I took delivery of a '65 Mustang with a 289 cid, 4 barrel carb., 4 speed manual transmission on Sept. 22, 1964. Because of it's performance, I thought Ford had put the 271 horsepower motor in it by mistake. I street raced at every chance I got. That was stupid, but I had a lot of great times!

By the way Jay Leno, I am that guy you were always looking for, but could never find. That knew the man that murdered Henry Ford. Those guys were likely on the "original crew" Which was hand picked by me to watch the owner of Ford Automotive Company, who threaten to murder Shelby if the 9 month old baby didn't build the 500th Shelby GT500. Henry Ford was the only man that built the 98i the Mustang G.T. and the Shelby G.T., I can't remember if it was signed GT or G.T., but the Shelby Mustang GT500, named Eleanor was the one I built to save Shelby Fords life the night Henry Ford was murdered, by the man that took Henry Ford's garage and turned it into the Ford Automotive Company. The original owner of Ford Automotive Company was the one that murdered Henry Ford, I was the one that was Henry Ford's friend and I was the one that built the Shelby Mustang GT500 named Eleanor. Henry Ford was Murdered because the man that murdered him watch the 499th Shelby lift off the ground and fly, because it was the tiniest bit under weight and flew. I put the wheels on the 499th, that was already hand painted by Henry, and was told the wheels came off when Henry rolled the car. But there was no damage to the car and only the wheels were unscrewed, and taken off. Henry Ford literally got murder for his garage and for literally flying the underweight Shelby he built, that I believe did not have the paint on yet for the 499th made designation. That is why I can't remember if the Shelby was designated G.T. or GT, because I never saw the ones already sold. I know I designated the one I made from having watched Henry Ford build all of the other ones by hand myself, the Shelby Mustang GT500 (Eleanor) named Eleanor for the new wife of Henry Ford. To later in life let Shelby know who Henry Ford's wife was. The reason for it being the Shelby Mustang GT500 was because I found the only Mustang emblem in his garage left over from the previous years model, and I slapped it on the flat grey unpainted knock off Shelby, making it the only hand built by me, Shelby Mustang GT500 Eleanor. It is a one of a kind car. Because it is literally, the only car I ever built, and I only built it to save baby Shelby Ford's life, and I swore never to build another car again. The car I did the casino building to casino building jump in, in 1967 was built by my dad for me to do the jump in a flying car. All I did was slight adjust the one he built. He really wanted to build me those 9 cars on the 48th floor, because he wanted to reverse enigineer other mechanics machines, to figure out how they worked. He never got to watch Henry Ford build a car though, like I did.
@CalamitousJonathan
@CalamitousJonathan 2 года назад
I believe the reason it was the tiniest bit under weight, was because the designation of G.T. 499 was not yet painted on, because he was super excited to show a new guy his newest Grand Turismo winning car. The man that wanted to steal Henry Ford's garage, and claimed to me, to have been Henry Ford's friend.... But I had only seen him once before in my life, and he was inquiring about purchasing Henry Ford's garage. I spent a lot of time with Henry Ford in those days. come to think of it, I think I recall the 498th having had G.T. 498 painted on it. Because there were 2 of them in the garage still, the other ones were already sold. Henry took the wrong one out that night. Flew it, and died for having the worlds fastest flying car and because some guy wanted to steal his garage, to make his own company out of it. Which became.... Dun dun dun dun.... Ford Automotive Company..... The owner was the man that murdered Henry Ford for his garage, and threaten me, telling me if I didn't get to Henry's Garage immediately, he was going to murder 9 month old Shelby. I stole a train that night and got there as fast as the the train could go, because I just put full throttle to the train engine and almost came off the tracks in the turns. The train engine kept tipping to one side in every curve or turn. I convinced that man, whose name I never learned, that the Shelby Mustang GT500 I built was built by 9 month old Shelby Ford, because he wasn't in the garage, except one time, when I convinced baby Shelby to put one piece on the car that he watched me put on several times, until he could put it on himself. Then I called that man in to watch Shelby put on that one piece. I made sure, Shelby always had privacy, because that is how Shelby worked, just like his dad... With only me and him in the garage. Except after Shelby was born. Then it was the three of us.

