@@memnarch129 Carolyn Jones was the best Morticia in my opinion, Angelica Houston is very very close or maybe even equal tough.

John Astin just bests him slightly, at least in my opinion.

There will never be a more perfect Gomez and Morticia than Raul Julia and Angelica Houston.

Specifically, they got Christina Ricci to do it! They thought she was the best one to do so haha

The "kids are well behaved" part is a bit questionable. It works for the Addams' but Wednesday regularly tries to kill Pugsley. In the second movie, in addition to more of the same homicidal behavior from Wednesday and new homicidal behavior from Pugsley, the children are seen sawing the railing of the stairs. Seemingly fine for the Addams', but not exactly "well behaved" to others.

@@Br0nto5aurus Thats kinda the point. The family is a perfect nuclear family, from the Addams point of view. Yes to OUR view they are all batshit crazy, from theirs? They are a loving supportive family.

With daughter Wednesday as nearly everyone's favorite (and the breakout star, as evidenced by the Netflix series directed by Tim Burton) & the parents Gomez & Morticia (often shortened to Tish) are couple goals.

He was only 54 when he died. During production on the second movie, his condition affected his energy and the script and direction tried hard to accommodate him. When Angelica Huston was approached for this first movie, she was reluctant: the tv series was, to use a word already tired, iconic, and she was anxious not only about living up to Carolyn Jones, but about who could be cast as Gomez after the classic eccentricities and energy of John Astin. I remember reading that when she was told it would be Raul Julia, her eyes lit up. Angelica Huston is the daughter of John Huston, the famous and gifted screenwriter/director. He, in turn, was the son of the magnificent actor Walter Huston, who, in sort of link to the Addams family, played Mr. Scratch in a delightful adaptation of "The Devil and Daniel Webster", aka "All That Money Can Buy".

They made several TV movies out of the munsters... some better than others. And the original Munsters DID have a movie, Munstera Go Home. But bottom line, Fred Gwynne is irreplaceable as Herman. It's his hight, his voice, his mannerisms, and his face that was so perfect for that character... but most importantly it's his pathos.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply, I have seen bits and pieces of those shows, they werent bad but no where near the success level of the originals because Fred was so good as Herman . In addition to the qualities you mentioned , I would add his comedic talents. He was hilarious.
