Our Camping To Caravanning Story - Our Journey!
In the early nineties, I began going camping with friends when at the time,
we did a lot of walking around North Wales & the Lake District.
As well as walking, a tent was always the accomodation,
when we'd be sea fishing also; the tent was never far from the rods!
Then as a couple, things became a lot more homely!
Gone where the days of freeze dried meals, a meths Trangia stove
and the bare basics including using a coat as a pillow,
It was the duvet and pillows from from home 😀 shop bought food and
A Coleman petrol and lantern combo! Back then, that was glamping 😀
Later on again, around 2015, when our son was 6, we decided we
wanted to go camping again, but obviously, it'd be a different type of tent camping.
So enter the family camping set-up of Vango Icarus 500, awning, carpet, electric hookup,
tables, chairs, kitchen equipment and air beds. A million miles away from that drafty dome tent.
We love camping, we really do, even now, but there's something problematic
about drying out a tent and awning in a small garden after a wet pack-away.
After a lot of wet pack-away's, setting up in the pouring rain and the car being packed
to the rafters, we decided that we'd begin looking for a touring caravan.
Not only because of the set-ups and wet pack away's, but as a rule,
the camping season was too short for us, and we wanted to get away
all year round. So something that'd cope with mud, rain and, with a heater was in order!
Camping for us was for sporadic get-aways, drop of a hat weekends away,
which with a small dome tent and not much else was certainly do-able.
But with such a large family camping outfit, camping stops being sporadic.
One of the very things that appealed to us in the first place all those years ago.
I personally, don't agree with the "so you've upgraded to a caravan", they're two separate hobbies.
It's like someone with a motorbike upgrading to a car 😀 They're totally different things!
Anyway, I'm waffling! Join us on a little trip from camping to caravanning
Once which hasn't been without its niggles, but we wouldn't change at all!
