Overnight Crockpot Porridge: Use the uncut 'porridge oats' (not instant)...along with brown sugar, raisins, cinnamon...and throw into a crockpot the night before with water and milk on low...you wake up to lovely porridge ready to eat...much healthier than instant... the recipes are all over the internet, just look it up!

Thank you for doing this series. My husband and I are pretty frugal, we are 50 and retirement is our goal. But you definitely gave me a couple of ideas on how we can change a few things. I think it's important for everyone, married or not, to be conscious of what we are spending and what we are wasting. I cleaned out my cupboards a couple of weeks ago, and was horrified at the expired food I had to throw away. Such a waste of money. I am definitely tweeking how I buy food.

Gas where I am in Canada is the equivalent of 4.33 a gallon (ours is measured in litres). Our food is also so much more pricey. Regular, non organic eggs are 3.88 a dozen, a three pack of peppers is 5.99-6.99 depending on the time of year, cucumbers are 1.99 each. Our milk is almost 4.00 for half a gallon!
@Lisa6812

So spot on about this! I watch Hillary’s videos and shake my head, lol I would LOVE to see these prices in Canada. The strawberries can be under $2... sometimes.

Nicole and Lisa, I'm just wondering how your wages compare? I find that usually higher wages exist in those places, of course not always, that have higher pricing. It is nice to see prices that others do pay though.

Hello neighbor...here in Canada where I live,... one gallon of milk costs between $4.75 (Walmart) and up to $6 per gallon at convenience stores...
@nicholemaclean1888
@nicholemaclean1888 3 года назад
@@janetta5827 there’s such a range of wages. It would vary a lot by region no doubt. We do have our health care paid for by our government and lots of social programs so it probably all equals out. Haha I just want cheaper eggs 😉 but that said we have tougher restrictions on our farms so I guess we pay for higher quality food in lots of cases.

There is not only an upfront cost for shopping services, every item is marked up 30-40% unless it is a sale in a circular so be aware that it’s much much more than $99 a year.

I returned a suitcase to the Amazon desk at Kohl’s and it was SO easy. I’m lucky that I live very close to Kohl’s. One thing to point out to people who haven’t used this service is that it is free. If I had returned the suitcase to the UPS store I think the estimate was $9.85 plus I would have to have had the box. So I love that Amazon has teamed up with Kohl’s. Selling that signed $1 on eBay for $40 was incredible! Have a good day, Hilary.

I’m so jealous of your farmer’s market prices. Here on the west coast, it is more expensive to shop at the farmer’s market. We turned a large area of our backyard into a garden, so in the summer we grow vegetables that tend to be more expensive at the grocery store. Squash (butternut, spaghetti, etc.) store in our garage all winter. I just made some butternut squash soup with a squash I grew last summer. :). Awesome eBay sale- my brother has an eBay business, and unique collectibles are the most fun items in his inventory and usually sell for top dollar.

Loved the concept of this video. It really highlighted how many little opportunities to save money pop up throughout our days. Yes it’s not always easy and yes it takes discipline but it all adds up and the rewards can be significant. We are new to eBay but have sold several records that my daughter decided to part with. It’s amazing how popular they are these days. Thanks for the inspiration. Have a lovely day 😊.

I made a huge pot of red beans and rice with ground turkey meat and 2 pans of cornbread today. Hi Hilary! We do kind of a similar thing with canned tomatoes for pizza sauce, except we use the 28 oz cans of crushed tomatoes from Aldi for our sauce and then whatever is leftover I freeze in portions in muffin tins and then place them in a ziploc bag once they're frozen. That way I pretty much always have pizza sauce handy in the freezer. It saves so much money and we prefer it over canned pizza sauce as well.

Kielbasa! I grew up (and still live) near Detroit, which had a large Polish immigrant population. I grew up on kielbasa, and so did my kids. They live out of state now, so when they and their families come visit, guess what's on the menu. The traditional way to serve it (around here) is with egg noodles, grilled onions. Some like ketchup. Purists use mustard. Yum.

Well, I haven't gone to the stores since January so Instacart was the way to go. I love that they added more stores here in Long Island because before, only rite aid was available. I wish we have Aldi but we have more Stop and Shop over here. My MIL loves it too! She even gifted us Instacart gift cards last Christmas. That's also one tip I could add- ask for gift cards to shops and places that you use often. I never get random things on Christmas or bdays. Its always gift cards to places that I frequent or local stores that I support. That's how we get massages on a regular basis. 😅

Kielbasa, the great standby, I dump every veggie I have in a pot, add garlic, basil or thyme or any spice or herb you prefer, add a can of beans, finally add chopped up kielbasa, let the pot simmer for an hour or two, pour over egg noodles or any pasta you choose, serve with homemade bread. Bet everyone has at least two bowls! You can sauté bacon before adding the veggies, adds wonderful flavor.

Oops, forgot chicken broth or water, lol. It’s supposed to be a thick soup. Guess I must be tired of the rain.
