The osprey aether pro is a minimalists pack yet keeping a excellent suspension system for comfortable load hauling capability. It is a great pack for mountaineering, and extend days in the back country.

I use this pack for backpacking and find it very comfortable. I have a set of 3 Lowe Alpine mesh sacks which have a plastic ring at the top and a loop on the bottom .They can be fitted without modification to the compression straps and are the perfect size for pockets, one holds the base of my tent poles one slightly larger holds waterproofs and the largest functions as a front pocket and can hold my tent if required. They don't make these any more but all sorts of generic mesh bags are available some have solid panels where webbing strips could be sown to allow fitting to the straps.

I just bought this pack after trying several Osprey packs. This was a very good and thorough review. The cons are either not cons for me, or things I can live with. But it was great hearing all the details. I’m thinking the close-body-fit is one of the best features, in my opinion. However, I can understand how some might not enjoy the extra heat that creates.

Dude, thanks! This pack was recommended to me by my mountaineering course instructor, which is why I've been seriously considering this pack. You went into the detail that I was looking for that other reviews did not, specifically demonstrating how the Daylight pack attaches to the bag and the treking pole stow-on-the-go feaature. These were the final points. Sold! I'm ordering tonight.

I'm new to backpacking & wanted the best backpack that would last & would still be decent for beginner..But, (after watching this video, which I thank you for) I've realized in my rush to get started this is a little too professional for me, luckily (hopefully) 🤞🏾as I only got the pack 2 days ago, I realize it is a little too minimal for me, although I like being able to add the daylight packs, I miss the mesh pockets you speak of or lack there of & being able to access the pack from the bottom or sides along with a few extras- I think as the pack still has all labels & original packaging I've been told I can return the pack as new but i still want an osprey pack around 70-90L, is this possible? And could anyone please recommend a pack please? I thought I had the pack name right but have now noticed there are different variations of this pack just not as minimalist, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Great content & thank you, only wish I'd watched this before my impulsive behavior take over. New sub ...very much appreciated.

Hi, great review. I’ve just bought this pack and I have a few questions: 1) do you find the back harness creeks when in use and loaded up? 2) Do you think it is a true 70 litre as I’m struggling to get the same gear into into it that I use with my Osprey AG65?
@BackcountryRenegade
@BackcountryRenegade 3 года назад
Hi Tony, it is a true 70 liters but in a different way then the AG65. The AG65 is wider and longer so more of the weight is lower and can pull you back more when you are doing more mountaineering. This pro70 is going to be more narrow but makes up for it in being taller. That way the weight of the pack doesn’t pull you back on steep sections where the ag65 could do so. So it is got to be more of a 70l by stacking more vertical resulting in a much taller pack when filled. It’s better for mountaineering but for typical hiking can be annoying

Aether Plus is much more interesting. The Pro has removed the side pockets and the mega-comfortable large elasticated front pocket. Also in the Plus model there are two additional compartments (on the sides of the same elastic pocket) and the lower and front entrance to the main compartment, which is also very convenient! Also in Plus, the top flap can be removed and converted into a small backpack. The only benefit of the Pro model (which the Plus lacks) is the enlarged side pockets at the waist. The Pro is 800g lighter, but at the same time significantly lost in functionality and convenience, it's not worth it. This might make sense for climbers, but not for most tourists. I also note that there are not enough elastic pockets on the shoulder straps, where you can place a large smartphone, as is done in the new Talon and Talon Pro models. Also the pocket for the drinking system is more convenient when it is located on the outside, and not inside the backpack.

Great and thorough review, especially on a fairly uncommon pack. Ok, B R, sooooo you are on a 3 day, 30 mile backpacking trip - moderate to difficult, some elevation, minor scrambles but not handover hand mountain climbing. Total weight for all gear is 45 lbs. So far, which bag would you prefer?
@BackcountryRenegade
@BackcountryRenegade 3 года назад
Robert Marino thanks! Well if it were based on the packs I have reviewed so far and I’d take the Osprey ag 65, just because it’s a great all round pack and comfortable, If it is more technical more scrambles and climbing I’d take this one in a heart beat and I’d save some weight. Just a higher price tag but you get more durability

@@BackcountryRenegade Which one the Aether 65 AG or Atmos 65? Kicker now is that Osprey has decided to forgo the AG system on the new Aethers.
@BackcountryRenegade

Robert Marino ah sorry didn’t clarify. If you are doing normal backpacking the atmos Ag 65. But I do like more scrambling and some climbing. I would be intrigued to try the new Aether with out the AG. Maybe a review coming 😉

I just got this backpack and the 1st thing I noticed is how light and thin the fabric is, and that worries me a bit. I fear it would just rip or be caught bit something and rip. I'm even considering returning it for that reason.

does thius pack experience the same sqeaking and cracking sounds symptoms as aether ag 70?
@BackcountryRenegade
@BackcountryRenegade 3 года назад
No it does not because it does not have the anti gravity suspension system. That is the big cause of the squeaky sounds.

@@BackcountryRenegade Thank you! I wasn't sure how the sizing is with Osprey as I usually rock Gregory packs and fit perfectly in their S/M packs. But since this is a fixed, singular size, I wasn't sure. And unfortunately, nobody carries them in store so I could trial them out in person.

En esta mochila osprey me parece que fallo. Se hace muy incómodo el almacenamiento sin compartimientos para un mejor empacado. En este caso prefiero la osprey xeniht o la aether plus (nueva )
