Three letters: OHV. I know Briggs built a few in that configuration, so it's up to you guys to find one that fits... with a little help from us folks in RU-vid land! ;)
truly well deserved, i remember watching these guys in johns parents garage building mainly small go carts. i love to see them doing good for themselves
Love the channel... been watching for years now... def like many of the projects and like the fact that most are budget oriented. And yes Charles is all around good guy that any team would appreciate. I am an older subscriber so I like Isaac and his wisdom about everything mechanical and life in general... sure we would be fast friends if parred in life... keep up the quality work... youtube has created so many opportunities for content like this... it is a blessing when garage go cart builders have an audience... and a market for that talent... we all are the better for it!
On the farm a magic box was always a rotation converter. A 90 degree gearbox was always just called a gearbox. We only ever used rotation converters rarely like on multi blade offset slashers where they needed to turn in opposite directions for balance. Even most of them just used 90 degree boxes on different configurations to get the correct rotation.
@@1one3_Racing am actually curious here. What is a multi blade offset slasher? Is it a tractor attachment? What is its purpose? Never heard of such a thing but then again I'm just an extremely small time hobby farmer just growing for my own family haha!
@@lilredwagon5311 yes, to behind a tractor. You have a standard slasher which is just a giant blade running off the pto through a 90 degree gearbox. An offset slasher doesn't pull behind the tractor but pulls alongside it so you dont run over what you're cutting. Depending on what you're cutting and how big your tractor is a single blade may not be enough. Our 200hp tractor used to pull a 3 blade slasher (which looks like like a ride on lawnmower deck bit bigger) and since all three blades were on the left side of the input shaft we ran 2 blades counter clockwise and 1 anti clockwise so it pulled alongside but didn't shake itself to bits.
This episode made my day. Back in 1971 my dad bought a Trail Breaker manufactured by Albion. It was the exact same thing as the Rokon you guys have been working on. It had low gears for climbing over boulders and logs and trenches. My question to you is did you have to sacrifice the low gear and good torque needed for climbing when you redid the gearing to get more speed? Thanks!
I was also curious about the low gear speed. I know Rokon makes a street legal version now too that goes about 35mph. I’d get one but all the tech and engine isn’t even worth half the asking price they sell for.
Rokons were built in a former railroad workshop in Keene NH just down the street from where I lived. For a short period of time I worked on restoring a silk screen press in an adjacent bay in the workshop. This was 1970-71. If my memory serves me , the engine in your machine was geared down so low was to make sure there was adequate power when the vehicle was loaded and operating in high altitude back country. I also have a vague memory of them working on a motocross or an enduro bike with an automatic transmission. I remember very little about that bike except that it was very fast and did some impressive wheelies down the length of Railroad Street.
You don't really want a Rokon going a lot faster. Its intended purpose isn't just riding trails - it's _breaking_ trail - hence the name. This thing goes not where other things fear to tread: it goes where nothing treads at all! 20mph is plenty. And it has a transfer case to bring the top speed down even more, giving LOTS of gear reduction, or at least the new ones do.
The 3 of you stuges can get some stuff done. Definitely love the crew and that includes charles! Here's to 2022 with cars and cameras cant wait to see what kind of gnarly things you all can build in the new big shop
Build a mad max style thing. BUT it needs to be part bike, part kart and part 3 wheeler. All extras are helpful lawn mowers, weed eaters, generators and any small engine are allowed. Each person makes machine. If possible have someone help each other as they do the build. Then do a coarse. Fastest lap, steep hill climb, track, jump then best looking design.
Surprised you guys didn't use a predator, or tilitson. The original powerbee was in the 8 to 11 horsepower range. The current models use a Kohler 8 horse.
Keep in mind this Rokon was factory geared to be able to drag the Deer, or whatever you shot, out of the forest. To test if this is still possible with the new gearing you could simply tie a rope to Charles's leg and take him for a lap around the track. Just kidding Charles, we love ya!
