I also think what's strong about the representation in this show, is that characters who are stereotypically "effeminate" or flamboyant queers aren't punished for it in the narrative or by the other characters! This take could also apply to Stede, but I read it about Lucius originally; the traits he has that are not what (especially in the pirate culture he's in)is perceived as "masculine" are some of his biggest strengths. The fact that he's educated rather than trained in combat, the fact that he's sensitive, that he's good with breakups, that he's confident- those are all his best qualities. We've seen a lot of stereotypical gay characters in the past who were punished for those traits, and in this show almost all of them are either celebrated... or they're just there. And I think that's an amazing step. Another thing this video is reminding me of is how much it hits me to keep seeing people who hear about the show, and watch it, and then go "oh, its ACTUALLY queer??? Holy shit!!!" because the community is just so used to queerbaiting at this point that we don't expect anything more. This is the show we never thought we'd get. I am so happy it exists. :)

I can't stop thinking about this show either! I watched it at LEAST 5 times, and now I get my fix by watching reactions where other people watch it for the first time so it's like I'm getting to watch it for the first time again vicariously through them. Why can't I stop thinking about this show!? I think maybe my mind will rest once they announce Season 2; the uncertain future of the show is driving me nuts.
