Gabe is autistic and nonspeaking. He has an affinity for music! He doesn’t play an instrument yet, but we decided to get him a guitar for Christmas! Now we need an instructor! I can’t wait to see how his musical journey develops over time!

I love the way his eyes lit up when he strummed a certain sound. I can definitely agree this was an EXCELLENT gift to give Gabe.

There was a young man who took music right after my daughter. He also was on the spectrum and by the time I met him,he would answer questions and say a few things independently. I was told he didn’t start to speak, until he started music lessons. What I know to be true is that he played and sang in a pitch perfect tone. His voice was slightly mechanical and to me that added a unique dynamic. He would always Play something for us before we left. Apparently his father would play a song over and over the week before a lesson and give him the sheet of music. Then he was ready to learn it when he arrived. He had a huge playlist now and plays at various nursing homes. A wonderful gift to so many. Anyway, I thought I would share. I hope Gabe loves his new guitar

My bf and I are both autistic ourselves, and music classes are what brought us together. I was just learning guitar, and he was already really talented having been playing for years. He is also left handed so it was much easier for me to mirror him as we are both visual learners. We just celebrated 5 years yesterday. Music truly is the universal language ❤️

You have given your son a gift that can open up his world so much. Our autistic son taught himself to play the ukelele, then asked for a guitar. He is not nonverbal but he was very much retreated into his own shell before he discovered music. Fast forward about 3 years, he now also plays the drums, has both an acoustic and an electric guitar, and is now learning how to use music production software on his computer all on his own. This is going to be a great journey for your son. Sending you lots of love and well wishes!

Excellent guitar, Gabe! You’ve already played your own tune on it! Thanks for sharing with us! Music is all about how you hear it 😊 🎶

I have played guitar for 30 years. I've always kept my emotions hidden. I quickly learned that the guitar could be my voice. It could speak for me. Play that thing, Gabe! The guitar can say what words cannot.

Just a suggestion, I bought a guitar for my kids & they lost interest in it pretty quick, but their interest was revitalized when I tuned it to open G & taught them some slide. Making chords takes a lot of practice & slide guitar can give them a quick boost of confidence & a sense of accomplishment. Rock on & hope you have fun with it 😎👍🎶

This is a terrific gift. Even if he wants to continue holding it like that, he could just play it like a lap steel guitar. Hopefully this can become a way for him to express himself more. You can see how interested he was while exploring with his hands and the joy on his face just from making a little sound. I can only imagine how excited he’d be if he learned to play a song he knows and actually developed some understanding of how he can make those sounds.

I worked with the handicap and mentally challenged adults we had some who were non verbal and our company got each of them a typing device that they could type out what they wanted to say and it would speak what they had written it really helped them to be able to communicate with everyone.

As a father of a 20 year old Down Syndrome boy, I can definitely relate to this. My son loves music and has a couple of instruments, including two guitars, and I can testify that when he plays his instruments he is the happiest kid on earth, and when your special needs child is happy, as a parent you feel happy as well as accomplished!! ❤🎶🥁🎸🎤

So exciting to see what Gabe does with his new guitar! He can feel the strings vibrate when he strummed them and was a bit curious!
