Craig: The objective of Commander is to deal 10 points of damage to each of your opponents. There's also a lesser known alternate win condition where you deal 40 points of "non-infect" damage.
Anthony Dinh Jimmy's favorite card: Sneak Attack .... Anthony Dinh , an intellectual: "Jimmy spelled 'Ancient Tomb' wrong" ... Me a real Intellectual: "Jimmy spelled 'Ancient Tomb' wong"
I had just started playing and didn't know much the game. I just knew i loved monoblack. Went to my lgs and asked the owner about black staples. Which format he asked? I don't know I replied. He then spent 20 minutes giving me black cards (duress, victim of the night etc.) I paid around 10buck on cards that day. On top of that he then GIFTED me a Grave Titan. To this day it is still my favourite card ♡
If you decide to do a part 2 you should interview all your guests each time they come on and put together a compilation of their favourites when you have enough!
I feel like Command Zone is really expanding into new heights, having new or different on-screen talent and raising the production value. This is so cool to see. Keep up the great work guys, you’re the best! Edit: my favourite card is definitely Omniscience - the ability to cast your spells for free is such a satisfying feeling.
I honestly feel the opposite about Omniscience. Whenever I play it, it just feels boring to cheat every card in your hand out. Guess I just like the aspect of making choices with the limited mana I have
Elucid fair enough - I only run it in two decks, and those decks draw tons of cards (Locust God and Estrid Enchantress). Usually in Locust God, I can wheel enough to find my wincons on the spot
It is heavily overlooked. I feel like I have to get more of them before they spike up like Mystic Remora. Also, far less anoying than Remora and Rhystic Study, so it draws less hate.
Im with Manson on this one. I love myself a good villainous wealth. Sultai is my favourite color combination to play and this is the one card that i've decided is in all of the decks that can play it. Some times its big, some times its small, some time it wins, some times it flops. But it will always be different and unique.
Sultai is my fave too... Villainous Wealth is great in any sultai deck... Mimeoplasm and Damia are my favorite commanders... Probably second is Muldrotha... Sultai is soooo good.
My favorite Sultai commander: Volrath Shapestealer, the things my commander has shape shifted into, the amount of times they get infect and unblock-ability. I recently added both Dryad of the Ilysian Grove and Nyxbloom ancient to the deck allowing Volrath to shape shift into either, giving me extra extra land drops and x6 mana Villainous wealth *_*
I just wanna point out that according to MTG Stocks, Reap cost nothing until July of 2019, (0,30 or so) in July it went up to 2,75, and after this video in Feb 2020 it went to 7,50... Josh impact in MTG singles
When Murphy said "that friend that likes to draw a lot of cards" I couldn't think of anyone, then realised I constantly deck out from drawing to much x3
Rob L it won me a game last week cause of gary being in my grave then got a million etbs and drained my opponent for 26he was at 27 then cast cast profane command for one 😂
@@bigpuma2149 maybe i should put the gray merchant in my deck. Its a sidisi deck in 3 colors about 39% of the pips are black do you think, is worth it? Heres the deck: deckstats.net/decks/130408/1482828-sid-the-kid-let-the-dead-fly/en
My 1st commander deck was just a hidden hermit druid (jarrad golgari lich lord) deck that looked to win with living death. Mike trike combo or just big dumb stuff for the W (spider spawning or creeping renaissance were all stars as well) but for probably 4 years living death was probably the card that won me the highest # of games. XD
Living Death is absolutely glorious. It's satisfying enough if you're just playing a sacrifice deck like I do, I can confidently say it would be devastating in a proper Dredge deck like Sultai Sidisi.
My favorite card is Perplexing Chimera... **runs for cover** I nicknamed it "The Cold War", as it freezes the game, and the threat of it can only be eliminated with a boardwipe (aka "Nuclear Blast"). Well, actually it isn't as annoying as everyone thinks. It can be taken out by cheap removal, like a Red Elemental Blast or Pyroblast, which I never exchange control.
Brudiclad is great. I remember one time when I managed to un-tap with him, 8 Thopter tokens, and about 11 or 12 mana and going "Mycosynth Golem for 2, play Mirrorworks, play Blightsteel Colossus for 2 and copy it for 2. Go to combat. Make a Myr token. Turn all 9 other tokens into copies of the Blightsteel token. Swing for 110 infect damage with trample..." It was glorious.
Favorite card is Bolas's Citadel love casting cards from the top of my deck for a little life such a powerful card that combos so well with so many cards
My favorite is probably howling mine. Everyone likes it when you play it, and my first deck was a Nekusar deck. I tried to make it sweet and salty with card draw for everyone :D and then I play Nekusar and you take 5 damage. Every turn. But hey you get hella cards 🙂
you might want to look at Dictate of Kruphix. It has flash so you can get the first use of it. There is also Kami of the Crescent Moon - Howling mine on a stick.
