We finally got out to do out first overlanding camping adventure and it didn't go exactly as we planned. Our first time out was definitely a learning experience. We might have bitten off more than we could chew trying to do a multi-day and multi-location trip our first go. Between long drives and getting to camp late, to bad weather, we had a lot to figure out quickly. Oh and add to all of that, we brought our new puppy and things got complicated quickly.
But we had a blast, got to meet up with some friends and ee did get to take a beautiful drive down Heintooga Round Bottom Road, an unimproved forestry road in the smoky Mountains.

A few years ago I camped at the top at Balsam Mountain campground and did the road the next morning. Saw elk but no bears. It’s fleece weather up top at night in the summer. Perfect!

I didn’t think too much of that gravel road. The river part was absolutely beautiful, but not worth the trip. And no overlooks when I went thru there. 😕. At least you had a better half to keep you positive!!

Yeah. I agree. It was really pretty, but it didn’t live up to some of the hype we heard and was a really long drive for us too.

YJ wipers are notorius for problems, check the fuse before you get too crazy tearing into it

Yeah. I checked the fuses and the wire connection under the bash. No joy. Ordered the new motor. So I guess that’s my next project / video. Haha

Hi Mr. and Mrs. Brodie. New subscribers here. Things never seem to go as planned. You're an intelligent guy and can handle anything that comes your way. Jeep Camping is full of trials and tribulations. We've certainly had our share. We've been Jeep Camping in South Korea for the past year and have been through freezing cold and crazy monsoon rains. It doesn't stop us. Only strengthens our resolve. We'll be moving to South Carolina in October after we cross the US. See you on the trails. Love the Jeep and always enjoy your videos. Cool that your getting out there and enjoying the Jeep and trailer and the new puppy! Some of the best memories come from things not going quite as planned. What did you end up naming the trailer?

Hey Matt , You are braver than me camping in bear country in a tent. Did you bring a large cal. gun ? We were up near there in Gatlinburg , got a little snow. We rented a cabin and really enjoyed ourselves . Was a Christmas present from our daughter and son-in-law. Real pretty country there. Love the new puppy , we just got a new one and he is a mess. Enjoyed the video.

Haha. No we didn’t have any thing with us. A few places we went prohibited them so I just left all that home. Gatlinburg in the snow is beautiful, I’ve only been there once in the snow, but it was great. Our puppy can be a big mess too. He usually is actually. Thanks so much!! 🙏🏻

@@SimplyMustGo . Yeah it is, gotta watch for bear though my buddies and I were hiking way up there and ran into some territorial black bears. I always carry my 10mm and bear spray while hiking. Most encounters haven't been like that one though most the time they run off

Can you attach a bike rack in the rear of the Trailbox? How wide is the trailer from tire to tire? Thanks!

Yes. You can add a bike rack as long as it’s a hitch mounted one. I’m not sure on the tire to tire. I’ve since upgraded that trailer to their new trail box and I put bigger tires on it.

how much would i be looking at for a jp jeep?

Really depends on the condition of the YJ itself and if you get it a Sahara package or if you have to spend the money and time turning it into a Sahara. Also depends on how screen accurate you want to go. If you just want the paint, you could do it yourself pretty cheep. If you hire a shop it could be $4000+ Mine was more expensive because I had to get all the things to make it a Sahara, plus all the things to make it JP. I would say budget 4-6K depending on where you're starting with your Jeep and what all you want do yourself vs. other people. I've seen people get it done for as little as 2K if they can do the work themselves and have a Sahara YJ already.
