Fantastic setup you two. After the loss of my hubby ,I downsized our big rig rv for a solo camper van the size of your jeep . It had everything in it ,even a porta loo,but no bathroom,and a sink ,gas burner x fold out bed with a soft top lift up roof gave me weeks of happy camping. So know it can be done. Thanks for great memories of those days ❤ I send you all good health to enjoy your days out,best wishes 👍as usual top class vlog☺

(...love your channel and family values.) Concerning additional storage...we installed a trailer hitch and that opened up a world of extra storage from a cargo rack that you can attach and or bike racks etc. It really opened up a lot of additional storage options. Thanks again for producing all your videos and really engaging the RU-vid community in a very family based loving environment!

What great timing you have. I was trying to explain to my husband a couple of weeks ago, how you had the Jeep packed up with everything you would need for camping across Canada. Now I can show him exactly what I was so impressed with that I wanted him to see. I think you thought of everything.

The CABINET, the SLIDER for the fridge, the FRIDGE, COUNTER on door, NESTING BINS and TUBS per need, are f a n t a s t i c !!! But the TRASHAROO just takes it over the top! CONGRATULATIONS on being the best equipped campers on the road! HAPPY TRAVELS! : )

The Trasharoo has been surprisingly useful. Compared to a lot of "Overland" setups, ours is primitive (and a lot cheaper). However, we've enjoyed the utility of our setup.

We bought a harbor freight 4x8 trailer. 249.00 on sale. Built it myself and added some side rails. Drilled and threaded the hitch =no rattling or bucking trailer. It frees up a ton of space in the car when going camping.

We just returned from the Overland Expo West in Arizona (a yearly event where you see all sorts of camping ideas), and we got to use our dual Dometic fridge and freezer - Love it. My husband built our trailer himself from drawings that he sourced. The interior is not done yet, so we really only had a camper shell and a mattress, and we are now planning our kitchen space, and you have gave me some great ideas. Thank you for sharing.

We have a 40 foot RV so that’s what I like to bring. 😏 But, when I saw the episodes with the skottle I began to seriously think about getting that to take on the road too because RV stovetops tend to be less useful due to space on the burners. If y’all had an RV, do you think you would still wish to have the skottle?
@dudelum
@dudelum 6 лет назад
Wow. I could get used to RV life ☺️ As for the Skottle, it's quite a bit different from cooking on any stovetop. Being able to grill and fry on a large surface is pretty nice to have. Also, cooking on the skottle would keep the food smells out of your RV living space. Just saying 😷
@PaullaWells
@PaullaWells 6 лет назад
Dude, that’s true about the smell. I had not been able to justify the cost as of yet but now I can thanks to you. I can tell cooking on the skottle would be a learning curve indeed. Perhaps you and Flo wouldn’t mind doing a few recipes/episodes focused solely on learning to use it? I watched your travel episodes and loved what I saw made on it on those. I’d be ever grateful for a few tutorials.
@FloLum
@FloLum 6 лет назад
I quite enjoy the skottle. We use it a home instead of a grill. Way more surface area to cook on compared to our camping stove and I also find it heats up way faster than the pots.
@PaullaWells
@PaullaWells 6 лет назад
Oh and yes. RV life is a sweet way to travel. You can rent them so if you want to try it that might be an option.

Flo, now I’m super interested in getting one. If I order one, would you show me/us how to use and care for one?
@DeVerm123
@DeVerm123 6 лет назад
The skottel is from South Africa. They call it a "skottel braai" and a "braai" is a grill. Skottel is Afrikaans (in modern Dutch it is "schotel") for a large dish, i.e. exactly like the shape.

Flo, this is VERY nit-picky, but you called your vegetable peeler a potato peeler. It is a handy device for peeling things like carrots and cucumbers, but potatoes are meant to be enjoyed along with their skin, because the skin is where the flavor comes from. If you'll stop peeling potatoes altogether and simply scrub them before use, you won't regret it. If you 'absolutely must have' mashed potatoes, then roughly mash the cooked, unpeeled potatoes with your fork, on your plate.
@FloLum
@FloLum 5 лет назад
I'll forgive you for being nit-picky because you gave me a good laugh in a comment in another video. 😉 I grew up with it being called a potato peeler, but you're right... I usually keep the skin on my potatoes too and use the "vegetable" peeler only for carrots and yams.

Did you disconnect when you were staying at the college? Do you bring a battery backup? I would be nervous about not being able to start the car all because of a drained battery.
@dudelum
@dudelum 6 лет назад
The fridge is on 24/7. While we were on the road, we were never in one place for more than 12 hours without starting the Jeep. We have a compact Lithium ion jump starter that's worked very well. Also, when the fridge is packed full, it doesn't work as hard to maintain target temperature. Modern 12v fridges have built-in electronics that will turn the fridge off before draining the starter battery.

So far, we haven't been at a camp site for more than 24hrs without driving the Jeep. Hence not needing a dual battery setup...yet. I ordered it from a US supplier and had it shipped just across the border. I think Epic Adventure Outfitters in Surrey BC started carrying the Trailgaters locally.

It was driving me nuts. Your face, your voice, your speech cadence and expressions. I was like...I've seen this person...who is she? But no, it's just that you are a twin of Lan from America's Test Kitchen.

🤣 I’ve had several viewers who have asked if I was her.

If you haven’t seen this already, check out Trail Recon’s LED light strip for the rear hatch...pretty cool and pretty cheap and easy mod that may prove really helpful. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P2RI8fl0a5I.html

its a good presentation and I learned a lot of useful info. I just want to give a little constructive critique... IMHO, try to refrain from using the word "my" with every item you describe or present. it's actually redundant because each item is obviously yours, so there really isn't any reason to keep saying "my" with each one... again, take this constructively... no offense meant. Keep up the good work!

Why didnt you use paper plates? More convenient to just throw away and not have to deal with washing dishes.
