I have a feeling the cylinders that don't get a straight shot on the new intakes will be down on power compared to the the ones with the straight runners, it's a pretty abrupt turn and you should have made an intake where all 4 have equal length and geometry runners to a single intake chamber fed by both carbs.

Run a balance tube between the 2 intake manifolds. That will help balance things out and smooth the idle.

4A032 is a great little engine. it's big brother, the 4A084, (84 Cubic Inches vs the 32 Cubic Inch displacement) is another engine you should be developing. We modded some of them and put them on home built aircraft. Great engines.

I've got the 2A042 from the mule running direct to a 54in pusher prop never goes over 2800rpm on a trike. But I've got one of these for a boat idea.After coming across a jet boat with this little 4cyl. Military tough from the 50s

Since it is a 4 cylinder you could fuel inject it with something like a fuel tech or Holley injection system or build a intake for a single barrel carb for a car. Both of those would give you way more fuel and hopefully be easier to tune.

the difference in performance of this thing is mind blowing, also to think that with a few minimalistic mods in the long-run, you could get that yard cart to go much faster than it should ever be able to go, thats hotroddin' right there boys, i hope this thing gets featured again/more this thing is ridiculously awesome, a few bugs to iron out, and she'll be more of a ripper, also i agree with another commenter, a fully built and turboed version of this engine would be Epic

Would be a damn shame if you had to get a custom cam,oversize valves and forged lifters and pushrods with a forged rod and flywheel, maybe try out a turbo and efi......

Thumbs up indeed. I have been looking forward to this thing running on 4 cylinders since episode 1. Ike, on your racing version aka "4A032-Type R" imagine this beast with 4 carbs on long cross-ram intake runners, 4 into one tuned stinger exhaust (so I can hear it running in AZ) AND most important of all ... *MORE THAN 6:1 COMPRESSION RATIO* . The insane potential of this engine needs released! I think the cam sounds fine for three times the power it makes now. Oh, and a REAL clutch that can handle the power. Thanks for making my day on a very rough week for me. What? I didn't say anything about a third dragster ... but that is a good idea!

Guys I have one of those motors I will donate to the cause. It would be the ideal candidate for the experimental porting and polishing. It hasn't run but the last I knew, and I KNOW, it has a hot magneto on it. It might be a few weeks but I should be able to meet up someplace. This will save carving on the new engines until you have seen what you are getting into. Cheers Terry

What you've got to do is tune the carbs to the intakes that you've built. Put a vacume port in each of your intakes, then hook up a inline vacume gauge setup, one that tests the overall indipendant vacume to each of your carbs... I'll bet you that one of them is more open, if you will, than the other .. then all you have to do is adjust your cables to be at the same intake vacume as each other's .... And then tune the carbs to the engine by turning your air fuel ports

I don't know for sure but I'd be willing to bet that this engine has a good amount of torque it might be cool to make a 4 wheel drive low geared articulated rock crawler with it if yall want to tackle a big ground up project again lol! Great video as always, love watchin yall!

This has been an interesting build. I think this engine has enormous potential to make stupid power. I agree that, turbo'd or not, it may be a very interesting option for the King Midget....if you can find enough airflow in there to cool it.

guys, the sheet metal is pretty important on that engine, it route the air through the jug fins for cooling. for anything other than few minutes of running at the time at full power (and more) you should put it back to prevent overheating. I am also looking forward to see how much juice you can squeeze out of that engine. Go Nuts!

A gold wing style 4 carb manifold would probably work wonders. Or maybe two tiny two barrel carbs on equal length manifolds. Could be a monster with that alone, but would be insanely effective with a good port job, and shaving the heads if possible

I think this project is BEGGING to see it’s top speed potential. Gears, turbo, etc!!! That engine is a torque monster. Gear it to the moon and see what the CVT can make it do!

Need to name this build Patton. You should do a fat boy mini bike with that engine. Also you might want to repack your middle lift cylinder and replace the check valve in it. It shouldn’t be miss staging like that. The carriage should be to the top of the mast before it starts going to the second stage.

Love the paint job! On you next HP military motor build. Look into having someone 3D print you a 4 into one using a center plenum that would mount a two barrel down draft automobile carb. Do all your intake and exhaust porting, then port match the intake. On the exhaust side build an equal length 4 into 1 header. This looks to be a low RPM motor so go with smaller pipe that's a bit longer, it will help with low end torque. The biggest gain will be with building cylinder pressure, so mill the heads and reduce the area over the piston.

Back in the late 80's me my dad and grandfather bought 20 of those engines. 5 were turned into experimental aircraft engines. The test mule was a home built gokart. And 10 were pure spare parts. The last 5 were left stock. It was a blast and ran great. We used a single 38mm carb and made zoomies with a muffler on each. Did some port and polish as well as a minor shave to bump up compression. We also did turbo and superchargers but never dyno time,just seat of the pants vs shifter karts.

I must admit that the engine is a beast. I'm not sure how well it is going to stay cool with the tin shields missing. If it becomes an issue, you guys are awesome enough to correct the problem. Your combined fab skills are great. See you in the next one.