Great looking car but how did they let that left headlight trim bezel go out the door like that?
@bbb462cid
@bbb462cid 4 года назад
Don't take this the wrong way but I think you're unfamiliar with the fit and finish of cars in that era. Slight misalignments were notoriously common. In fact, on some muscle cars, notably Mopars, the _lack_ of certain body panel misalignments is a sign that the car was incorrectly restored or was repaired after a collision.
@h2oskiaddict
@h2oskiaddict 4 года назад
@@bbb462cid I hear what you're saying, but having owned several 65/66 Mustangs, there's plenty of adjustment in the headlight bezel rings to correct this. Stuff like fender door gap was always kind of hit and miss from the factory for sure.

To be fair, the SCCA designed the GT350 more than Carroll Shelby did. Ford wanted to go sportscar racing in 1965 (Lee Iacocca in particular) and they tried to shove the Mustang on to the SCCA but the SCCA were having none of it. Quite correctly they told Ford the Mustang was NOT a sportscar and to go away because they were dreaming. Facing this situation, Carroll Shelby went down to his buddies at the SCCA and asked them "What do I need to change on a Mustang before you'll accept it as a sportscar?" And they laid out all the changes which needed to be made. And from there, Shelby American made those changes happen in the form of mass production. Of all the Shelby Mustangs, the 1965 car was the only car which truly adhered to the SCCA's homologation requirements.

Ford can give them their blessing for this, but at the end of the day, it still isn't an original R Model. Hell, I personally know that one of the original 1965 R Models isn't even original. It was re-bodied because it was wrecked so bad, it couldn't be saved. Halfway through the restoration, the owner threw a bunch of parts on the bogus Fastback, made pictures and claimed he found it in the pictured condition. I used to work with my father in the restoration business back in the 1980's. We saw a lot of frauds like that, and I know of more. There's a lot of vintage race cars/drag cars, etc. out there that are not even remotely legit. Sorry for going off on a tangent, lol.

@realMaverickBuckley 4 года назад
@Reaper5.56 Xx It's a piece of piss. When you clutch in just blip the throttle as you change up or down. Completely pointless but old timers had to do it on some if the really old manual transmissions. You don't need to do it on this. Rev matching is when downshifting(changing to a *lower* gear) so as to not unbalance the car. You're normally doing it under braking so you're braking with the ball of you're foot/ toe end of your shoe, you're rock your heel onto the throttle pedal and blip it. As the lad above said there are heaps of videos on that. But what he's doing here is.. kinda pointless(unless you're driving a 1922 Dusy) but very easy

@@realMaverickBuckley Blipping on downshifts is pretty nice and not useless. I like not feeling the kick from the transmission when downshifting. On upshifts? I don't see a point to that, totally useless.

@@realMaverickBuckley I usually rev match when I drive my tribute. I use to drive a semi truck without using the clutch years ago, so when doing that, you had to pop the throttle when its in neutral to get the rpm's up, then you downshift in the next lowest gear. its fun to do.

I love this car for the visceral feel that it is projecting. I grew up in a strong Ford family in Detroit. This car brings back the strong memories I have of that glorious period between 1963 and 1968 when Caroll Shelby and Ford ruled the racing world. I remember seeing pictures and talking to Ford engineers about the Mustang IRS. These guys are not BSing, it is the real deal. I always wished Ford had green lighted the IRS for production or as an option for the Mustang. I owned a 1966 K-Code hardtop. Jay is right the GT350 and engine pulls you into the driving experience. If I have one complaint with this car and it deals with switching out the original solid lifter camshaft for a high lift roller rocker camshaft. I have nothing against the roller rocker. I have one in my 1987 Mustang GT 5-speed Convertible. It does what it supposed to do perfectly in a 87 Mustang but not in a 65 or 66 Shelby GT 350. If you ever owned K code Mustang the beautiful sound of a solid lifter making power at any speed is truly intoxicating. It was part of allure of the 289. I know roller rocker makes more power but who cares. The car is an historical throw back to an era that a few great men got together and made something historical and unforgettable.The manual steering, high pressure plate clutch, un- silenced air cleaner, noisy exhaust and solid lifter cam was the strong allure of the Shelby GT 350 and 289 K-Code engine . I hope the Venice Crew will give the buyer the option to have a solid lifter cam in his GT350. Outside of that the car is perfect in its execution.
