No, don't tell me how to do it; my highlights in astrophotography were the Moon and Jupiter and four of its moons freehand with my smartphone through the eyepiece of my very cheap telescope and my cheap telescope. I was thinking you do it.

Just trying to learn some basic polar alignment skills here, not for astrophotography, just to efficiently track a bright star object for viewing when I'm holding star parties with my family - you know, it's when everyone's pissed that you bother them with your telescope ¢®@¶ and you have to show them where's the eyepiece and explain that they have about two seconds to get into position after you call them and they mustn't kick the tripod and then complain they can see nothing through your ¢®@¶¶¥ telescope, and then they point to your poor money management skills, blame it on your shopping lists including stuff like telescopes and then they just go away ranting; with very few exceptions. So, Rory, I... can't figure out how to point my telescope South at Venus after polar aligning my German EQ mount; I live smack in the middle of the Northern hemisphere, obviously in terms of latitude. Would you, please, direct me to some kind of tutorial that would be helpful with this?

@@Astrobiscuit it's been almost two years now so I'm sure you don't remember recommending the reducer corrector for me. But thank you so much for that! It's channels like yours That Grew my passion for this Hobby. I'll be joining the Discord server soon.

@@Astrobiscuit os there any way to retroactively do it? Like tell them that I heard about them through you? Technically I did. You told me to use them when I got the reducer long ago. And thats why I got my mount from them too.

@@Astrobiscuit I just sent an email to FirstLight Optics explaining that you were the one who introduced me to their company and that unfortunately I didn't know about using your referral links. I told him you deserve the credit for the amount and the reducer corrector that I bought from them and that you're responsible for me being a FirstLight Optics shopper. So I know it's a long shot but hopefully they give you the credit.

@@Astrobiscuit copped an eye full of Jupiter tonight after using advise of the mods from the discord...so well done them...many a chap called Eagle...just need to know if it would be better using a x5 Barlow or change to a 6mm eye piece....I used a 10mm and a 2x Barlow to see Jupiter but just want a bit more zoomage

It's actually not that bad, they don't push things on you, sure there is an option to upgrade and used things you can't on a free account, but you don't need to put a lot of info in. It's been around for a while now

sorry about that. When was it you were on? General chat is full of noobs, lf you go deeper into the server there are less. The Do It yourself or telescopes channels is generally pretty good and the biscuit tin has none nor the BAT. We are weeding out the bad eggs thats why im curious to know when you were on.

​@@Astrobiscuit i just hopped back on to find the old messages... it was 27th august in the sales chat, the other users seem to have removed their messages, or since been removed from the server, the main offender however is still present... i won't name publically but he's "Pulsar" role, and as i recall was this role back then too, not a random noob, i can ignore random noobs safe in the knowledge if they keep up that behaviour they'll be soon removed... however this is someone closely affiliated with the server, so likely to stick around for many years. not something i'll voluntarily wish to sign up for, and frankly, couldn't recommend anyone else sign up for either. it's not a huge deal, i wasnt implying it's the best scope on earth, but it should be worth something to someone, figured the noob friendly server of budget-friendly DIYers would at least appreciate the heads up... but i was instead faced with ridicule for suggesting such a thing had any value at all. i run several communities with ZERO tolerance on elitism... and this to me screams elitism. it's something i'm sure you've come across yourself many times in the astronomy hobby, and are also seeking to dispel... my point here is it's in your server too, despite your efforts...

you don't need 150x zoom to see orion nebula... a fat telescope at about 20 x zoom would be better

I'm actually trying to find out how to make enough money in order to make more docs... straight docs earn me nothing. Amateur Telescope docs earn me something through commissions but terrible weather meant I haven't gotten a telescope doc out for xmas so we have to make do with what we've got.

@@Astrobiscuit : I feel your pain but you have to feel mine too ... it's that kind of sharing (jingle bells, and such). Ouch. But seriously : I understand. My pain is I now have seen you in docu mode and (to me as a Dutchy) it's BBC quality. You should be getting paid for that. Another one of my pains is that I would support if I could (financially) but I can't so I won't, for now. What I can do, though is suppert by skills (mine's graphic design and 3D). So ... should you feel the need to put those jungle bells on the line, I'll help to carry the load if you'll let me ^_^ Channel wise : again, if I had the dough I'd be gazing along. That's how much you got me into this.

@@Astrobiscuit : O, tip? Do a vid on the Netherlands. We have some history with telescopes. Make sure Dutchies can find the content ; ) Seemingly, all of the Netherlands is non-stop scoping RU-vid for content about us, including me.

@@theGoogol thx mate, i actually don't see how to make it work without affiliate links. RU-vid ad revenue is terrible. My best film ever earnt me about £100 for each day i worked on it. The rest are much worse.
