The way Ed just comes right the fuck out of nowhere with a knife the millisecond he and Stede are mocked for loving each other was so fucking funny, like this show really just looked at homophobia and went "no 😊🔪"
I don't know how controversial it is to say this but i like that Blackbeard and Bonnet actually REALLY get their hands dirty this season, fighting and even killing when necessary. The idea of nerfing them as pirates by having the crew do all the bloody work would have taken some of the thunder out of "fearsome gay pirates" aspect that I love about this story, imho. Also, that shot of Ed rising up out of the water is ART...
I'm not good with killing and violence AT ALL, there's already too much of it in the fucking real world. I wish they would just make love. But well ... the happiness on Ed's face when he reads Stede's letter to him is worth millions. Like the sun's rising. I'm perfectly good with that, and that they're opting for inn-keeping at the end.
I agree! The (often) ridiculous & exaggerated violence reminds you that it’s a show about outcasts who live this dangerous lifestyle and form lovely relationships anyways. I also don’t understand how people don’t remember the violence in season 1 and somehow thought this show was somehow violence free
I could be remembering this wrong but was The Revenge docked when Ed threw his leathers overboard? I remembered the ‘docking’ remark. Ever so glad he managed to find them 🤤
Exactly my thoughts. Thought he would have put them on the boat. Still putting on leather pants must be nightmare when you are wet 😂. But the scene is literal 🔥
I was doing fine watching this scene for the first time until I realized that both Ed and Stede's voices were reciting the letter and they finished reading it together on "we wrote our names on each other in permanent ink". Taika's acting was SO GOOD, when his eyes softened and he was holding back tears and said "This is lovely"... I FELT THAT IN MY SOUL. It was so genuine and sweet. And when he yelled "YOU WROTE ME A LOVELY LETTER", I died. Sometimes I yell when I am passionate about something. It was so relatable.
I knew he'd find a letter, but I thought he'd just be such a bad fisherman that that's the only thing he'd ever catch is another of Stede's letters lol I like the snatch and kill approach too
The part where you can hear both of them reading the letter is so lovely! What a great scene and what a great last episode of the season! I love this show so much!
We're all going to avoid thinking that there's no way Ed could have gotten this far in such a short amount of time to not hear the explosions of more than a dozen ships, because the scene is too emotional and romantic. Edit: I forgot that a man turned into a bird and La vie en rose was sung 200 years before it was composed. obviously, this show is not completely accurate and we love it for that.
Unfortunately the plot is rushed due to only 8 episodes instead of 10 like in season 1. But I don’t blame David Jenkins etc, he did his best with the time he got - but it’s always all about money (budget) and that sucks 😣
@@BuntesFuenkchen Yes I agree. One thing is to use fantastic situations or make deliberate anachronies to make the story more poetic. Another thing is not having enough episodes so that the characters' actions develop in the appropriate time and do not lose credibility. Unfortunately this is an underrated show. At least we had a second season.
He's dissociating during that moment. Just like he's done in the past. I think it's a really important moment and shows how affected he is at seeing the destruction and thinking he lost everyone - particularly Stede.
I so love this scene! I wonder how he managed to dress underwater with all that leather and the boots, but it made for a great entrance when he came out of the water. And "YOU WROTE ME A LOVELY LETTER!!!" is just the greatest line. It's wonderful to use for almost any occasion. "YOU GAVE ME A LOVELY GIFT!" or whatever. It kills me every time.
Do you know what’s amazing? It’s the same song the Swede was singing during the Fuckery in season 1 when Ed had a flashback to killing his father and called himself the Kraken.
@@andreab7445 ohmygod you're right!!!! I just saw that scene and it's the same motif, I can't believe I missed that its a super cool detail. Thank you!!!
Yeah, I’m not sure if it’s been uploaded mixed anywhere but it’s the song Voi Che Sapete combined with Humble Wanderers by Mark Mothersbaugh who composes all of the original music for the show and he put it on Spotify under his name
My favorite part of the scene is the first few seconds of the video were Ed comes back and he sees the Republic of pirates blown to smithereens, and I can just imagine the only thought going through his head is oh my God I’m never going to see Stede again; he’s dead. And that that’s the kind of angst I needed
Does "we wrote our names on each other in permanent ink" mean that they have tattoos of each other's names, or is that just Stede's weird attempt at a metaphor?
I love this scene so much. Him yelling about it being lovely made me laugh, but I get why he’s yelling lol. I probably would too if I find a love confession, but then feel it’s ironic if he’s too late because the English killed Stede or something.
I'm not gonna debate whether Ed could read or not nor do I have any complaints about this scene since their voices being heard together is absolutely beautiful but it would've been funny if Ed WAS illiterate and threatened the second solider to read it for him 😂 (After reading) Ed: that was lovely 🥲 Soldier: it actually was 😊 Ed: thank you for reading this for me Soldier: oh no problem, uh.. can I go now? Ed: yes, you can go to hell now Soldier: wait wha- (neck snap)
Ed surely is a quick learner! In season 1 we'd established he couldn't read. LOL! All jokes aside, I'm glad he used the time between season 1 and 2 to learn, so that now he can read Stede's lovely letter!
@@chiarardn2401 In real life, Blackbeard could actually read and write and I think the X is also a way of an indigenous person saying they had to sign it under pressure. I seem to remember someone else commenting that.
@@supernaturalhunter1352 I do know that the actual historical Blackbeard was likely a wealthy, educated man, able to read and write. However, OFMD went in a completely different direction and showed him to have been a destitute child growing up with an alcoholic father and a mother who was struggling just to put food on the table. Growing up in such a family, he probably would have had no access to education. Besides, in s01e05 (the one where they go to the fancy party with all those nobles) Ed is shown as very keen to know what the written invitation says, but doesn't actually read the invitation: Stede reads it to him. In s01x09 he signs with a cross (no way that has anything to do with having to sign under duress). That's something that only a person who can't write would do.
People assumed he was illiterate because he signed the Act of Grace with an X but what they don't know is that indigenous people used to sign with an X to show that they signed under duress. Also Ed read his name and found his seat at the table in S1.
@@ZS-gd9zh true! good point. I guess I assumed because of that one like where Lucius says "I'm the only one who can read" but now that I think about it Ed wasn't there yet
@lilivanessi I heard indigenous people signed with a cross to show that they were doing it under duress. If I remember correctly, Ed read his name and sat at the correct place at the table (S1 Boat party).
