Great video my westie would never pass the test he weights 11.5-12 kg he’s big for a Westie. He’s 13 and a diabetic since he was 8. I give him insulin shots 2 X day. We also went blind within 6 months of getting diabetes diagnosis but we paid a vet eye surgeon to have them removed. He sees perfectly! I had to laugh at the part about Samie not eating his kibble unless there was home cooked food on it…must be a Westie trait. My Winston is on Prescription food. Very important he eats his meals with diabetes but I also have to Watch what I give him.
Yes, Westie males are normally heavier than Sami is. I guess he is on the small side 😅 Oh, I am sorry about the diabetes, but I am glad Winston has such a good mom to take care of him ❤
Sami is so sweet and adorable. I pray for his safe, healthy and fun trip to Greece . I would let him in the cabin of airplane. Never , never in storage of plane .
My Brother flew with his Westie cargo cause he’s 23 pounds( all muscle) and he did great the staff was amazing with him and the vet gave him a little sedative! We were worried , but it was all a positive experience!
I have a Westie as well. They are absolutely scrumptious and wonderful dogs! Just one gentle recommendation; why don't you try a carrot-shaped tail the next time - it's adorable!

2 days ago I traveled with my yorkie from Mexico City to Amsterdam . I was a bit nervous Becuase my dog is almost 7kg and similar size as yours . For some reason at the check in counter the man didn’t even looked at my dog inside the bag , weighted the kennel or measure it 🙄. I believe any flight attendant even noticed I had a dog with me . Thanks a lot for your tips ! I also gave my yorkie a short hair cut so he wouldn’t look fluffier 😅
I'm in the same situation as you. My dog weighs 7.5 kg and her bag weighs 1 kg. I removed the bottom of the bag. The weight of the carrier has been reduced to 0.8 kg which together with the dog is still over 8 kg. We will be flying in 2 days. I expect we will be lucky and the staff will compromise with our dog.
Just found your videos and very informative and detailed to the last thing only an owner would think about I have owned Westies before but now have a dashound which I rescued at 12 months old now 7yrd old I’m British but have lived in Florida caring for my mother last 8 years but she recently passed away and now planning to return to England In October flying from Miami to Paris then train or car to England as flying directly to England all dogs need to be in cargo. Air France in cabin allowed Margot my dog is similar weight to Sami and I’m so nervous never flown with her before and the size of carrier the airline requires seems small in height . So confusing on line whether they should be able to stand or not and where to measure your dog Your videos have reassured me a little now I’m going to look for a soft carrier. Hi Valerie, I know that flying in and out of the UK doesn't allow dogs in the cabin. I have a Westie and i have to get her paperwork right so i can bring her to NY from the dominican republic been going through so many videos to feel prepared for my first flight with her. i’m so scared but hopefully everything goes well.
I'm sure it will all be ok, I think the paperwork is the trickiest part, so as long as you are prepared with everything they say is needed, it'll be good! ☺ Sami will have his first intercontinental flight next year so I'm also a bit nervous and have some paperwork to prepare. Good luck!!
I’m having a hard time finding a bag for my dog, the airline allows dogs up to 33 pounds, and with a diet she’ll be right on point but a carrier for that size is impossible to find 😓
It’s so nerve wracking whether they will weigh or not even when you know they are within the limit! Try Vueling next time, they allow up to 10kg so Sami would have no problems at all, they even let my fat butt on 😂
Comment, I worked at a senior level in a major airline, as the customer, you could demand to see the captain, as the responsibility for the aircraft and contents is HIS sole responsibly, NOT some irascible crew member. It is his decision to allow you to fly.
You recommend that at the time of check-in. Does the dog stay out of his kennel? I have a 4-month-old puppy and he is like yours. I travel through AA , can turn around but not stand
Hello Miruna: I love your channel and I love Sami (actually he was the one who make me decide I wanted a Westie and my Trasto, 9 months old, looks just like him). I would like to know what was Sami’s weight when you when to Greece. We’re travelling to Marbella from París next February. Right know Trasto is almos 7 kgs. The veterinarian doesn’t thinks he’s gonna grew much although he will probably get corpulence. Thank you
Hello Amelia, wow, that is absolutely amazing ❤ It makes me happy to hear! Sami was also almost around 7 kg or less when he was Trasto's age (first time we flew with him he was 7 months old). In this video I think he weighed 7.5 kg, which is his usual flying weight haha (normally he weighs 7.80 kg but we diet a little before flights and restrict water intake 2-3 hours before checking in). I wish you good luck on Trasto's first flight! (we are traveling to Paris soon!) 😍

Can I ask which airline you flew with? I flew with my 1.6kg chihuahua at Christmas. I flew one way with KLM & the return with Swiss. Neither airline permitted me to open the top of the carrier so my tiny dog was never able to put her head out of the bag at any time during the flight😢
Sorry that they didn't let her out at all, especially considering how small she is. That sucks. I flew with Aegean so far, but we will fly with Delta next month and see how it is. So far, I always opened both the top and the front of the bag and as you could see, Sami laid on the floor during the flight 😅 I honestly never asked for permission beforehand and even though the staff saw, none ever said anything. Sami also helped by not making a sound, he didn't bother anyone, so it was a win-win ☺

@@RubyTheToyFoxTerrier hey! I have a smooth to. Terrier he is 8.5 kg. What is your route? And how much does your dog weight? I’ve had many good and bad experiences. It’s definitely harder to get out of Europe as they check everything. I’m America I never had a problem, no one I’ve had checked the weight of my dog or size of the carrier.

Hi, sorry for the delayed response! 🙈 He fits, but when he stands up his head is down, because he is too tall for the bag (this was the maximum size bag I could find). So if they ever ask to see him stand, they wouldn't be happy. He can turn around, though. Also, when doing the check in, I don't keep Sami in the bag and they never ask to see him inside the bag, so nobody can tell.

Noo 😂I see how it could look that way. No, she cleaned the plaque off his teeth. She does it 2-3 times per year, using that tool, it's quick and painless and because Sami is so calm, there is no need to put him under for the procedure (like most vets do when teeth cleaning) 😁
Oh my I was wondering the same thing! 😂 did he shiver when you went up in the air. My morkie is so super nervous when the engine starts and he feels the change in altitude. I am currently trying CBD oil to calm him down . 🤞🏽
