Mine are 10 and 11 and they take a turn every month cooking a meal. I supervise and step in if I need to but they run it. I never was taught life skills and as much as I love my parents they failed in that regard. I want to do better for our kids.

Wow. Such a humbling moment for me as a mom. My mom took on the bulk of everything, and I have kind of followed suit. For example, we didn't do any laundry until after we graduated highschool. I have a 17 and 14 year old and I still do all of the laundry. My mom always said, "let them be kids for as long as they can be kids." I understand where she was coming from, but I think alot of stress could have been taken off of her if more chores had been delegated to me and my siblings. How would you suggest starting these things with older teens who haven't had those responsibilities?

Great video! Have you considered opening a custodial Roth for you daughter since she’s working now? Investing at her age will be HUGE for her future ♥️ the minute my kids start working, my plan is to open a custodial Roth for them and I’m going to match whatever they put I. Finance nerd over here 😉

I love the idea of teaching them a full meal 👌🏻. I’ve let my kid pay with my debit card for a while now and also let him take the money out of the ATM and people look at me weird 😅

Ooooo i love this because shamefully I still don’t know basic things. That’s not on my parents or their fault, it’s the system they thought they could trust when they were working crazy hours and I barely even saw them so they could make ends meet. I have a lot to learn so I can teach my children. Who knows maybe Jesus is coming before then! Lol jk but still I have a lot of work to do.

Yes!! I agree 100%! My children who graduated from a HS, they had no idea how to fill out those deposit bank slips. I was quite surprised! I learned how to do all of that, even to fill out the form for income tax.

As a mom of a 3.5-year-old and an 18-month-old, this gives me so much hope for the future! I love serving my family, but it will definitely be nice to have some things handed over to them as they get older.

I’m trying so hard to NOT listen to that clock in my head but with a junior in high school now, I’m freaking out all while trying to not show my freak out to my children😂 Trying so hard to live day to day and just enjoy the time I have left. My oldest is applying for her first job today and I’m freaking out but it’s a good step for her to prepare her for the world🩵

Yes that was me, just thrown out there into the world. I didn’t even know how to boil water… my husband taught me how to cook.🤭 love the Sunday cooking a meal idea.

Yes! How to manage a home & keep up w/ cleaning was never something taught well growing up. My SIL & I were just discussing this the other day, and how we were never taught-so it’s been a struggle since having children to keep up & to be diligent in teaching our children. She & I both definitely get the overwhelm paralysis. Plus how would you handle do I ding up chores with a smaller family? Example: family of 4 w/ lower Elementary & middle school children. (Youngest has a bad attitude toward it, oldest doesn’t)

THANK YOU for this video! This is a topic not talked about enough. I have a 20 yo (only public schooled) and then my youngest kids 12 and 8 (homeschooled). Humbling moment when our oldest didn’t know the proper way to address and envelope when leaving for the military. He called the stamp a sticker! 😅😂 It was funny yet made me realize I had dropped the ball with teaching life skills. Hard lesson learned for me!

My girls have homeschool classes at a church on Thursdays so I have been having my oldest (12) make supper. I am always so tired and behind after running errands/chatting. She burned pancakes today and cried.. but at least she is learning now and not when she is 19 😂

Thanks for the video! One thing that I can recommend for your older kids is teaching them about credit cards and possibly co-signing on one with a very small limit to help build her credit. My parents did this with me when I was at the end of high school and taught me how to not abuse credit (buy something, pay it off within 2 months, etc), but build my credit up so that when I needed to rent an apartment or something like that, I had some credit established. I hate how the credit score system works, but it is a reality that we have to learn to live and manage!

Awesome video! Love this video! We may start back paying allowance to our only child who is 12. We stopped because we saw it as being a part of the family to take care of the home. No comparison, just sharing.

off topic. But where did you get those latch bins for your kids school. I can’t remember what episode I saw that in but I checked Michaels and did not see it.