This was fun. I'm glad Josh talked about a different card and that we got to hear other peoples' favorite cards. All the usual people seemed to talk about exactly what you expected, but that's ok. As for me, I like cards like Fact or Fiction. I like involving other people in my turn outside of any kind of opportunity for counterspells, instant speed removal, or combat. I love stuff that switched permanents, lets them make a choice, just anything that doesn't make my turn all about me.
Your shows are awesome. I can't get enough of them. After about 10 years of not playing magic your shows helped me get back into it. Now I'm running 20 commander decks. Keep the content coming.
Progenitus has gotta be my favourite card. One of the coolest creatures out there in my opinion. It's always a great time at the table when our boy, The Soul of the World, returns.
My new favourite in green, that I've seen once (then forgot about until Craig mentioned it here) and now put in my "Cards to buy/trade for ASAP!": Lurking Predators. It'll be PERFECT in my Elf Tribal Omnath, Locus of Mana deck! Churn out loads of elves that can make mana straightaway on my next turn, or be buffed by Overwhelming Stampede/Pathbreaker Ibex/Dragon-Throne of Tarkir and a huge Omnath for the win! Tbh though, it's good in any deck that has green and 30+ creatures, which (aside from some weird Temur spellslinger decks and Selesnya tokens decks) is most decks with green in! Maybe not Hydra tribal though, heh!
My favorite card is a tie between: Parallel Lives and its white counterpart: Anointed Procession. When I started learning the game I was enamored with the large token power of Selesnya and so I bought like a playset of Parallel Lives and when I saw Anointed Procession, I was super excited. I could never justify paying for the monetary cost of a Doubling Season...so these are the better option for me. They have been in every token commander deck I have built.
Master Biomancer is my favorite commander card. It's strong without any combo enablers, by giving your future creatures +2/+2 and can get absolutely out of hand with clones. I have Progenitor Mimic and Altered Ego in my Momir deck and just those clones alone are enough to snowball out of control and have creatures enter with hundreds of +1/+1 counters. Master Biomancer also also gets out of hand with Lord and Anthem affects that further make your creatures overpowered. Some of my combo payoffs are Prime Speaker Zegana and Fathom Mage to draw my deck while leaving a huge body and my favorite finisher is Galloping Lizrog which has ludicrous interactions with Master Biomancer, because it'll enter with all the counters your Biomancers will provide and then Galloping Lizrog's ETB goes off and removes counters from everything (including itself) and then doubles them onto him, which then you slap Lightning greaves and knock out the most threatening player. Master Biomancer combos are also great with Simic Asendancy because you can just play a. Creature and get the 20 growth counters off a single creature entering.
Craig w the epic and chilling closing: “....so if you play Triumph correctly, Atraxa and all the Praetors will be happy w you and all will be one. Long live Phyrexia!” I LOVE IT!
What's my favorite card you ask? Fallen Ideal. Hands down. In a game where having a sac outlet can make or break you, this sac outlet isn't going anywhere. It also makes enchanted creature evasive and can make them HUGE at the drop of a hat in any sac-centric deck. It's like having a sac outlet mushed together with a Rancor with a flying cherry on top. So good.
If I had to pick a specific card to be my favorite, it would probably be Sword of the Animist. It lets me ramp in every color. That's all I want to do. That's all I've ever wanted to do.
My favorite cards by color: Blue: Swan Song Red: Purphoros, God of the Forge White: Swords of Plowshare Green: Green Sun's Zenith Black: Kokusho, the Evening Star Colorless/ Artifact: Teferi's Puzzle Box
By far my favorite card in Magic is Coat of Arms because I love tribal and in my zombie tribal Ghoulcaller Gisa deck it wins me more games than any other cards because every creature in my decks (besides Gisa) is a zombie AND I make zombie tokens AND it says creatures not non-token creatures. I love tribal with all my heart and it makes the game very interesting when you play an opponent who also has a tribal deck.
Living Lore! The very first rare card I ever opened from a pack I bought for myself I was sketch at first, but once I looped it with the Cruel Ultimatum trick, I just fell in love
I've been a sucker for approach of the second sun ever since it was spoiled and I watched people playing it in standard. It prompted me to build an entire blue white control deck led by Ephara centered around winning with approach A close second is sage of hours in my ezuri deck, I actually didnt know that you could take I finite turns with it for the longest time because i was so new to magic when i built the deck but i just thought he looked cool and he was one of the first mythics i pulled.
