Sorry for any confusion Gail. You can actually use either fpdc or fptr for these cables. Of course the fptr will yield a slightly longer fabric. I unknowingly defaulted to fptr finding it easier and more natural.

Merry Christmas Bonnie! This is one of two projects for after new years! Yep I normally like to have 3 projects. I get so frustrated when working on large projects. My eyes aren't so good! But I do know I'm getting a new daylight lamp for Christmas. Its only thing I've mentioned and I " mentioned " it to EVERYONE! Lol. My third project is random small projects. Lol this is project I bought the cliffs of Moher yarn for. I originally bought three colors. Now Nope so ordering more of this light blue. My cream and bright blue will not be wasted! Lol I've had this book for awhile. I see this sweater and drool. I'm finally brave enough. Until I did the lace blouse and now lace Cape I hadn't made anything fitted other than hats.

BONNIE! I forgot the most important part! I'm scared of the size! I wear 14-16. But I've bought 18 to go over my shoulders! Now I sew well! 18 s were terrible. Total redo. I have broad, very square shoulders. I couldn't have just one. Is it obvious how I adjust the shoulders? It was on the lace sweater.

@@elizabethalexander-pukerud7951 both of these designs are very different in construction. A lot depends upon your gauge, but you can also double/triple check by comparing your sweater sections to another sweater or jacket that fits you well. Th Orlaith Robe Sweater tends to be much roomier. Do be careful to check out the errata on this design. The publisher sabotaged me when they took it to print in the first edition. Definitely follow the video. The only exception is that I used fptr in the video when I should have used fpdc for the cables. Both work, but I defaulted to fptr without thinking. If I follow the number of rows suggested for the back, my sweater measurements would be 21.5 inches, instead of 20.5 inches (measuring from the bottom of the ribbing to the top. I noticed that in the book it calls for fpdc in the 4 stitch post cable as well as the wheat cable. It is also a note that is included that this is fpdc not fptc , but your video is treble. And you do correct yourself to say treble. Which should I be using?
@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 2 года назад
You can use either. The fpdc is what I originally used in 2013 when writing these designs and this works fine. I automatically defaulted to fptr when making the videos 7-8 years later, which also works. The larger stitch will be a bit looser, but easier to crochet. You may want to make a small swatch of each and see which you prefer. Sorry for any confusion!

Bonnie, my daughter just bought me your book for Mother's Day with the ulterior motive of me making her this sweater. :-) I felt a little overwhelmed at first trying to read the pattern but then I found this video and can easily follow your instruction. Question though, in the video, for the cabling rows, you say to do front post treble crochets and the book says front post double crochets. No correction mentioned in the errata. Which is correct? Thank you for the book and especially for the video.
@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 2 года назад
Great question. You can use either one. Both are correct and will work. When recording these videos I automatically defaulted to what I have been doing (using fptr instead of fpdc) for this design, but it too works. If I was going to do these videos again I would use fpdcs to alleviate any confusion here.

Bonnie, sorry but the pattern book I have said row 10 is fpdc but you are doing fptr. Do we do fptr?
@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 4 года назад
It can actually be done either way Lynn, and I prefer to use fptr when crossing the cables. Many edits were made by the publisher that I didn't like, which is one reason why I made these videos. I would encourage you to follow the videos where they differ from the book. Also, be sure to download a copy of the errata listing for this pattern available here: bonniebaycrochet.squarespace.com/blog/2016/11/16/errata-for-celtic-cable-crochet.html

Hi Bonnie 👋 , I was wondering do you know what size the girl in the photo is wearing? I was thinking it looks a little big on her so I was thinking the size she's wearing might just fit me perfectly I'm a size large so I didn't know what size I should make .

Oh just a quick question in your book you call for front post double on Rows 10 and 11, put on the video you’re showing front treble Thank you I don’t wanna go any further to know which is right thank you so much

Yes, I automatically defaulted to fptr (pattern was written several years ago). Either will work for this design (and each sweater fits fine regardless of which you choose), but if I could redo these videos I would have stuck with fpdc. Sorry for any confusion.

Great question Patricia. Either will work. I unknowingly defaulted to using fptr in the videos but wished I had used fpdc as in the book. Again, either will work.

Bonnie, love your work and have made several of your patterns from your books. So book say cable are fp double cables, your video is showing us fp treble cables. Which should it be?

Great question! Either will work, but I would use fpdc if I could redo these videos. I automatically defaulted to using fort when recording. Sorry for the confusion!

Sorry have another question. I don't like the yarn I chose so will breakdown and order the Paintbox acrylic. Wool doesn't do well in Florida LOL, but could you please tell me what color you are using in the video? Thanks
@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 4 года назад
I used color #817 in the Cascade Yarns 220 Aran Superwash. Since you are in Florida, I do have a couple of other (mid-range) options to consider: www.berroco.com/yarns/vintage (be sure to get the Aran/worsted weight, and not the DK or bulky) which is an acrylic/wool blend. They also make a cotton/rayon you may wish to consider: www.berroco.com/yarns/berroco-modern-cotton. This will be slightly heavier and may stretch out a bit more, but perhaps more suitable for the Florida climate?

Hi Bonnie - I am a “confident beginner” and would like to tackle this but 2 questions - can you point me to a tutorial for sewing the garment together? I didn’t see in the 3rd video where you actually show sewing. Did I miss it? Also, my husband would like a cable cardigan as well. Do you have a pattern for men?
