Firefighting is a critical service in our society. Those who answer the call rely on millions of dollars of equipment and training to save lives, solve problems. They rely on the most important piece of gear: the human body, without it nothing happens. Firefighters are placed under extreme physical demand at all hours of the day/night. Our bodies are pushed to human limits and then asked to do it again and again.
Firefighters have to understand, train and maintain the body for the potential demands of the job. That demand does not change from day 1 to year 30 yet the human body does change over time. Do what it takes to be prepared for them.
Orlando Gomez has been a Portland Firefighter for 16 years and a physical therapist 26 years. He has been able to observe and experience the effects of the high demands firefighting has on the human body, the most important piece of gear on the fire ground. This experience has given him a unique perspective into rehabilitation of fire/police/military.
