Honestly, as a former ride operator. I always told big people that they weren’t allowed to ride. They would cuss me out and berate me but it was for their own safety, no regrets

@deannacolegate4147
@deannacolegate4147 2 года назад
@@Faiith1964 the bars should have come across his body and almost touched the seat horn. With the hydraulic locks there was really no need for a seat belt. The manufacturer can argue that the seat contours acted as first restraint and the bars the second. Now Tyres bars stopped at his stomach not groin like they should have. They left a huge gap at least a foot or two. Enough that he could slip out when almost seven hundred pounds of pressure was forces against the restraint. What I can almost guaranteed happened was there was a double click locking system, Tyre clicked only once leaving the huge gap. Tyre was reported on saying there was play in the restraints. So when the ride went up slowly he was fine. But then it tilted forward dropping him at a high rate of speed on top of those lose restraints. The restraints had just enough play in them that it gave him enough room to slip down and out especially since he was not in the seat contours. Once he exited the restraints went to a proper locking position. This though we won’t know because the ride operators (against all ways I have been trained) opened the ride restraints leaving it impossible to know the position of Tyres restraint upon landing. The ride operator no matter how mad the riders got called a supervisor and had them manually release riders. Calling the supervisor would have given the park time to photograph the seats before release.

I know that no one wants to hurt people's feelings, but if someone is too large for a ride, they should have told them so. That's not "fat-shaming", that's being honest about his safety and it could have saved his life!

@@savants08 I was rejected from riding the Texas Giant at Six Flags, and having to get out of the seat was embarrassing alone, and even more so embarrassing that they had a chicken coupe to watch from if you couldn't ride. And with that lady falling off the ride and dying a few years back, I was more than okay with that. I will most certainly take embarrassment over death any day. All they had to do was be honest with him. As a ride operator, safety should be their absolute #1 concern, period. As a theme park and roller coaster enthusiast, I've been on many drop-tower rides in my life. Every one of them had a safety latch on the harness as a failsafe to prevent riders from falling out of their seats. Why this drop-tower didn't have one is beyond me. Yes, the ride operators should have not let Tyre Sampson ride this attraction; but the manufacturer is equally, if not more, at fault for building and manufacturing a ride with such safety negligence.

Well said Blacktron - many are quickly judging the young employees, but the manufacturer needs to be held accountable for this deadly design flaw and the lack of a seatbelt. The ride should never be able to go up with a harness at that angle. The computer system allowed this yet at that angle people can slip out. Deadly design flaw. They need to be clear when they say it was down and locked, because that never happened in a way to where it would be considered down and locked for useful purposes. With reference to the workers that's all in hindsight their job is to go through their checks their checks says it was locked and that he should have stayed in the ride. How were they supposed to think about him slipping underneath it it's not a common occurrence. I'm 90% sure that they are told if they can lock it the person can ride. I do agree that they should have been trained better but the operators did all that they were supposed to. Most people don't want to see someone fall from 400' + in the air on their shift.

Having worked rides with weight limits It's tricky to tell when someone's telling you the truth and people are very happy to lie to be 60 pounds lighter but they never believe it will happen to them. Workers have no problem telling you can't ride this ride they probably don't want you in their line to begin with. Until you work one of these jobs you won't understand the enjoyment of telling someone they can't ride it because that's one more person in the park that won't be getting in your line again.

As someone who works for Walt Disney World. On the times that I go on rides I always make double sure that the harness. It’s on tightly when I’m on one of these rides. Even when I’ve gone to other theme parks like SeaWorld Universal Studios and Bush Gardens. The people in those theme parks always make double sure. That you are safely secure. I had to rewatch the video several times. And you could clearly see that his harness wasn’t fully secure. Even though the guy in the video said he checked him. It’s very clear that he didn’t check him well enough. It just makes me very sad knowing that he came to Orlando to have fun. And he ended up losing his life. The attendants KNEW he was too big for the ride. According to the police report, he was told he couldn’t ride but kept coming back multiple times with his friends begging (and yelling about it, apparently) to ride. The attendant finally let him ride despite knowing it was risky because of his size. So I’m shocked they didn’t triple check his shoulder harness, unless they were poorly trained and thought it was locked enough. The other employees (who aren’t fired for this incident) need training and to be empowered to throw people out of the park. He was just a kid being a kid, but plenty of adults throw tantrums when they don’t get what they want these days too. Employees shouldn’t be pressured to keep the customer happy at all times when sometimes they have to be told no for safety reasons. And if they keep it up they can be kicked out of the park altogether, but safe and alive. If you yourself or your child is overweight or obese you need to be extra careful about getting on rides. If you’re told you’re too big, while embarrassing, accept it and stay safe. I feel awful for the family and for him. Staff did not manually check harnesses or ignored otherwise they would have easily seen this. I'm confused as to why the patrons weren't manually checked. By the time someone said did u check the left side - it was too late ! The ride was already going up! THEN HE LIED AND SAID YES, I CHECKED… his harness was definitely not in place. Them things be soooo tight, I get on rides like that all the time.. It definitely would NOT have been properly locked - IF THAT RIDE OPERATOE WOULD HAVE JUST CHECKED IT!!!

So apparently they say that’s a way to scare the people riding the ride .. adds more suspense and they say due to covid the ride was design to be touchless that’s why the workers relied on the green lights on the control panel instead of actually checking riders
@lunaoyashii
@lunaoyashii 2 года назад
He wasn't talking about Tyre, he was talking to the trio that he was having a conversation with. It's a joke to scare riders. They say it just as ride starts. He said "Check your left seatbelt. The LEFT seatbelt." It's crazy, because I'm sure Tyre heard him, and panicked. You can tell he was having doubts. He kept glancing around nervously. He _knew_ he was too big to ride and that he didn't fit in the chair properly. However, I totally agree, the operators should have realized that Tyres' harness was significantly higher than the others and checked him again. Or didn't allow him to ride at all. But they're kids who doesn't know how to use their discretion. They only know green light means go, press button. It's a tragedy!

Please don't blame the victim. When you're 14 years old you can't make rational decisions. In his mind he just wanted to have fun. I have been on many theme park rides and I noticed employees double and triple check. It's cleared to me he doesn't fit the ride. I just feel his life could have been saved if the employees took the extra precautions. He shouldn't have been on that ride. Clearly he did not fit. Also most rides have a seatbelt and this should have one especially coming down at 75 miles per hour.