After a 9 year break from magic, I bought 4 packs of BFZ when it came out. Pulled Ulamog, and never looked back. Card brought me back into magic, so I'm with Ashlen and I jam Ulamog into any commander deck I can.
My favorite card to play in commander is Commit//Memory. The versatility is just so good. Bouncing a permanent that is causing problems, or even bouncing a spell off the stack (not countering so it stops uncounterable) and the later allows you to shuffle your yard back into your deck and drawing a grip of new cards.
My favorite cards: EDH: Emrakul, the Promised end cEDH: Tainted Pact. Emrakul is just such a great way to kneecap the player who is ahead, and often helps remove permanents that your colors have trouble interacting with. Tainted Pact on the other hand is just a fun card to resolve. How far do you want to go in order to get the card you want?
I wasn't going to comment on that...but yeah - funny that the first response someone else had was the lack of white. I am glad to see so much green as I'm a mono-green player. This made me love Ladee Danger even more and like Ashlen Rose quite a bit less for her affinity for annihilator. It's weird to see 3 mono-green cards and only 1 of them do I agree with as a powerful card (Triumph Of The Hordes), but fogs aren't a part of my play style nor is graveyard recursion like Reap, Eternal Witness, or Regrowth.
Estrid is my favorite card. She ramps you if you use land enchantments, she protects the most important pieces of your game plan, and she lets you recur your graveyard after digging for 7. Super fun bant commander.
All these great cards are so interesting but the thing that really got my attention in this video is Ladee's discussion on Renaissance Fairs. It's a great breather for me and got me all interested in them so thanks for the cards and info on the fairs!
I really love all the things that Aminatou can do, like Gilded Drake steal something, -1 on the Drake to steal something else. Some people don't know Aminatou says "you own returned under your control" and get really caught offguard. Witchclaw Talisman from Eldraine is also nice for that reason-- tutoring twice for other Aminatou synergies before giving your opponent a tutor (or using Aminatou to reclaim it each turn and never let them have it long enough to tutor). Perplexing Chimera is another mean one.
My favorite card it "The Great Aurora". It is a very fun ramp/reset/board wipe. Each player counts up their hands and all permanents they own. Then they shuffle everything except their graveyards into their libraries, draw the counted amount and put all lands drawn this way onto the battlefield. I've thrown games because i make sure to cast this card no matter what.
My favorite card is Last Laugh. This little enchantment in my Thantis deck had won me a couple of games with some indestructible creature on the field and constant boardwipes and/or Pyrohemia effects.
This episode really got my pod and I thinking an awful lot about our personal favorites, and what they showed us about what we value in the game. It caused a lot of very valuable introspection. Thanks a lot for this, gang.
I LOVE Food Chain, it is such a fun card to combo off with and while I don’t like cedh decks the small taste of what one can do while making the deck fun and interactive is why I LOVE Food Chain and I’ll continue to play it in all green decks I have.
In Commander i love geting to se new combo`s between cards that usualy dont belong in the same deck and so i love to copy/steal cards from my opoments, and so my favorite card is "Villainous Wealth"
Any time I see a video about favorite cards I have to mention Hex Parasite, Sudden Spoiling, and Fleshwrither so here you go. Hex Parasite can remove X amount of counters from any permanent, Sudden Spoiling turns all of a player's creatures into vanilla 0/2s until end of turn(perfect for a massacre wurm) blowout, and Fleshwrither can fetch any 4 cmc creature to the field. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Great episode tonight. I am really into massacre girl at the moment. Difficult to say my very favorite, but I am concentrating on her as a Commander with lots of rat colony. Its super fun
Favorite Card: Merciless Eviction. It's a nice versatile board wipe that gets around indestructible. But my copy knows it's papa's favorite. I can't tell you how many times I've top-decked it at the perfect moment.
Ashlen: I also got into MtG along side of the beginning of the Zendikar block; I was kindly given the BG Llorwyn Elves starter and quite a few staples from the Magic table at the community college I was attending at the time. However the first pack I bought was the day after Zendikar dropped, I pulled Eldrazi Monument as my rare and still remember asking all the regulars what an Eldrazi was. Worldwake dropped and mmm...jellyfish ♥
kamakazi339 I have had trouble with the corners curling with dragon shields and they are not nearly as durable as eclipse. Why do you prefer dragon shields?
I actually ran one copy of psychic possession in a Enduring Ideal / Forced Fruition deck, just so I never had to draw the last card in my deck. It actually saved me in quite a few games.
hahahahaha! this is how a good entrance has to be made! xD My fav 2 cards..: - Time Warp/Temporal Manipulation (and those kind of cards, extra turns are awesome if you play them fast, if not... they are very tedious for everyone!) - Ashnod/Phyrexian Altar! (and those kind of sac outlets)
Some of my favorite cards are some that I'd honestly probably never use. Form of the Dinosaur: You literally BECOME A DINOSAUR. Why summon creatures and stuff to fight your enemies with? Literally just BECOME A FREAKIN DINOSAUR and FIGHT YOUR ENEMIES YOURSELF. The card just makes so much sense and it's so badass. Cards like that that just make too much sense are among my favorite.