I love the channel. Charles is a natural fit with the show. I can't wait for the builds coming up! I can only imagine once you get the shop built out. Will they still initially build/plan projects on the floor? That's the question lol 💯
Another great video guys. This Old Man really enjoying watching on my new 70 inch tv in the ManCave. Hope 2022 is great year for you all. Love you guys. 🛵🧔💝💝💝
I love how Charles is doing call backs every week, like he's a true fan of the channel who now gets to do the work. I'm also pretty sure he's a fan of Mortske Repair, I've heard a couple call backs from there too.
I always love your vids. The exhaust work it's pretty slick. It'd be cool if it came out the end where the tail light was but it works well. Looking forward to the new upcoming ambitious projects. nice job guys!!👍👍
Are able to get paperwork from rokon to take to your state DMV so that you can get it street legal as farm equipment, you'd be able to drive it on public roads?
Love the Rokun Content they were not built as a speed machine would love to see it doing 2 WD stuff. Bringing on Charles I originally thought was a mistake. I changed my mind and now appreciate what he brings to the channel. The dynamic the 3 of you share is great. Congrats on getting the new shop up and running in 2022. Car & Cameras keeps bringing more great content and we the viewers Love it. Dazza from Australia
love watching the speed runs on your track and i,m glad you guys are thinking of making it a bit safer, having done plenty of laps on tracks like yours its really only a matter of time before someone clips a tree ,so a little bit of clearing in some spots encourages you to push a bit harder with less worry. play safe and love your channel THANKS GUYS
Considering that it's a two wheel drive bike with no suspension. and those tire's and wheels have so much unsprung weight. it set a respectable top speed and laps on the racecourse. a good CVT system is the way to go I swear by them. my go kart launches real well and has an incredible top speed.
I've wanted 1 of the Rokons since I was a teen. Now I know it just takes a few mods to be able to keep up with the Coleman's,in most trail's.Well done guys. Can;t wait for the paint.
That's the problem with shaft adapters. They don't leave much key left to grab. I installed a TC on a BT200X with a shaft adapter. I checked it for wear and it would have probably worked but I ended up getting a 3/4" shaft cause IT BUGGED ME that there was so little key interfacing with the TC pully.
Your Rokon originally was a 2-stroke model designed for a top speed of 20 MPH, New 4 stroke is 35 mph, they were never designed for speed, their aim is 60-degree incline from a standing start, climbing up and over obstacles is where its at for Rokon. I believe the magic number is maximum 8 hp, the limit of the drivetrain. Always fun to tinker.
Look I know I don't send super chats but I've been watching y'all for like years bro. Why the f*** does my video shut off and go mute about 20 seconds into your f****** video? I'm sure it's not your fault but I just thought y'all would want to know this is some bulllarky why I got to keep starting the video over.... Your voice is going over my message cuz I'm watching your video now LOL
I like the idea of modifying They’ve turned a Ranger model into both-field & urban setting’s I think they need a lockout-on the front miter box along with the slip clutch-it would be fantastic Take your new Rokon Ranger & modify it Myself I’d like to see a Rocking Reverse-so you can get in there & with the 🐷s & whaler in the mud Could make -em a little jealous…🐷’- i mean You already have the power source So a solenoid would probably do the trick
The original engine was a 2 stroke manufactured by Chrysler/Dodge if i remember correctly, a 2 stroke could run consistant up very steep inclines, sideways or upside down. swapping out for a Briggs is dodgy at best, The last of water cooled japan 2 strokes with a quiet exhaust are likely the best choice for this application. or a properly geared crf 250-300cc thumper would work quite well too. i rode a Rokon 2wd trail blazer for first time in 1962 or 63, amazing how far you could go on a tank & both tires full of petrol which made for great traction too.
