@@juliamavroidi8601 Lore wise, Yggrassil (the main computer running the digital world) thought there was too much useless data running around, so it unleashed a virus to kill off the majority of Digimon. But some digimon survived either because they were naturally immune (these are natural carriers like the Alphamon line) or because they mutated and gained anti-bodies against the virus (hence the term X-antibody digimon). However these mutations did more than just make them immune to the virus it also tended to make them stronger by either enhancing the data already present or unlocking hidden data in the digimon. IRL reason is just it's an easy way to make edgy variants of classic digimon, and while I'm not a fan of all the X-antibody digimon, there are some great designs

Okay so the Digital World was reaching its storage limit, kinda like a computer would, and this affected Yggdrasill, the God of the Digital World, directly, which made it start to act crazy. So the best solution it came up with on that crazy state was to just kill ALL THE DIGIMON except 1% of the population, which would then be moved to the New Digital World she was creating. So it made the X-Program, a virus that attacks the Digimon's Core(their heart) and just kills them over time, this thing worked like a charm except for the fact that 1% of the Digimon that got it developed a way to be immune to it, called the X-Antibody, which not only made them immune to it but also brought out parts of their Core's data and made then stronger the more X-Antibody they had inside of them. Afterwards Yggdrasill moves the 1% of Digimon to the NDW, but the X-Antibody Digimon also get in, and she doesn't like it, so she sends the Royal Knights to commit genocide, yada yada, the usual.
@@juliamavroidi8601 X-Antibody Digimon were introduced in 2003, but they don’t get much exposure outside of Japan besides video games (Digimon World Data Squad had WarGreymon X as a secret boss) or cards. In the anime they only use natural carriers so people unaware of X-Antibody wouldn’t even know if they were looking at one since they don’t have X in their name (i.e. Grademon in Digimon Xros Wars). Most storylines begin the same with the Digital World being overpopulated, Yggdrasil creates the X-Program to wipe out the majority and moves a select few to NEW Digital World that he creates. Surviving Digimon develope the X-Antibody then flee to NEW Digital World unintentionally bringing the X Program with them then scenarios branch off. In the movie Digital Monsters X-Evolution X-Antibody Digimon are being shunned by regular Digimon and being hunted down by the Royal Knights at Yggdrasil’s command. In Digimon D-Cyber only X-Antibody Digimon live in NEW Digital World because all of the regular Digimon didn’t have immunity and were deleted.

@@MarcusRalphson The Z'd for Z'd Garurumon and ZeedMillenniumon are different things entirely. Zeed from ZeedMillenniumon is a trasliteration of Z'd, from Hebrew writing, which means "Proud." Z'd for Z'd Garurumon is for the last letter of the Latin Alphabet, which represents the end (as in the final evolution that Garurumon can achieve). Zeed Millenniumon's translation is correct because it's a way of properly writing it, either that or Ziyd but that one looks bad. Changing Z'd Garurumon to Zeed Garurumon is wrong though.

So I believe the Japanese name does read as Z'DGarurumon. However the name is probably due to the cannon on its back is called a Z'd (zeed) cannon. So its a Garurumon with a Zeed Cannon.

@@MarcusRalphsonInterestingly the name is spelled the same, but the origin is not. Zeed in ZeedMilleniummon is normally written as Z’d in Hebrew, meaning Proud. The word is pronounced Zeed, but Hebrew often omits vowels. Zeed in Zeed Garurumon is just a reference to the letter Z. As such interestingly, it SHOULD BE Z’d Millenniummon and Zed Garurumon. I entirely actually think Zeed Garurumon understandable localizer mess up since Zeed Milleniummon came out way before Zeed Garurumon and they saw those two having the same prefix and just assumed one for the other. The people who originally translated Zeed Milleniummon screwed up and that kinda trickled down.

On the topic of the small images, the images the official Digimon website uses for the Digimon Reference Book entries (kind of like the Digimon version of the Pokedex) are just really small. However, they've started putting out bigger versions of the images lately on social media, but I think it's mostly for newer Digimon or when older Digimon have a prominent appearance in something new, which is why some of the older ones are still stuck with tiny thumbnail-like images.

The most annoying thing about Zeed Garurumon just being "Z Garurumon" but spelled dumb, is that Zeed Milleniummon has it's etimological basis on the Hebrew word for PROUD (ziyed or something) which is spelled and pronounced THE EXACT SAME FUCKING WAY in Japanese lettering but it gets the cooled logistics behind it because it's a BOSS VILLAIN CHARACTER THAT CAN DESTROY THE WORLD. I love this series but I can agree this shit is dumb as hell.
Zeed Garurumon is one of those odd English dub names where they spell something phonetically, like Veemon or ExVeemon. Why they didn't go with Zed Garurumon is beyond me. I mean, it could be worse. It could be one of those Engrish names that occasionally pop-up in the official English translations. SlushAngemon, Kurisarimon, Rotosmon, LoadKnightmon, Varodurumon etc.

