Still discovering this London based perfumery. Admittedly it's been a bit hit and miss so far, but I still have 6 to review. This one is centered around the Champaca flower which is very highly prized in India. :)

Perfumes take on a life of their own depending on whose skin they unfold on , how long they were exposed to any kind of plastic or light and heat . But this is a perfume for lovers of exotic fragrances , be it a walk through a mille-feuille rose garden , or stepping out of the plane in Tahiti and experiencing the scent of the tiare tahiti ( in the gardenia family ) for the first time . The scents just can't be recreated . Champaca ( a tree of the magnolia family ) is a sacred flower in India , and the Polynesians took it with them on their voyages , just like vetiver, white ginger or night blooming jasmine . All these scents are like intoxicating aphrodisiacs . I noticed one wet and smashed champaca flower on the floor of the shower in a Marquesan bathroom , after searching for the origin of the wonderful scent . What is a scent ? A scent evaporates ! Otherwise we might as well just put a drop of essential Champaca flower oil on the skin . I ordered essential oil from Thailand . But it is too intense and too sweet . To me , Ormonde Jayne's Champaca is the best possible solution . Despite keeping a collection of my favourite perfumes in the fridge , I'm on my third bottle Champaca and I do get many compliments . I also have a little tester of Champaca , it does not seem to smell the same as from a bottle . I don't even like the plastic spray mechanisms of today. Perfume can easily be contaminated by coming in contact with plastic , and yes , our skin as well .It was so tempting with the original glass stopper top bottles . Champaca brings me back to the tropical islands , like scents of tiare tahiti , jasmine , the brief scent of an opening Queen of the Night flower ( have you ever smelled that ? ) , or the colourful plumeria , releasing their scents on the soft night's breeze . Peace to all .

Hi, Thank you for your reviews especially of Ormonde Jayne line. Embarassed to find your channel so late. I'm so impressed that you did your research thoroughly and found the right pictures of the Champaca flower. I'm from India and grew up wearing this beautiful flower in my hair, from our own garden. Very curious about this fragrance. Guess I'll try their Discovery set.

Thank you for this review. I completely agree with you. I got my hands on a sample of this juice and I was really excited for it initially. I love the freshness of it and how it opens my senses. Unfortunately, all is lost within an hr. I'm also not entirely sure that I enjoy how it settles on my skin over time. It somewhat changes it's essence... Do you think that the short longevity is attributed to a generous use of naturals in this fragrance? It's a niche creation and I'm making an assumption. I have not done enough research on this brand to confirm my theory. Thank you.

Thanks for this review! I've only tried two Ormonde Jayne fragrances and I love this one much more, want to buy the full bottle! I find OJ Champaca much more beautiful and unique than Ormonde Woman (which went mostly sweet amber floral on my skin with vetiver coming out later, though the empty vial smelled green, woody, spicy so it probably just worked differently with my chemistry). Both of my samples are fresh from LuckyScent so I wonder whether yours might have turned...? Tom Ford's Champaca Absolute was also beautiful, but a bit rougher round the edges (less well-blended) and suffocatingly thick; gave me a headache. OJ Champaca on the other hand, is lighter and just gorgeous white floral and I can see myself wearing it both day and night.

Oh gosh I really need to try the TF Champaca for sure. It's such a beautiful flower. I'm not sure mine had turned as Ormonde Jayne sent me these vials fresh, I just think I have a bit of trouble with the entire feel of their frags. They take a bit of getting used to I think. :)

that's sounds a spring scent. thank you for the review! do you remember i asked u a long time ago about the 'hermes eau des marveille' and you said you have right now 2 samples of it...? so i bought the edt. it's smell wonderful orang amber but after few times it has a very simple scent. :( i still like it but it's not special to me. so if you're interesting i think you should try the edp 'elixire des marveille' :)

Hi!! :) Yes, I still have samples of both of those fragrances so, I will eventually do a review of them, maybe a comparison review. :) Its definintely an interesting scent for sure.

If you like the samsara you would like the allure. I love the samsara much better then the allure. I think the 'allure sensual edp' is way special then the original 'allure'. Did you say you like your perfume to take you to a gerny? Sensual is the one. It has a strang scent at first but later it's so beautiful. The edt is sweeter.

Yes, I have smelled all three of the Allures. I think I like the EDP the most. The Sensuelle one was quite unusual. I need to do a proper test of the EDT vs EDP to decide which one is better. :) Have you smelled Coromandel? wow it's so beautiful!

No i have not try this on, but i do want. I used to dislike the sensual a year ago but now i like it. I don't have it yet. It's so expensive..:(

Chapaca blossom and Champaca incense are very different scents. I was wondering if you thought that "crushed in a muddy puddle" kind of floral scent is possibly perfumes containing floral notes created through enfleurage? I love that packaging!
@ouch110
@ouch110 10 лет назад
I'm not sure, absolutes obtained through enfleurage are usually very rich and full bodied to my nose. The smell I mention is kind of watery...I think what it may be is when certain floral notes are on the turn...or..going bad. Kind of like when citruses turn bad they smell slightly unpleasant.It's very difficult to tell though. hmhphh. haha.

ouch110 I know what you mean about citrus, especially orange, it just goes weird, bitter and rotting. I need to obtain some enfleurage absolutes (where do you even obtain these? I know where to get CO2 extracts and I believe solstice scents does a gardenia enfleurage... though I am not fan of gardenia) and have a whiff, I'm still a general perfume baby ;) Now I'm curious to know what does the muddy puddle effect. Do you think you'll ever review Tom Fords champaca absolute? (I'm going through a champaca obsession, that and also honey/besswax, Mnnnn honey). Sorry for going a bit over board!
@ouch110
@ouch110 10 лет назад
Hehe don't apologize. :) Well there are certain oils that are ONLY obtained through enfleurage. Steam distilling will never produce an absolute so...if you do get one (an absolute oil), you're pretty much guaranteed it's going to be made using the enfleurage method. Just make sure it is a trusted site. If the price is too goo to be true? it probably is. Absolutes. are normally sold in 2mls and upwards. I made the mistake of buying one that wasn't pure and wasted my money. grr. The only Tom Forde scent I have at the moment in sample form is Jasmin Noir, I will be reviewing that at some point. I haven't got his Champaca one...sorry! :)

The only Chanel I had was Chance Eau Tendre, but I finished that before I decided to make a review channel. I REALLY want Exclusifs Coromandel" and also."Coco" AND "Allure" haha. Need to start saving as they are not cheap!!
