Thanks for showing what the contents look like. You're right, no one out there has done that. As great as it feels to receive your MMC, I'll say getting the MMD - the I.D. card merchant mariner document - back in the day put you on a natural high for sure. Thanks again for a great video, Captain.

Captain Craig, Thank you for the info. It helps to hear it like it is. Congratulations on getting your captains license.

Hey bud! It is my absolute pleasure. I am actually working on my masters at the moment. I’ll eventually do another video about that as well. Im glad this helped you. Are you working towards yours or just doing a bit of research ? In my honest opinion. You have to have a lot of self discipline to actually sit down and absorb all of the material. There is so much more you learn online as opposed to the classroom setting. But I am 100% confident that you can do it and pass it. I dragged my feet and that last two weeks before the class expired I crammed all 4 sections in and passed. If I can do it you can too! Keep in touch and let me know how you’re doing with it. If there’s anything I can help you with don’t hesitate to ask. I’ll do what I can 🤘🏽

@@AWOLfishing It is something that I have always thought about doing. It is time with me, I am still working, barely have time to fish. I think that I can get through it, I want to know for my own safety on the water. Thanks for the confidence. Think I am going to do it. Could be some money after retirement. If I jump in and begin to sink, I will ask for your assistance. Thank you. 'Q'

@@dream.catcherI completely understand. Nothing to it but to do it. You’ll learn a lot that’s for sure. But yes time is on your side. You can get it done do a little here and there. The biggest thing is to keep doing those practice tests at the end of each block until you pass them with 100% each time. You’ll be Captain Q in no time brotha! I’m here if you need anything 🤘🏽 keep in touch bud.

Thank you for this brother…. I’ve been a stress case since I jumped off the deep end, and bought a big ass boat! So what do you think about 100% green horns on the water? Well, maybe 95% haha… boated on Lake Tahoe as a kid… I’m sure I need these classes, no doubt. Another question…. Do you suggest getting a physical before buying the classes online? Might have a bum ticker…. All suggestions are appreciated…. Either way this video helped a lot… thanks man! All the best!

@AWOLfishing Год назад
Hey cobalt. Thanks for watching and reaching out. I was hoping this video would help at least one person lol. Don’t stress about anything. Take life as it comes and just go with the flow man. You’ll get through it so much easier and it will help keep the ole ticker from skipping you know what I mean 😁. So what do I think about 95-100% greenhorns. Well to answer that question. We were all there at one point, so I don’t judge at all. I’m surrounded by them on the water everyday. Yes they can be a pain in the butt, but instead of being a butthole to them I’m typically nice at first until they start that I know what I’m doing crap lol. Then it’s ok look here… lol. But I was a greenhorn at the age of 3 by 7 I was backing dads boat down the ramp at the lakes during the tournaments that’s no lie. He drilled this stuff into me like most parents drill sports, and education into their children lol. I’ve got years and years of experience and I learn something new everyday. And I mean everyday! Just be mindful to others on the water and be very aware. Always assume other boaters don’t see you and avoid collisions at all cost. Eyes and ears 360 at all times. Start off slow and get the feel for your vessel and gradually work your way up to your comfort zone. If you feel like you’re not in safe control. Back it down a little until you know that vessel 100%. And what I mean by that is how she responds to wakes, wind, current, handling etc. This is very simple by putting your time on the water. Never panic and let others onboard see that you’re panicking because that is grounds for disaster. Always think of those souls as your own and keep them safe. Before leaving the driveway, dock, port etc. Do a checklist on paper a few times until it becomes muscle memory. Meaning, do I have my all safety equipment, is my boat strapped down correctly, are the tires properly inflated most important for trailering, is everything stowed away so it doesn’t blow out, do I have proper voltage on all batteries, is my kill switch plugged up, do I have fuel, water, snacks, TOILET PAPER!, sunscreen, fishing gear, rain gear, are my compartments closed, do I have my boat keys, registration, do my lights work properly, is my engine properly serviced and does it run. Never dry fire your engine. I see people do this a lot before launching. That is a good way to break an impeller and burn a motor up. Do I have my fishing license. Is everyone with me properly licensed and have all required medication for the day. These are just a few things in my head that I check before I leave the house or launch. Like I said, You will develop your own routine. Sit down and write it out and check it off as you go a few times before it becomes natural. I’m on the water everyday so it’s like second nature to me now. We all have to start somewhere. You’re going to make mistakes, you’re going to piss someone off, and you’re gonna get yelled at. Don’t take it personal just learn from these mistakes we are all human. Run through scenarios in your head , what could go wrong if you were to make this or that decision. Awareness and safety should be your number one thoughts. When in doubt turn about. I can’t stress that enough. Time on the water getting that experience will have you a master in command in no time. But don’t get cocky always think that Every time you’re on the water as it was your first. Lakes and especially rivers can change overnight. Just always be aware and watch for environmental hazards. Shallow water, logs, debri etc. a simple plastic back floating could cover your water intake holes on your engine causing it to overheat and lead to Catastrophic failures. Always have an anchor on board and enough rope to tie off or anchor somewhere in the event of a failure. Communications is another important tool to have in your bag. A cell phone, hand held vhf or uhf radio or epirb with a charger or power supply for whatever you have is also needed. I could sit down and write you a book on these things. But just use good judgment and be aware of your surroundings, your guests, other boaters, weather, wind, etc. when I have customers standing in the edge of the boat relieving themselves. I’m watching (not in a weird way) and watching out for them. What I mean by that is boat wakes, what’s under their feet if they were to step in any direction and what lies ahead. If you have to take your eye off what you’re doing always have someone as a look out. Elect someone or everyone to let you know if they see something that could go wrong. The more the better. Remember. You’re the captain, it is your vessel, your crew, your souls, and your responsibility. As far as getting a physical before hand. Most definitely. If you feel you need to do so. Always trust your gut. If you have heart problems the coast guard may reject you obtaining a Captains license. It is a very in depth physical exam. I’m not a doctor. But in my honest opinion if you know of these medical issues and are on the water. Make sure you always have someone with you, make sure they’re aware of your medical issues and elect someone that you know and can trust to operate your vessel in the event of a personal emergency. Also make sure someone knows your plans before you set sail the next day. Call a friend or relative and let them know, hey I’m going to be at Lake Tahoe fishing around Tahoma bay and maybe around rubicon point light. Always give someone your whereabouts in approximation so if worst case scenario you sink, drown, die or get stranded and are out of communications they can relay that info to rescuers. If you have any questions or just want to rattle my ear feel free to reach out I’ll do what I can to steer you in the right direction. I hope this helps. I know it was a lot but it’s just my opinion. If you want me to make a video about something let me know I’ll do it brotha 🤙🏽