My favorite cards in each color are: White: Teshar, Ancestor’s Apostle Red: Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker And honestly, the rest of them, I don’t have a favorite. For a bonus, here’s Multicolored: Ice-Fang Coatl (goddamn it Will it’s staying in Yarok if you read this)
I started playing Magic in my sophomore year of high school about six years ago. I got into magic because it was a cool card game that my friends where into, and it reminded me a bit of YuGiOh from when I was younger. I immediately fell in love with the color Green and crafted my first deck of Jund Dragons. Fast forward roughly a year, and my friends invited me to my first Prerelease at our LGS. I was excited to try it out, and, when I opened my box, I saw Omnath, Locus of Rage. He was my first ever commander deck, and, since then, I've been refining him ever since.
As a lover of creature decks, my favorite card is Descendant's Path because it goes great in any tribal or semi-tribal deck since you get to flip the top card of your deck and cast it for free if it matches a creature type you have in play. This works great if you have First Sliver on the field because now that freebie cast leads to a cascade of slivery joy!
As a practically brand new edh and magic player all together and coming from a background of playing competitive yugioh of almost 10 years, I'd have to say, my favorite card is lightning bolt. Its so iconic for me being the first magic card I've ever seen and playing burn as a fun non meta strategy in yugioh for strictly laughs and smiles, it warms my heart that I can have that feeling again in magic!
I bought like 15 reaps last year at 25 cents each just waiting for y'all to shout it out and make it spike 😈 And cause it goes in most of my green decks of course
My favorite card has to be Jace, Wielder of Mysteries. It’s a combo card that can be shifted into a grindy control deck and opens the path for multiple possible win cons. Combines 3 of my favorite things into one: Mill, Control, and Combo decks.
I haven't dealt with a lot of different vendors, but I will definitely say I've never been disappointed with the grading of cards from card kingdom! Cool stuff inc on the other hand has an apparently different idea of what near mint means. As in, not as good as card kingdom.
Lately my favorite card has been avan mind sensor. I tend to play “fair” decks and the bird shuts down so many decks that are just trying to rush out a combo
One of my degenerate friends favorite thing to do in magic is search his library.. every turn..😒 we've added mind censor and strangle hold.. they ruin his day big time
Best argument for their card: Craig's was best, followed by Ladee Danger. It's better to have a card that is good as a stand alone than to be dependent upon something an opponent has or, usually, might have. If I picked a favorite, probably would be Time Stop. Why? I'm old. Too much going on, someone wants to infinite combo while I'm still putting on my glasses to read a card...quatsch that! Grin, tap the man and Time Stop everything and maybe no one will noticed I pass gas when I grin.
@@anactualopinion868 Actually I'm a deplorable. I haven't been a degenerate since I was in my 20's. "There's no such thing as an unearned win."---Houston Astros
Spreading Plague is my favorite EDH card, and criminally underrated. It's a five mana black enchantment that says "whenever a creature enters the battlefield, destroy each other creature that shares a color with it." I run it in a pretty control-ish Erebos deck and the degree to which it warps play is insane. It handily keeps all three opponents in check, especially if they're playing aggressive, creature-centric decks.
My favorite card is Merciless Eviction. It feels like it can answer any board and is a very flexible boardwipe that, unlike Austere Command, exiles so you don't have to worry about any of the things you get rid of. I also have a lot of artifact, enchantment, and superfriends decks in my playgroup and it's extremely good when an opponent's deck is focused on one card type.
My favorite card: Urza, Lord High Artificer. Hands down. Favorite commander, favorite playstyle, I love artifacts and blue, and he's the pinnacle of that. Second favorite: Emry, Lurker of the Loch. Favorite in colors (other than commanders): Blue: Search for Azcanta (I love the free scry and value it gives to any deck, and the fact that it flips into a cool and useful land just adds that extra somethin) Black: Bitterblossom (My favorite playstyle that includes black is Aristocrats, and bitterblossom is second to none in token generation) White: Sun Titan (I always love using this card. It lets you recycle all of those mana rocks or creatures that died, and it just does weird stuff that white doesn't normally have the ability to do) Red: (don't really play red, but if I had to pick one from my small amount of experience) Pirate's Pillage Green: Harvest Season (This was a tough choice for me, but using this card in weird ways to just ramp out like 10, even 20 basics for three mana... there's just no other card that can do it like this)
