Orleans --- Fil @ Wings of Pegasus' musical analysis of Dance With Me and Dancin' in the Moonlight

Fil is a British guitarist who does deep dives into the "musicology" of song structures and performances. In this duo of videos, imported from his "Wings of Pegasus" RU-vid channel, he honors Orleans with analysis and commentary of both Dance With Me (1975 Midnight Special performance) and Dancin' in the Moonlight (2006 live video). He also goes into some band history and our longstanding connection to the latter tune.
Being a guitar teacher, he goes pretty deep down the rabbit hole explaining elements of guitar playing on these songs. Guitar wonks will appreciate it ... other might get lost :-). Through it all, there is an amusing similarity to Eric Idle's (Monty Python) reporter character in the spoof documentary, "The Rutles". (if you've never seen that, it's must viewing for Spinal Tap fans)

Larry Hoppen played with Wells Kelly and his brother Sherman Kelly in a band called Boffalongo. That was in 1969 /1970. I heard them in Ithaca, NY. Loved, and learned to dance to their music...best live band ever. They mutated into King Harvest, then Orleans. I'm 67, and saw them touring last year in Modesto, California. Still the one!

I was lucky enough to see the original band a couple of times. Some of the best concerts I have ever seen, and I went to a zillion concerts back then.

Well that was really in depth. Sadly Fil didn't have a closer look at Larry's fine acoustic intro strumming on Moonlight. Some very jazzy turnarounds! By the way, as 2nd Chord in Moonlight I always hear an Ab/Bb, sometimes an Ab9/Bb as well. It might be Fm7 to Ab/Bb. Anyway thanks for many insights, great Guitar and Vocal performance - bravo Fil!

Saw this band Live about five times, once with Wells Kelly (drummer) before he passed away. This group was so tight both vocals and guitars with John and Larry it was hard to believe it wasn't a recording. Larry's brother Lance (Bass) also has a great unique voice. They are still a Great band even without Wells and Larry both( RIP). but the Original band was HOT and not to mention really down to earth guys. I've talked to them several times. Keep the New band going and God Bless.
