Thanks again for joining our Kerala Travel vlog! This video is incredibly special and unique because today we are vlogging Kerala’s and Asia’s most populated and crazy festival…. THRISSUR POORAM. This latest travel vlog will showcase our reaction to this festival. The history of this festival spans thousands of years and was originally held at a different temple near Thrissur. Temples from all over would bring their deities and on Pooram the deities would come out of the temple on elephants. This brought communities together. But in the 1700’s there was a rain delay and some temples could not make it on the day and time. The temples pleaded with ruler at the time, Shakthan Thampuran, to allow them to participated. He decreed the real Pooram to be a day after and in Thrissur rather than where it was held before. The unique history drives a unique festival with amazing percussionists, elephants plated in gold, the passing of umbrellas, fireworks, and a MASSIVE amount of people. This is said to be the most populous festival in all of Asia. SO if you are looking for the BEST things to do in Asia, look no further. Thrissur Pooram must be at the top of your Kerala Bucket List. The festival highlights the vibrant culture and allows anyone to take part and vibe along with the crowd, even as foreigners. We loved our time and are so thankful to have been able to come.
