A quick review of the Ortlieb Fork Packs based on the 4000 km I did with them on the European Divide Bikepacking Trail this summer.

Very useful. I think i am going to get some of these for my Surly Disc Trucker touring bike, which might be unusual but i don't like big front pannier bags

I think you will like them a lot if you want a smaller pack on your forks.

Do you see any reason why these could not be mounted on a rear rack if the rack has mounts (like the Tumbleweed T-Rack)? Did you find the whole mount and lock mechanism to me very solid and suitable for rough ground?

There should be no problem mounting them on a rear rack. In fact, it is something I have considered as it would be a great, lightweight setup.

Do you think they could damage a carbon fork? Mine has 3 mounts but just concerned. Thanks

The Riverside 920 I used them on has a carbon fork and I han no problems at all!

when the mounts are not designed to carry loads and only meant for watterbottle usage, one should indeed not overload a carbon fork. best to ask the manufacturer. but when yours has already three it presumably is meant to be used with anything style cages and carry some lighter load. so this should be fine.

Unfortunately thieves in our region have discovered the easy removal of bicycle bags too. Backpacks even get stolen when riders are waiting on red light. So keep that in mind.

An unfortunate part of travelling, though I have to say that I have been very lucky so far. Most people I have met have been friendly and helpful.

I cannot find the same black 4,1L on internet. All are grey/black with orange straps (ART. NR. F9991). Do you know the article number of yours? Thanks!

Apparently, Ortlieb has changed the colour of the straps to orange, otherwise, they are the same as my earlier ones.
