Our Longest Day Ride Ever on the Paiute Trail.

Our goal was to do the entire upper "half" of the Paiute Trail 01 loop from Marysvale Utah back to Marysvale Utah in our Can Am Maverick Trail. This is by far our longest ever day ride, but it needed to be done for several reasons. One reason is to fill in missing sections of the trail on my map that I haven't seen. Another reason is for "research" for a possible plan for next year. And finally, it was a challenge that needed to be faced, why not ?

After seeing your videos a few years ago, I checked out the Paiute trail system at Marysvale. Been there three times already. Since I moved to Kanab Utah a couple years ago, Marysvale is only a couple hours away now. Now any time friends or family really want some ATV adventures, I blow them away with the Paiute trail system. My personal favorite so far is Monroe Peak! Thanks a million for turning me on to this! 👏🏻👍🏻😉

This is a nice ride. I set up a ride for some folks from Kansas that took in a bunch of this ride. I pre rode it for them so i knew if their machines would fit on the trails. Their machines were wider than the 50s so i had to do a few work arounds for them. They all had a great time. I wish i was good with a camera, I could have had a great video to show also. I enjoy your work. Maybe I'll see you down here sometime. Steve

Enjoyed watching! Yes that was a long day. We’ve never been during fall, it was very beautiful. I’d have to check our maps to see if we’ve covered your route. We’ve always enjoyed going up that section out of Fremont too.

There are a few of them around here these days. Right in Marysvale is Lizzy and Charlies and right close is South Forty. Just don't swing a dead cat or you may hit one. Richfield has a few now. Joseph has one. Probably just easier to type in RV parks near Richfield Utah and there is a bunch. Come on down and enjoy. I believe all gates are open after June 1st.

A beautiful video for an epic ride!! I always enjoy your videos and have used them in part to inspire our purchase this fall of our own "new-to-us" Maverick Trail. Thank you for all the time and work you put into putting these together! My wife and I are looking forward to visiting a bunch of what you have done, as we are based out of Boise, ID. Before it got really cold we only managed yet to ride the Idaho City area and then a bunch of 50" trails outside of Jerome around what would be the Magic Mountain ski area in the winter. Both of our outings went very well. These truly are very capable machines! I have what is probably a very ignorant question ...how much time to you spend in 4LOW? ...these machines are so capable, we have yet to come across anything (atleast in the dry conditions we were out in) where I felt compelled to not be in 4 high. ....It's really quite remarkable what can be done in these in 2wd without even braking loose. ....they really climb like billygoats, but I don't want to abuse the transmission either. On this trip, were you in 4low at any point say in the first 50 miles where it looked more technical at times?! Thanks! ...my wife really enjoys that your wife drives as much as she does. My wife enjoys driving ours as well, in fact I picked up a used quad to chase her around with for times where we are alone and/or I just want to be able to drive more.

That's awesome ! Congratulations on your new (to you) MT 👍 If your on Facebook and your not already a member, you should check out the Can-Am Maverick Trail Facebook group. Lots of fellow owners in your area. The "Limp Mode" group they call themselves. 👍 My basic rule of thumb for low range is, if I'm going less than 12-15 mph for an extended period of time I'll use low, unless it's down hill or even just a level cruise. Our rule on the Paiute Trail is easy. When we go through a 50 inch gate onto a 50 inch trail we put it in low and 4WD. Most 50 inch trails there are fairly tight and slow moving anyway, and we're in no big hurry, so low range is perfect. Once we go through the gate and out the other side it's back into high and 2WD. In that video we were in low going down the 50 inch section of the Max Reid, and going up that rocky 50 inch section up from Freemont, everything else was in high. We are probably in high 99% of the time. Biggest thing you have to worry about is your belt. It takes a certain rpm (not sure exactly what rpm) to engage the primary clutch fully. If your going slow enough that your clutch isn't fully engaged it's just slipping, that will kill a belt pretty quickly, so it's more about how much work you are putting on your belt based on engine rpm's. I usually just err on the side of caution. I'll even stop, switch to low thru a rocky section, then switch back to high when I'm through it. When we're pulling out little trailer behind we use low a lot more. I hope that helps 👍

Great video as always! I'm always excited to see what fun adventure you have captured and shared. I'm also sad that it is the last one of the year, but I understand the time and effort that goes into these. A true labor of love and I am happy you share with all of us. I assume that 10 hors of engine time over 184 miles means an average speed of 18mph. If you can remember or look up, what was the fastest you travelled on this trip? Rob
@MyATVlife
@MyATVlife Год назад
Going back thru my Avenza tracks, depending on the section, our average is between 15-20 mph with a max speed of 42mph. A lot of those big open sections you can make up pretty good time. I don't spend a lot of time above 40mph, I'm most comfortable between 35 and 40, but that on the big open sections, but yeah, roughly 18 mph average. Many slow and rocky sections going slow and lots of wide open spaces going fast. 👍

@@MyATVlife Great info as always! I have another question about this years trip: I know that you have addressed this on last years video that was all about the Piaute, what would you think the gates are at for actual width? I know you have a new wheel/tire setup this year and were concerned about squeaking through the gates. My stock width was less than 50" but I feel that I am somewhere less than 52" now with wheels and tires. I'm not sure of the actual width. I really need to check my actual measurements now. I spent time growing up in Moab, but I've never been down to the Paiute trail system. Thanks as always
@MyATVlife
@MyATVlife Год назад
I've heard the new gates that they're putting in are 53 inches, but I've never measured one. I am 52.5 inches now and I still fit, but barely.

@@MyATVlife Thank you! I appreciate all that you do for us novices! I'm prepping a buggy and want to build a light overland trailer to spend more time in the wild. While riding in Wyoming this summer, I told my wife "I want to wake up right here sometime in the future" To make that happen, we need to haul more than I can carry on my buggy. I have watched and rewatched your trips with your trailer. Also great info. Makes me feel like a good long overlanding trip is doable.

Thanks for sharing and for the beautiful scenery. I need new tires for next season, so you like the 14” and 30” tires? Did you also do a new spare? Tim We are presently serving an LDS Mission at Heber Valley Girls Camp, East of Heber City at 7500’ elevation and are on the mountain from April to October. I put approximately 2000 miles on my machine. How much overall height did you gain, I have an enclosed trailer?
@MyATVlife
@MyATVlife Год назад
I gained just over 1 inch in height from my 27 inch tires. These aren't 30 inch tires, they are a 29x9-14 Tusk Terrabite. I've put about 1000 miles on them so far and I love them. I've always been a Terrabite fan. Got 5,000 miles out of my last set 👍. I kept the 27 inch spare cuz I'm cheap. Plus I can unlock my rear diff if I need to put the spare on the rear or go in 2WD if I need to run it on the front. Plus I didn't want to add more weight to the tire carrier.

If the gates are really tight and tires rub.. inflate up the tires then spray WD40 the outside of the tires... soak them good and slid through.
