Dan is speaking the truth. I have nothing against Oldman, but it seems like he just gets nomimated no matter what. When he was nominated for playing Churchill, I couldn't believe it, because that movie felt more like a tv movie about Churchill and quite frankly I much preferred John Lithgow's version of Churchill on The Crown.

Voters should be given a window to vote on a film when it's released by score. Give it an out of 100 score, submit it securely to the Academy within 2 months or something. Delroy Lindo's snub is a shame, as our other snubs like Ma Rainey and One Night in Miami missing Picture and Director and Picture and Screenplay, respectively. but I'm happier with the Academy's surprises than I am disappointed by their snubs. Lakeith Stanfield's nomination is something that I have been predicting for a while now, and even though his inclusion in the Supporting Actor category is odd, I'm super happy that he surprised everyone and made it in. His performance was phenomenal and I'm so happy he received recognition. Judas in general overperforming might be a surprise for many, but it was something I predicted for ages and I'm so glad I was correct about that because it's a phenomenal film. Also, Sound of Metal's many nominations were surprising to me: I didn't expect it to be embraced so warmly by the Academy but I'm very happy it was, since it was one of my favorite films of the last year. There were also some snubs I was happy about this year like Aaron Sorkin's mediocre direction for The Trial of the Chicago 7 missing out on a nomination and Chadwick Boseman's nothing performance in Da Five Bloods being snubbed after making Critic's Choice and SAG. But mostly I'm happy for Lakeith, Judas and the Black Messiah, and Sound of Metal.

I saw "Mank", and I was just underwhelmed by it. It seemed like it was artificially created in a lab to win Oscars. But it just wasn't that compelling. Especially compared to Citizen Kane. And can Hollywood become obsessed with a different old movie for awhile? There are plenty of great ones. Some of them even have women in them who aren't 'the wife' or 'the mother'. Having seen Citizen Kane again in preparation of seeing Mank, I gotta say, I'm over it. I was struck by how the 'great man' narrative of Citizen Kane was largely played straight, it fell short of really criticizing and deconstructing and subverting that idea.

Although she didn't win, they nominated Melissa McCarthy for Bridesmaids - a truly comedic performance. I loved that nomination.

Sidenote, but I love the artwork on the nomination-cards.

Frankly, TENET wasn't very good. The choreography for the fight scenes and FX deserve recognition, but once you get past the gimmick, there just isn't much else there.

It's got a pretty good score, cinematography and production value. So the noms that it did get - imo are merited.

While I would have liked to have seen more nominations for Da 5 Bloods, I thought the score nomination was a genuine welcome surprise. I was figuring that 5th slot was going to be Alexandre Desplat for Midnight Sky or Ludwig Goransson for Tenet.

The fact that Dick Johnson is Dead and All In got snubbed in favor of The Octopus Teacher is probably my biggest frustration. Aside from that I'm happy with the nominations for the movies I've seen. I'll be checking out the other ones I can in the next few weeks.

I continue to by mystified by peoples reaction to Da 5 Bloods. I thought it was awful. For me White Tiger is the ultimate snub of this year. Just an amazing film, that also said so much about class and the way humans treat each other. I think Hailey Bennet deserved a nom for best actress in Swallow. I think I agree with the consensus that Mank really shouldn't have gotten any of these noms. It's not bad, but definitely not Oscar caliber.

My biggest takeaway was Andra Day. Such a fantastic performance from her she really blew me away, I was a bit surprised Tigress and Tweed didn’t get an original song nomination but otherwise really happy to see Andra Day there. I believe it’s only the second time in history where 2 Black women are competing in the same best actress category too

My Rants: - No Delroy Lindo for Best Actor - No Soul for Orig. screenplay - No Tenet Score nomination - No "Im thinking about ending things" nomination for adapt. screenplay - No First Cow nomination for cinematography - No noms. at all for Never rarely sometimes always

Imo this year had the least amount of snubs because I can only think of 3 that were big snubs imo. Delroy Lindo should've gotten nominated for best actor and soul should've gotten nominated for best original screenplay and best picture imo. One other one is WW84 for best hairstyling and makeup if you count that as a big award.

I’m realizing I missed a ton of good movies this year. P.S. I only saw Hereditary because of everyone talking about Toni Collette’s performance. Absolutely loved it. She was amazing!

People can't complain about "forced diversity" when the Academy left off Delroy Lindo for Leading Actor and One Night/Ma Rainey for Best Picture.

Pinocchio was a big hit over here, in Italy. It’s, of course, very far from Disney’s approach, more faithful to the original novel. It’s also directed by Matteo Garrone, director of Gomorrah, an author You should look into, Dan. I think you might enjoy his Tale of Tales and Dogman. Expand your movie boundaries! 😁

Tenet would be valid for best Sound Editing, but not Mixing. However, I’m glad that they’ve combined the categories.

Hey Dan, check out My Octopus Teacher in the Best Documentary Feature. I know it wasn’t a snub, but might be cool giving some love to the lesser know categories in a separate vid :)

Delroy Lindo, Spike Lee, and Da 5 Bloods in general not getting any of the major nominations is puzzling. Granted I do think Best Actor will go to Chadwick for Ma Rainey and rightfully so, but Delroy not getting any nomination in either best or supporting, and no director nom for Spike is sad. And yes, the Academy really does overlook and ignore films released prior to October and that’s stupid.

I was shocked as well Delroy Lindo wasn't nominated and I watched Da 5 Bloods twice in Netflix, the first time I watched it I was in awe moments for Delroy strong and powerful performance and the second time I watched it on Christmas holiday and I get emotional because Chadwick Boseman latest performance and there's one film that didn't get nominated was My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising for best animated film and for original song.

3 Thoughts. 1. Given the academy's long proud tradition of aggressively snubbing Spike Lee projects, I'm not surprised Da 5 Bloods didn't get the love. I actually predicted that would happen last summer. And though I love the idea that it would have done better released this fall, I don't believe it. As we saw with Moonlight/Barry Jenkins, the Academy seems to have a problem nominating Black directors on back-to-back features. 2. The rage that you feel for the snub of Delroy Lindo is the rage I feel toward the snub of Boys State. If Time, one of the best movies of last year, loses to My Octopus Teacher, I'm going to LOSE IT. 3. Never Rarely Sometimes Always was a painfully snubbed film. Even in October, I thought it had a real chance, but the super long Oscar season and the late window--Kirby taking Flannigan's spot?--did it in. Still, my rage shall burn for its snubbing till the end of time.

Glad I'm not the only one really sad about Delroy Lindo getting snubbed. I knew it was a long shot because of the lack of attention for him at other awards but I was holding out hope until they read them out. I thought Elisabeth Moss was brilliant in The Invisible Man but I knew she had no shot at a nomination.

How you feel about the Delroy Lindo snub is how I feel about Mads Mikkelsen getting snubbed for Another Round.
