Oro Grande California - Still standing on historic Route 66 | An 1850's cemetery

I’ve been through Oro Grande several times on my way to Helendale. I’ve always appreciated that stretch of road.

The mohawk has only been abandoned since 92 or 93. And its destroyed inside. Also the part of route 66 thru oro grande was originally called,river road. I grew up in oro grande,i love oro grande.

That Antique Shop is actually really good. You should go back. It’s still open.

I go through there often to pick up cement at that place behind the tracks @0:11 it does have an old time feel to it. Unfortunately these things will be lost to time one day

When I was a kid we loved taking the mother road between Barstow and Victerville rather than the freeway

Man I lived in victorville in the mid 70s that place was no fun.

It Used to have the pumps just few years ago . That 2nd island was still up also. I love that place. The crossed eyed cow .is the best pizza around!!. They also just did a bunch of work in the bank..

Did you eat at The cross eyed cow ? it has great food .... I drive truck out of Ontario and had the route to Victorville and Barstow for 20 years ...

A few years back they had Ore Grande days - an event they had for 2 years- I produced some good stories about both-- even a tour of the historic cemetery by the honorary mayor of Ore Grande, who lives down the road from the cemetery and much knowledge of it s history. Must not forget Diamond Jim- another character of this town- I will post it when sometime
