? Too bad Rush who were there did not join Max for Battlescar as a grand finale instead of a riot.
Wonderful! I love "The Party". MW were the best band to come out of Canada ever. And I mean ever. One of the most underrated, with some of the wittiest and most intelligent songs. I saw them support Rush on their European "Hemispheres" tour in 1979 and sat there listening with my eyes and ears wide wide open.
Brings back great memories....seeing Max open for Rush numerous times @ MLG in the 70’s. Best Max performance I saw was a headline show @ Massey Hall 1977. Maybe most under rated band Canada ever produced.
Sutton High School - 1979. Live Magnetic Air was just out. Helluva concert. We came outta the school after the show and Q-107 radio was blasting Paradise Skies as we got in the car. 36 yrs. ago - still remember it like it was yesterday.
If t his was the reunion at LULUS in Kitchener, i was there and it was the BEST!!!! It was UNBELIEVABLE!! I was there with a bunch a friends on New Years EVE. LOVE LIVE MAX
One dude said Mississauga, one dude said Kitchener. Gotta get hold of Kim to find out, assuming he'll take my call. It's killing me. Max/ Kim popped my virginity rock and roll flavour of music genre. It's a lifestyle. It can make you be that person still after listening to rock music for the first time at age maybe 8 in 1973 when 640AM Toronto was a rock radio station on a small transistor state of the art radio, 6 inches by 3 inches. Now I use a $1000 cell phone. LOL!
Small world here on the Internetz, Sally -- I was turned on to Max Webster by a buddy (a fellow Bethlum boy) who went to that very gig & bought the LP -- which he then played for me, much to my liking! I thought: these guys are f'ing amazing, in many ways like Zappa. Then (like you) for 30 years or so I didn't hear a note of theirs; then a few years ago rediscovered them here on YT. Their music stands up very well, and I appreciate it in a whole new way in my creeping senility. BTW, I seem to recall a grand department store in A-town called Hess's, used to have lunch there back in prehistoric times; met Sophia Loren there when she was promoting her perfume... Cheers!
It's been 4ever since I last experienced the Max Machine at its finest. Back in the day, if u were down with the Max, u were down with The Party here among the cats from the streets to paradise skies. So why let go the line when you can simply come off the moon? Give it up for Kim, Terry and the boys. Big up, Bigben!
Man, I wish Kim and the boys would go back on the road together! They were one of the first bands I saw in concert. I believe that was in Trenton. Kim was wearing a pink tuttu! Max will live on forever on RU-vid!
I so wished they would do it again!!!! Great Classic Canadian Rock. This is one of the bands that got me into my occupation. Making the World a louder Place. LOL
WOW! The single best live Max vid I've ever seen/heard! Is the full show available on DVD? Max was the first band I ever saw live, opening for Rush at the Fargo Civic Center on May 5(6?) 1977 - KM ran out on stage in a huge pink felt cowboy hat with his Strat seemingly grafted to his hip, and I just stood there with my jaw hanging. They debuted tunes from "High Class," which came out a couple months later. I gotta see these guys live again! Rock WILL rise again from the retro-90s muck!!
I talked to their Roadie at the Gasworks and told him I saw them at the Knob Hill in 1973. He said that was their first gig as Max Webster. So there. Bumped into Terry Watkinson on the subway. Seemed depressed. Asked him " are you making any money? :He relied "I wouldn't be riding the subway if I was."

Amazing performance - does justice to the original and then some. I only saw Max (or Mitchell) once, opening for Rush in 1977, and they just cooked...pretty much just like this. Is there a DVD of this show? I'd kill or die to get one. Failing that, please upload more tunes from it! Moremoremore! And somebody tell Mr. M. to grow his hair back! Kim Mitchell without the hair is like Elton without the glasses or Trower without the lemon-eating pucker. 8^]
I am sure a million people have said they were at this reunion show in a small venue. But I know I was there. Now I remember why I thought you were the best band in the world when I saw you at 13 the rest of world just didn't know it yet!
Awesome. I saw. Max Machine with Rush at the Montreal Forum for $3.99.. I caught them a few times. I actually saw them opening for Peter Gabriel too. Fantastic double bill..
The bar was called (I believe) Intex. I think it's an Indian restaurant now. I was was there too. I think Rik Emmett opened the show with a killer version of his song Drive Time. What I thought was very cool was after Max finished their set, the crowd wanted more, chanting "WE WANT MAX" for about 15 minutes, delaying the awards part of things.It was awesome!
I saw Max/Kim sell out MLG in Toronto in 1978...I was 13. Seen him a million times. Actually sat and had drinks with him. Loyal to a fault to his fans. My days of drinking and passing out are long gone. I may have seen this show but I can't recall. When and where was the venue? I'll keep checking the same video and comment section if you have time to reply. Thanks.
Kim did a Canadian tour with his band and they did a full Max set and it was so great! This was around 2001 I think ,but Kim still had it and his voice was spot on! He's slipped a bit in the last couple years but his band is still rockin' it out! But he's a rock'n roll legend and a Canadian treasure!
Was at this show in deepest Mississagua. Seb Bach glared at me on the way in for not wearing a leather jacket I think. It was the day of the Joe Carter, Roberto Alomar trade to the Blue Jays F.Y.I. National Velvet was good this night, but everyone was their to see Max.
General f.y.i. for international fans KIM MITCHELL has had success with his own band. Look up his solo stuff fer sure. Start with "All We Are". Bone rattling earth shattering stuff. I don't want to oversell it but, trust me.

Not quite a true reunion. Gary McCracken on drums, I believe. He joined them on the 2nd album. He didn't take a bow with them at the end. Maybe it was a hired gun?
When will people realize these guys kicked ass? I guess you really got to have a taste for Kim Mitchell's crazy lyrics, love his guitar playing though 2:18
