Annette it was a challenge without certain things. Thank goodness with the pantry that we have stored and squash it made it easier. Next year we will be more ready with fresh garden goods. Thankful for the fish we caught and a few barters. 💚 Great challenge!
You did an amazing job. It is so hard. I’m a visual learner also. Congrats on the weight loss too. The pictures are gorgeous and vibrant! You’ve come so far!
Annette you and Glen did so well. I enjoyed seeing your beautiful photos on Instagram of all your wonderful looking meals 🙌🏼 The prices of food here in Australia is ridiculous. Good on you guys, and great to see how you went and what you learnt from the challenge. xx Cathi xx 😘
You keep a real good record of everything! And you are so right about food inflation, it's everywhere. We spent $100.00 the other day on liquids only😢. How does your veggie box work?
Thank you! I have no idea how families without a garden manage. It worries me. For our garden boxes we have customers that purchase a box each week from the start of the season and pay $30 each week for whatever is ready. We don’t require them to pay first like a prep or csa (community supported agriculture). The garden produce balances out over the four months that we can harvest from. The first boxes are full of salad items and the later boxes are heavy with winter potatoes and squashes. Hopefully that answers your question! Take care, Annette 🌺
I also am a visual learner at spot the only way I think I can learn. Thank you so much for a great video and some great information. I may have to come back and watch this video a couple more times.
I love this video! So cool all the variety that you had for the month, that is really impressive. We didn’t do the challenge this year, but after doing it in 2023 it really helped us to try and incorporate more of what we grow over the entire year. It really helped us to focus on growing more of what we enjoy eating, I think I got caught up in growing new things and so many different varieties of things, this is such a great challenge to really help you focus on the foods you enjoy eating after they are preserved. I hope to do even more preserving this year.
Thank you! It is easy to get caught up in growing things that we don’t necessarily like or want to grow. Your grow zone is definitely conducive to growing a wide variety though. Excited for you to join next year!!! 🙌 Take care! 🌺
You are a rock star, Annette!🤩 I've learned so much from you! Imagine if you'd had you today to teach you the first year you tried this. It's going to be so great for everyone learning from you. 2025 might just be the year to join you! 😁
Thanks so much Kathy!! You should join us next year. Honestly, we still have so much we could learn or try. It has definitely turned into a personal competition of sorts but in a fun way. Take care! 🌺🥰
Oh, I’m sure it was a very hard challenge. I doubt I could do this. Maybe I could in the future if I get enough produce growing in my garden. But I really don’t know. We’re not big eaters but we’re bad junk eaters. But I am little by little growing a little more produce in my garden and I’m thinking eventually I may start feeding my little dog some of my veggies if I can get enough going at the same time I live in Southern California so I can grow stuff you around here. Hugs and kisses from grandma Sandy and Debbie. Thanks for sharing this hard challenge with us but I’m sure, it is really helping you to be self-reliant just in case things really go south. That’s one reason why I have really trying harder every year to get my soil and get myself in the habit of going out and eating from my garden. Also we don’t do as well as you, but I am as starting as is, starting to get better at what I’m doing and I have a pretty big sea collection also that I can plant from. And I let my plants go to seed in my garden and that also helps. I have a lot of things that come back every year that I don’t even plant just cause they are established in my gardenfor I can have a food forest
Thank you for your wonderful comment. I’m so happy that you are trying to grow more of your own food. I understand wanting the treats. It’s hard for me to say no when it’s something that makes me happy! I have watched you make so many yummy and healthy meals on a low budget!! Such wonderful inspiration. Take care, Annette🌺
I had seen someone say that you could cut the bottoms of the green onions off and put them in your soil and they will grow you know what they do. I have a whole bunch of green onions growing in my green stocks now and they were started from store, brought green onions, but now I can just go out to the green Stocks and cut off whatever I need and there’s no waste. That’s another reason why I think I like gardeningbecause I don’t have to pull the whole plant out on a lot of plants. I can just cut what I need every day and everything is fresh.
You should do a couple presentations at your local 4-H fair, on how to do more with less! You're a natural teacher, and it would be a valuable lesson to those suffering from food shortages. Do you include recipes with the veggie shares you sell? That is also very helpful, for those who don't know the best way to use the vegetables they get. We're all creatures of habit, and have a hard time venturing into new areas of interest, including food and meal choices. I'm 61 years old, and recently started my first batch of sourdough starter. Last night I made sourdough English muffins! They turned out looking exactly like the English muffins from the store! So far, it was the easiest sourdough project I've made. I got the recipe off of the RU-vid channel "whipperwill holler"! She does the mixing and kneading in her kitchen aid mixer. She also adds a little store- bought yeast, after she tried many ways to make them with just sourdough, and found she likes the yeast addition the best! I was so excited to use my new electric griddle to "bake" them. They're heavier than store bought, but I will take that tradeoff, for being easier to digest. The biggest lesson I've learned is, "YOU CAN TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS"! I wish I had this knowledge when I was raising my 4 children!
Thank you so much for the kind comment. I am so happy for you to be learning new skills, especially sourdough! I do share recipe ideas with the veggies that I grow in the garden. We have a Facebook page in the same name where I put that kind of information. Take care, Annette🌺