Ohh, I hope the Mugendramon/Milleniummon line is next. Please if you can, show some clips of Milleniummon and ZeedMilleniummon from the 2020 anime. I would love to see their reactions to that Eldritch horror that digimon is.

So, originally, WereGarurumon wasn't originally going to evolve into MetalGarurumon. What it WAS supposed to evolve into, I don't know, but the current evo line exists primarily because of toy sales. Bandai wanted toys that transformed, and giving him and Agumon their current Mega forms was supposed to result in toys being easier to transform, and being more marketable. So that's what you have to blame for MetalGarurumon being the Mega form.
So, about the MetalGarurumon being not equal to MetalGreymon thing. It isn't confirmed in any way, but it kinda makes sense to me, at least. In the original adventure anime, the warp digivolution for agumon to become WarGreymon goes from bottom right to top left, while gabumon becoming MetalGarurumon does from bottom left to top right, and so it looks to me like the digivolution lines intersect a small bit. Cause it feels like WarGreymon is a grown-up Agumon that holds traits from Greymon and MetalGreymon but has gained the ferocity of WereGarurumon, while MetalGarurumon has traits from both Garurumon and WereGarurumon but has gained the cybernetic trait from MetalGreymon. That is just what it seems like so I could be totally wrong.
I’m an Agumon fan first, but Gabumon and its digivolutions still hold a special place in my heart thanks to the anime. Who doesn’t love an artillery wielding wolf?
Whenever I have to remember about Z'd Garurumon, I always think that is somehow weird that this subspecies and SPOILERS are supposed to be like this because they were reincarnated by the Holy Beasts for the main lore events. The thing is that SPOILERS is a reincarnation of the Royal Knight Dukemon... while Z'd Garurumon is just a Metal Garurumon. Like, there's a gigantic difference.
Also that I bring this detail about this specific two Digimon is that they don't even seem to be that better improvement from a regular Metal Garurumon and War Greymon. Like Metal Garurumon possesses an arsenal of Absolute Zero weapons, while Z'd has its Cannon and X-rays. SPOILERS has the Dramon Breaker, which is just the Dramon Killers but instead of slicing, is crushing. The only reason why we hyped this two was because of Digimon Next, where they say that they were made to kill God (Yggdrasil) yet they were strong because they were Mutants (they were modified in their code with the Data of Drgaon-species and Beast-species) and they didn't even killed the Final Boss, the enemy just gave up after a talk.
Merry Christmas ya schmucks! Ah we starting off with Garurumon and its thematic counterparts. So about the reason for Gabumon (reptile) to Garurumon (canine) is that Gabumon collect the fur of Garurumon specifically because Garurumon are known as ferocious beasts that can hunt and kill other Digimon who they consider prey. This aspect is highly respected by the Gabumon line who then uses the pelt data as a security blanket, allowing them to overcome their naturally timid nature by faking it and pretending to be Garurumon. It’s kinda adorable. Ah WereGarurumon. Yeah, the Digimon fans also joke that for many digimon, giving them pants, some belts, asymmetrical design and maybe a skull or skull tattoo is emblematic of early Digimon in general. Alright. Now this may be a bit contentious, but I actually agree with ya. MetalGarurumon going back to quad makes WereGarurumon weird. I actually prefer a new Digimon in CresGarurumon or a Digimon named Merukimon for WereGarurumon and would have rathered something else to branch Garurumon > MetalGarurumon quadraped line. Especially for a protagonist evolutionary line where they kinda want cohesion for toy sales. Most other times I am a “Digimon can evolve into almost anything due to environmental pressures” but it is usually protagonist connected lines where I have a sofer stance. And yeah… I agree a bit with the name thing too. i discuss why this was the case in the rant below. Time for a small rant. I believe that the reason for this disconnect was that MetalGarurumon was made for the anime and was specifically made for a Digivolving Toy series. This is why if you compare it to Gabumon, they both have the same design on their stomach/chest area. This was supposed to allow for an easy transition from a Gabumon figure to a MetalGarurumon. The Gabumon > Garurumon > WereGarurumon line was made before MetalGarurumon was even an idea. The first Vpet to include WereGarurumon was released at the same time the first episode of the original anime was released. And it ain't until episode 39 for MetalGarurumon to show up. There is even a model for WereGarurumon in the original Digimon World game where it can be hacked in with a Gameshark code. So yeah, I believe they just tacked MetalGarurumon onto an existing line, which unfortunately was less cohesive than MetalGreymon to WarGreymon. I believe MetalGarurumon X actually makes the transition from Were to Metal better, which is what I think the guest artist was going for. Zeed Garurumon (was originally Z’d Garurumon and even has Z’d on the chest, which makes it irritating that the localizers made it Zeed) refers to the fact that this is the “ultimate” superdreadnought-class weapon. Z as in final? Yeah that is all I got. EDIT: I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT. Well it is still a reference to Zed, the alternate pronunciation to Z. But I understand now why they added the two es in the middle. A digimon named Zeed Milleniummon was released WAY earlier in like 2001... and the name is Ze-e-do in Japanese. They translated it to Zeed even though it would be more correctly translated to Z'd as it is based on Z'd, the hebrew pronunciation for the world Proud. As such, when localizers saw Ze-e-do Ga-ru-ru-mo-n, they went with Zeed Garurumon as Zeed has been translated before. BUT this time they were going on wordplay for the word Zed. So its more of a minor fuck up in looking at past translations and bringing it forward. It should have been Zed Garurumon not Zeed Garurumon. Still strange when paired with Victory Greymon, but I kinda understand it more. This digimon debuted in the manga Digimon Next where a non-Gabumon line was granted this ultimate form alongside an Agumon who becomes Victory Greymon. These forms are considered anomalies and are not normal form of any line, but they are basically homages to WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon. These two were literally just manga “awesome final form” of manga protagonists. Edit: 100% agree. There are very few HD pics and only those coming off the gatchas, some video games and others are available. Don’t blame ya. I knew he’d show up eventually. Yeah meet Cres Garurumon, a form of Garurumon made for the 20th anniversary of Digimon in 2017. A new form of Garurumon, Greymon and Omnimon was created for this and they did a really good job imo. He debuted in the 20th anniversary special Vpets and was a game exclusive until he debuted in the anime sometime in 2021. Ah, WereGarurumon X. Yep. As said above, the X digimon were made as a way for guest artists to “redesign” Digimon. So they can be overdesigned to high hell (which a good amount of us find both cool and a bit too much) or underdesigned. Some hit a very nice in between spot and WereGarurumon X is a good one imo. On a note, in lore, the X antibody is pretty cool way to give them this excuse. So the main computer that runs the Digital World is named Yggdrasil and due to its godlike and cold personality can go to massive extremes in logic. The Digital World was literally running out of space in its Hard Drive and to prevent a crash, the old world would be destroyed and the data would be transferred to a new world. Aka a Hard Drive swap. To prevent the overload again, only a select 2% of the data would be transferred and 98% would be deleted by an X Virus. While this happened, a select few groups survived and was able to make it to the new world. These Digimon were mutated, but survived and gained the X antibody, which makes them stronger. The story continues with the struggles against Yggdrasil as he tried to purge the world of the “unclean” and his eventual madness from the eyes of those desperate to survive. There is a move, Digimon X Evolution which adapts the story into a visual format. Now for Gururumon… yeah this guy was like Psychemon (and evolves from Psychemon) as a way to help players distinguish Digimon that can be talked to and wild Digimon in the game Digimon World. Recolors were all basically made to help with visual gameplay design. They then made them recruitable in Digimon World 2, but it has a much more dark grey scheme and is missing those shoulder spikes. This thing got retconned to just be a “more evil” Garurumon. Funny enough, Garurumon is a play on Gururu, aka Grr, the sound a growling animal makes. Gururumon is literally the same thing, but without the wordplay. Gururmon literally became redundant as hell with Black Garurumon existing.

