Love this reaction. ✌I love The Spinners!! This song is so fun! I was working in NYC when this song came out. My supervisor looked exactly like Philippe` Wynne, the lead singer. At our Christmas party, boss got up and danced to this song. Such fun music back then. Hope you do more Spinners music. Also, please do some Ohio Players music. Thank you.
Yes, I remember this song. I do like this song, but I have to say my favorite song from The Spinners is Sadie. I also love their song, Love don't love nobody. I have to admit they were doing it with the dance moves and let's not forget the outfits. That's what I loved about the groups back in the days. Very entertaining. Hey Ky and Nick, check out the group The Miracles song Love Machine. That was the song back then, not to mention their outfits. Great reaction.
The Spinners were great back in the day. "Sadie" is a great ballad and a kind of Mother's Day song. "I'll Be Around", "Mighty Love", "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love", and "One of a Kind" are some good ones to check out.
Incredibly underrated, the Spinners tend to get forgotten about, but they were easily one of the top acts of the 70's with so many great hits, don't sleep on the Spinners.
The lead singer Philippé Wynne left The Spinners in 1977 to pursue a solo career, teaming with George Clinton and the Parliament/Funkadelic crew. George is the OG starting out in the 50's himself after being influenced by Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers. He started a Doo-Wop group called The Parliaments and was a part-time hair-dresser. That should sound like foreshadowing if you know anything about George or Parliament-Funkadelic. Wynne was one the greats recruited into the P-Funk collective by George and was prominent on the 1979 Funkadelic hit (Not Just) Knee Deep. Other notable P-Funk members include Bootsy & Catfish Collins (from James Brown's band the JB's), Fred Wesley (trombone) & Maceo Parker (sax) also from the JB's, Junie Morrison from The Ohio Players, Sly Stone, Glenn Goins, and ultimately Roger Trautman from Zapp & Roger, although tragedy happened before the fruits of collaborating with Roger reflected in P-Funk. Sadly Philippe Wynne suffered a heart attack while performing at a nightclub in Oakland, California on July 13, 1984. He died the next day, at the age of 43. RIP Phillippe! Thanks for all the music.
It's kind of clever wordplay. In the first half of the song he is singing about "The Rubber Band, Man", and then later on he is singing about "The Rubberband Man".
I saw the Spinners live in maybe like 1971 but could been 72 or even 73 anyway Four bands played that nite for the price of one ticket The Spinners The Ike and Tina Revue The Staple Singers Jazz Crusaders Great nite Great days
What is the meaning of Rubberband Man? Co-written by the song's producer, Thom Bell, and Linda Creed, “The Rubberband Man” was actually penned about Bell's son, who was overweight and had found himself being teased by his classmates as a result.