@@AWOLfishing you’re the man! Everything I needed to hear and then some….. I feel much better about this adventure ahead…. I’ve already started studying for the 6pac as well, just for the sake of the knowledge involved. Ever want to fish the Monterey bay bro, you welcome aboard my vessel anytime. I have perfect vision, and am probably overly paranoid about visiting a dr, I pass all background checks, and quit drinking almost 3 years ago. Making all this possible. I took in a lot from what you said, and value every word. Appreciated more than you know…. And I will always remember to not get cocky, protect my people at all cost… and most importantly… the number 1 rule… ( avoid collisions at sea). Man I will read the response over and over again…. Thank you for this added piece of mind and support. Changed my whole day, and mentality for the better. Head high, alert and moving forward…. Shoot my peanut ( brain) is roasted! Have a good one brother…. You a Tahoe resident?

@@COBALTGRUV hey man no problem at all. Glad I could pass my knowledge on. That’s why I am in business. I think you’re going to do fine. Nothing wrong with over thinking. No question is a stupid question. Always overthink when in doubt and ask questions. That’s how we learn and stay safe in life. I would love to come fish with you sometime. And congrats on being sober man that’s a hard hurdle to jump. Stay on that wagon. I’ve always said if you can go to your favorite bar and buy a drink I. The mindset of only having one, take a sip and leave you don’t have a drinking problem. If you stay there and order more you have a problem. Glad to hear you’ve set a goal and accomplished it. Stick with it. There more to life than drinking and doing drugs. Make the best of everyday. This is only the beginning your brain will be full of much more knowledge when you get that booklet in hand from the USCG. Keep at it study study study. And if you have any questions feel free to reach out dude I’ll help you anyway that I can like I said. I’m working on my masters license as we speak. Just busy as hell and have to find the time to sit down and do it lol. But I’ll get there. And no not a Lake Tahoe resident. I have fished all over. Check out my website awolfishing.net if you get bored 😁. Anyways. Goodluck and I wish you nothing but success in your adventure. Stay safe and keep in touch for sure. Captain Craig 🤙🏽

@@COBALTGRUV one question for you. How in the heck do I build this RU-vid like you have holy crap I had no idea you had so many subscribers. I’m new to the whole social media stuff. I just want to reach my first thousand it’s hard to break 200 lol. But what are some things I could do to be as successful as you are with this RU-vid stuff.
@COBALTGRUV
@COBALTGRUV Год назад
@@AWOLfishing lol…. I wouldn’t call it success by any means…. The funny thing is…. It’s almost the same stuff you told me in your response about boating! Persistence, passion, consistency, and niche. Just like fishing, target your audience, bait the hook, and wait for the bites… the more enticing the bait… the bigger the fish/audience. What attracts your fish? Is it boating in general or is it fishing? Where do you get your most likes? When you notice you get a crap load of likes on a particular video… repeat the process. Don’t get discouraged, and ask your audiences what they like as well. Trust me when I say… they will let you know what they like and don’t. When they do, run with that… scent that bait or lure and keep casting! Always remember the internet is a viscous place like the ocean… it can be ruthless…. Just pay attention to what people are into (trends, etc…) , and what drew them to your channel to start with…. Also, to let it be known. Now that nearly 20 years of my life were put into it as fun, now I’m gaining recognition, and not sure I like it anymore now that I’m older…. And question myself now wondering why I did all that…and put forth the effort for so many years…. What I realize in the long run is that I have grown up somewhat, and my priorities, and interest’s have changed. Something to consider when striving for the audience early on…. To wrap this comment up for the moment…. #1. If it ain’t fun, funny, or educational… then you’re not doing it right. Fishing isn’t cute like puppies so that won’t work on a fishing channel, boobs on the other hand will improve your views tremendously… lmao…. I only wish you the best in your RU-vid endeavors bro…. Seem like a cool cat, so I imagine you will succeed…. KEEP IT FUN! Also, I will shout you out in a video to see if we can steer some people your way…. Keep going man, 200 will be 20,000 in no time… rock on! 🤘🏻