The reason there is a Z’d on Zeed Garurumon’s chest is because the original name is Z’d Garurumon, it was changed for the English dub to spell out Zeed Also the etymology behind Z’d Garurumon is that Z is the last letter of the alphabet and Z’d Garurumon is the final and most powerful evolution of Garurumon(kinda, it doesn’t actually evolve from a Garurumon in it’s first appearance)
Digimon only gets high resolution images if they get a new game. Or it is added to the Digimon Reference Book. Which is basically where all the cool information on various digimon is located. And a bunch of lore about the species etc etc. Only drawback is that they are slow to add more obscure and neat digimon, it literally took years for BEMmon and its line to get added. And that digimon was the villain of digimon world 3... a ps2 game lol

I belive the reason zeed Garurumon is zeed is just using English language equivalent to saying omega in this case to spice things up (that’s the feeling I get looking at etomology anyway)
To explain Zeed and Z'd Z'd is the way to pronounce it, kinda like the xblade in Kingdom Hearts is said as chiblade While Zeed is essentially from a root language that means something akin to Zenith from my undertanding
Psychmon change a lot colors for Gabumon it's evolves and reverse everything to just a slightly whiteish color on Gururumon and then he evolves again change completely on Astamon xD
I kinda think when they were making megas for MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon they just. Switched the prefixes, and then edited "Were" into "War" because Were doesn't make as much sense for a dragon guy.
"Z'd" is apparently a Hebrew phrase with particular meaning, it's odd to those familiar with modern English the same way Yahweh's originally spelling as YHWH is.
ZeedGarurumon is the english name while Z'd Garurumon is the Japanese name. It's called that because its the "last" Garurumon, it's supposed to be the most powerful of them all.
I always thought that zeed basically was digimon's 86'd. Instead of you got 86'd by garurumon, you god Z'd. But putting punctuation in a name is a bit weird so it's zeed not Z'd.
