Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

I’m a retired CPA and have helped a number of families with transition planning. So glad you are pro-active. No one likes to think about change, but the smartest families are those who address change head on. In today’s world a lot of people don’t understand the magnitude of transition. They don’t understand farming and they often are not considerate of all family members needs. Sure you can just “buy the farm”, but where will potentially millions of dollars come from? By the way the IRS probably doesn’t know anything about farming either. One thing to remember for sure is a family farm (business) is always blessed when the next generation wants to continue running the family heirloom. God Bless!
@turnerg
@turnerg Год назад
Honestly, I dont think families should be taxed for wanting to continue farming family land, the only time the farm should be taxed is if it is being sold and not inherited.

@tysleight
@tysleight Год назад
@@turnerg you could say the same thing about every monetary transactions. Farms are just businesses at the end of the day. If you do it for one type of business, it's only fair to do it to all. That's how you get dynasties. That buy up everything and make entry impossible for any other person.
@turnerg

I don't understand transitions on the whole, a farm or any other business is taxed when ever they sell product, the property is taxed, the equipment is taxed. To think that the government will go and tax everything again because another family member has taken control of the operation to me is a travesty.

The FIRST thing you learn is how NOT to let the massively overly bloated government take 70% of it either death tax or transition taxes. The dumbest thing to do is BUY it out. Say I’m giving my son my car. I’m going to transition ownership to him for $1 at the Notary, title switched over, papers signed, done. $1. Now, if he BOUGHT my car for the appraisal price of the car, he’d be paying the same taxes-but at a much higher rate, then I already paid on that car. I didn’t raise my son to be an idiot. The last thing we want to do is shell out more cash for our govt to blow on researching methane levels of unicorn farts

Zach... First, I know zero about farming, but I have watched enough of your videos where you have wondered which size pin was needed for a given piece of equipment. Might I suggest using a color code system. I'm not sure how many colors you would need to paint the pins and the tow eyelet for each implement but it might take the wondering out of play. When I was in the Army as a heavy truck driver it was pretty simple air hoses were red and I think white or yellow on the ends of the hoses if my memory from 30 years ago serves me. The electrical cables for the lights didn't have a color as they were the same for all towed trailers it was a universal light cable. Civilian trailers use different cable connectors for the lights I think.
