Our son had to make a very awkward tight right turn with a combine which was pulling its header. He signalled and stopped before he attempted the turn to go right but had to make his turn starting from the left lane. There was a vehicle behind him that he saw in the mirror and his sense was that the vehicle was slowing down to stop. As he started his turn the vehicle hit the feeder house of the combine. The accident caused a fatality. Thankfully the police investigation did not find him at fault. We know the family of the deceased man and they were very gracious but our son has not been the same since then. Please please give farmers and truckers etc. the time and space they need to operate safely. This one split second event forever changed the lives of so many.

I remember 30 years ago someone was driving a CAT 966 on the highway for a short distance and was going to make a left hand turn. Some guy in a van went to pass him and collided with the loaders front tire. the engine of the van ended up by the back doors of it and it popped the beam off the tire on the loader. Heavy machinery is painted yellow for a reason. It means to be cautious around it because it can hurt you without trying.

Brian, I notice you’ve got a pair of beacons on your floater. I run a lot of miles in machines, I only run beacons on the road. Never 4 ways. That way when the signals come on people actually pay attention to them. It’s helped cut my close calls down a lot!

Shops are always built too small. Leave a plan for expansion. I personally never had shop to call my own. I did a lot for a bachelor neighbor and he in exchange allowed me to use it occasionally. Later in my life did same for an elderly repair shop owner he wanted me to weld for him on certain repairs. He in return would let me use it on my own projects if I didn't toe space up for too long

Have you looked into a rain collection tank for the power washing bay? It can be underground if worried about freezing. It could be a good addition to take some pressure off your well.

I had a moron pass me when I was pulling a load of granite on my triple axle gooseneck behind my F-350 back in 1996. He passed me then immediately stopped to turn left. This was in the mountains in north Georgia. I had to lock down the tailer brakes and stand on the truck brakes and barely missed him then! I flat spotted 12 brand new tires burned up the brakes on the truck and the trailer and even cracked the front rotors on my truck. Right at $3,000 dollars to repair the damage some damn idiot caused because he couldn't stand to wait behind me a few more seconds.

Good morning. Been hauling Anhydrous Ammonia into New Holland Ohio at Coalliance. People pulling out past a stop sign during my turn,great I'm blocking the intersection and my hood is dead center of your lane,backup. I'll pull over using the shoulder and let people pass. Wilmington & South Charleston are bout done knifing in Ammonia.

I hope your concrete guys know how to slope the threshold for a large shop door. So many shops have water just our in under the door because they don't use a pocket or slope out at all. Drop at least 1 inch from just inside the door to the outer edge, roughly 12 inches in from the edge of the slab.

Your tip about taking the entire road when making a left turn with a piece of equipment was spot on. I learned that trick myself operating the manure spreader and silage boxes we run that are way too large to see around.

When i was taking lessons for the truck (is that called CDL over in the Usa?). My teacher hammered on "do not leave a space where a car csn fit trough when manouvring, cuz they will take it, thats when accidents happen". So im with you guys. Protect idiot drivers from themselfses

The Deere might be an inch off but has all its tires and still working. The Fendt is a trike right now 😂😂. With all the new technology they all have trouble usually something electrical.

I feel you with people passing when you are trying to make a left turn. I had them pass me when I have pulled into the left lane & thought I hadn't left enough room for anybody to get by & They have damn near drove into the ditch to get by. It doesn't seem to matter how many flashers & strobes & turn signals you have either, they still pass you.

Great to see the shop get delivered. I suspect you will see a major increase in productivity, if for no other reason, you can concentrate your logistical items in one place. It seems you are always back and forth between the home place and the two bin sites. This should lessen the equipment shuffles as well as just giving you a big enough place to do work inside and environmentally controlled. I look forward to seeing it come together. Also, good to see the house trusses come in. It will be amazing how fast it will start looking like a house now. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate to give some progress on the buildings and the fields but it looks like its going to stay on the cool side for a couple of weeks, so planting windows will be scarce.

11:07 We have a friend who had a car bounce of his tractor front tire cuz why would you look the flashing yellow thingis at the and of the trailers. And an other friend kinda new tractor front axle did get out, after a lady used it as a stoping ram, he did turn too. The amount of time I had my trailer(with almost 12 tonne wet corn) wheels smoke from braking because people don't have time, many, so many.

I had two cars pass me one time pulling three wagon when we finished a farm going in to the right , I swung in to the center line of two lanes and they passed me on the right berm . As I started throw the turn I was standing up and was looking to the right and saw them coming and had to stop fast half way throw the turn almost wiping out the cars ! ! !

That new shop is going to very nice. My neighbor built a big shop he has a 38’ overhead door he can’t leave it open other than to drive in or drive out it sags to much. You are probably putting in a big hydraulic door like an airplane hanger. Just letting you know I was told if you go over 32’ on a overhead door it will sag

When my Dad had the farm, we rented land about a mile down the road from home. The road was a more heavily traveled road, particularly in the morning and later afternoon. running over the tractor with tillage and planter was not so rough. but the really scary trip was bring back wagons of hay, There was no way to add mirrors to the tractor or, back then, tractors did not come lights, hazard or otherwise. I would start moving over to the very center of the road at least the length of a football field before I got to the driveway.

Good luck on the building. Concrete it is all about the mix design the reinforcement design the base designFinally having skilled installers to implement it correctly. If it is a concern about slab capacity. then. Best practice you involve a soils and testing company. If a concern to be done right. (Edit). Question may be the perimeter having a turned down foundation for frost.

PS: Also, it's a slab, not an upper-floor floor. It doesn't have to hold up the weight between spans; it only has to spread it over enough ground surface so it doesn't sink in.

The slab will have a greater live load than that building would apply to it. Have you seen the size of the equipment they operate?

It's seems to me that people don't notice the left turn flashing when the 4 way flashers have been on. Lately I've been turning off the 4 ways well ahead of making my turn. When the left turn flashers come on, it seems to be noticed. I've had way too many instances such as you showed there Brian. My nerves are about shot. Good luck with the season ahead!

Yes whenever tuning, it doesn't matter what turn signals are working, no one seems to see then. I get this all the time driving trucks and trailer units. All they want to do is get in front.

When you are doing soil tests u should always use the Morgan test. Tells you the availability of nutrients to the plant.

Only thing I would consider is putting sand over the infloor tubes. Don’t need much 1” or so. Maybe alittle more. That way if the concrete cracks over time it will float on the sand and won’t be pulling on your tubes.

I deal with the same thing on a daily basis hauling silage in a semi they see you slowing down for turns going down a hill or through s curves and think hell with it and go any way not realizing I'll turn them into a greasy spot in the road

Mother Deere is protecting her youngins Brian,,,, 😂😂😂 I have a question! Why did y’all choose wood and steel instead of all steel? I’ve never seen steel rafters and wood uprights and wood purlin. I am super curious. Wood isn’t even an option in my part of the world. Neither is floor heat or insulation because well, that shit goes everywhere with the barn when a tornado takes it away! But seriously, it’s hot way more then it’s cold here.
