What's the best thing you've ever found? That's one of the questions archaeologists get the most. Today, we try and answer that question after two weeks searching for the remains of the Anglo-Saxon monastery on Lindisfarne.

apart from the namestones and white quartz pebbles, it's the first real 'personal' artefact we've had from Lindisfarne :)

The finger with rings, wow. One of the rings was copper and the other was made of bone. I wonder what size they are.

Quartz pebbles are indicative of the sanctuary area of a Celtic chapel. Irish monks would decorate the altar area with quartz. As for the finger, that's part of a person's body and should be treated with respect.
