Toya, I'm originally from New Orleans, living in Houston. My husband and I raised my brother 's daughter too, after he died. She was 10, and now she has her Masters Degree in Psychology. I have always had very heartfelt, honest conversations with her regarding her absent mother. I made her understand that her mom had the problem, not her. She was never allowed to be disrespectful towards her but never sugar coat it either. I got her therapy because I wanted her to grow up knowing that she was loved and deserving of love in spite of her not receiving it from her mother.

Toya baby PLEASE, PLEASE listen to your husband baby. I can TOTALLY relate with you. My mom was on drugs since I was 3 years old. Drugs DESTROYED my entire family. EVEN ME for 15 years. I been sober for 18 years now. I'm the baby and I have worked 2 and 3 jobs helping my family. I lost my mom to lung cancer in 2010 and had to bury her myself. Everybody NOT gone want what you want and it's NOTHING you can do about. LOVE THOSE THAT LOVE YOU BABY! STRESS WILL KILL YOU.