Please!!!!!!"""PLEASE"""!!!!! Guy's on the Rocon there. Please for everyone's safety of manhood part's! Please check out all around the Neck of the bike frame! They were very known for cracking up there and they'd separate from the rest of the frames while you were riding them! It's a very common issue that a decent weld would fix fairy easily. Just something I wanted to share with you guys, they have a bad reputation for this exact thing happening normally you would usually break the U joint in the neck, or something along those lines depending on where they cracked at. Just a little FYI so no one gets hurt! Especially ones that been sitting outside for half it's lifetime it might be hard to see if it's cracked with the rust? Just be careful and sure to check into this area please. Wishing y'all a happy New Year guy's! And a healthy and safe one as well!
John, Isaac, or Charles. If you have motor trend check out full custom garage season five episode six. It’s about a jeep build but 3/4 of the way through he makes a custom mini chopper. Might give you some cool ideas or inspiration.👍🏻🙂
I had a KLR that had a diesel 18 HP Generator engine put in it and it would do 55 mph using a CV transmission. (A David Sarks build) When I bought it I couldn't get it over 40 mph. But after bending up a lot better intake and exhaust tubes for it, it breathed a lot better. I made it so it would breath through the KLRs Air FIlter and exhaust out the KLR Muffler. It was even street legal. I rode it to work several times for about 3 years ..... I sold it to a friend in Ohio. I believe he's still riding it. It was a hoot to ride but smoked badly at top speed WFO. Wanting to build another one, one of these days and use a real transmission with a clutch. Plan is to use a 3 cylinder Turbo Diesel Already have the engine & 6 speed transmission. You guys are a hoot!
Ironically an old 2 stroke kawasaki kx100 or honda cf110 or something would probably set a super fast lap time. Even a modern 4 stroke cf110f would be fast due to larger wheels and good suspension. Would love to see what time an older 90's mini-motox racer would do.
I would love to come upon a deal like that. They want almost as much for a new Rokon as I paid for my Honda Pioneer. I may have to dig through my shelf of gearboxes to see what I can come up with. I'll bet one of those Lifan 125cc engines with the 4 speed would be useful. Marry that up to a hi/low gear box and add a set of shocks... Where's my notebook!
Myself would have went with a Harbor Freight 208cc engine, yep it is a screaming $150 out the door, and they have a shitload of performance parts dirt cheap for them. Built a 4 wheeler nicknamed Frankenstine as it is Yamaha, Honda, Polaris, Harbor Freight, comet and what ever was laying around the shop. Would love to get one in parts condition to do the same. Oh by the way built a motorized bicycle with a side car that tops out around 24mph would like to take it on your track.
i bought 2 90 degree 3/4 thread and a 1.5 ich 3/4 straight pipe and a 3 inch 3/4 straight pipe and put same muffler on my 12.5 hp tecumseh snow blower lol
These guys get hung up on the stupidest stuff. "Don't give me shit about using plumbing pipe which has the same ID as the exhaust tube and will work fine" But then don't worry about the open CVT right near you pant leg or the sketchy AF sleeve and welded key right near your nuts. I mean, it'll be fine. But if you're you're going to worry about something, you need to have priorities.
OK guys. Forget Grand Prix circuit records. I think you set a new janky record for the fuel tank strapped to the front rack. Had more bounce than Dolly Parton. 🤣🤣
i have watched 3 videos in 2 days and all 3 have had a fire of some kind. Puddin's truck, RedBeard's paper towel and Ike's ummmm "behind" (even though his was intentional). seems like 2022 is gonna be fire on these channels. pun intended.
Rokon is cool. They were geared very low from what I understand. I first read about them when some people used them to cross the Darian Gap (no roads) thick jungle between North and South America back in the late 60s I believe.
It’d be awesome if you guys came to Mississippi I have a 81 Honda trx200 I’d love to donate to the channel for you guys to work on, I think 81 was the first year they made the trx200 not sure but I know it would be a great project
Happy New Year's guys. Looking forward to seeing more videos on the c10's and the caddy. Stay safe guys. Are you guys doing a Spring Mini Mayhem or will it be in the Summer?
