As a self employed heavy equipment mechanic, i take pride in showing my customers the pile of left over brackets, and nuts/bolts. Let em know how much time i saved them by not installing all that needless shit.
@@zakburnett6690 It depends entirely on the machine. Had a Wacker Neuson that wanted the handle down at all times. Kubotas want the handle up to start and then down to run, pretty sure CAT and Komatsu are the same way. Not sure about much else.
I was a shovel holder a long time before I ever got on a machine but now I’ve been on and off of all sorts of grading and excavating equipment for decades. I’m old!

Get good on a skiddy and you can run any piece of dirt equipment after you get "bucket feel". That's when you can tell how much down force you put on the implement ( for example, the bucket or blade" just by the feeling and feedback the equipment gives you.

Never set out & never use a laser. Customers will presume you've just started in the business & you've no clue as to what you're doing. Also, hands on is always the best way to learn. Finally, im sure you eventually got round to collapsing a few of your tranches. Please show this is future vids!
I have been a multi-skilled machine operator, tracked and tire excavator, road rail and spider excavator, wheel loader, bulldozer for 25 years. If it's really his first time, I have a hard time believing it, but if it's really true, he should be left on a machine, that's obvious.
We've let the home owners on 1 job dick around in both our tracked skidsteer and 5 ton excavator. Husband was jealous his wife got to run the excavator before him.
Practice. There are schools that teach you. I bet you'd be better off learning from a company. Find a boomer that tried to retire and then went and bought back some equipment to keep busy. Work for them and pester them with questions then work without complaints.
