@@TheQuantifiedScientist idk if that is a compliment. The price is garbage, like the ring. I want source code for that price. The website looks like it’s hiding things. Is the ring Bluetooth? That would suck and be really energy hungry. The dock could be Bluetooth but the ring should be NFC.

Apparently they have been around for some time and have a huge list of professional clients. It would be pretty cool to see how it holds out in your lab. Will you be comparing other biofeedback devices such as the Sensate Pebble as well as brain wave scanners like muse 2 or muse S with other similar devices? Wonderful channel. Dr Great video. Now one question is most of Smart watches which has ECG measuring function only pdetects Heart Rate variability and also for this, the user has to put one of his Finger on top. Of smart watches or on top. Electrode to close the cycle and get a ECG/ Heart rate variability on demand. Ie user has to do manually each time to get Heart rate variability and ECG But on Oura Ring and also on Polar 10 Patch, how cone a continuous Heart Rate variability is obtained without using 3rd electrode n that too without keeping a finger on it?. Is the Tech used in Oura Ring and Ploar 10 is totally different from other smart watches tech used including Apple watches and Samsung galaxy watch? I kindly request you to give me a detailed reply sir on this tech used Life from. INDIA Thanks n regards

I've seen 3/4 videos and I have to say: finally some calculations about the performance of these devices, and great videos too🔝 I have a curiosity about the heart rate sensor: is it good the one incorporated by Fitbit, Xiaomi Mi Band and in general the fitness bands? Is at least somewhat accurate the heart rate number they give?
@TheQuantifiedScientist
@TheQuantifiedScientist 4 года назад
Wow, thanks Luigi! So, in my experience most of them are decent at tracking HR, though some tend to have some bias. I have not quantified this (yet), but my FitBit seems to be a bit low sometimes. However, the technology behind measuring HR on the wrist is quite advanced by now, so most will at least give a good indication. Though there will be some bad apples in there, so if you are looking for a specific device, generally a well established brand is a safer choice I would think. Anyhow, these are just my first thoughts, hope it answers your question!

@@TheQuantifiedScientist Thanks for the informations, man😉 It would be really cool if you would be able to quantify something like the Mi band 4/5, which are by far the most bought wearable in the world, but the Fitbit would be ok too, I think they're quite similar even if the price range is somewhat different. Oh, of course you have a new subscriber, I'm currently doing my specialization in statistics but for economics, and watching a "mad scientist" like you who measured the self-reported stress for 3 years straight is awesome ahah, great stuff!

Great video! Do you know any wearable (strap with ecg or somethings like that) which can be used to get ECG 24/7 with good resolution (to process raw data for HRV analysis etc) and can work offline for a few days and then sync to phone/cloud over BLE and then export raw ecg data? Right now i'm using polar h10 with Elite HRV, but there is few problems - the hrv app sometimes restarted and loses recordings, and the most thing to worry with polar is permanentl bluetooth signal emmitting near my hearth and that can be dangeroues for health. So i'm looking for offline solution, maybe you know something? Thanks
@TheQuantifiedScientist
@TheQuantifiedScientist 4 года назад
Hi Max, I have to say I am not sure. There are all sort of devices being developed now to continuously measure ECG signals, but I have no experience with their reliability. For example, with a quick google search I found: www.welchallyn.com/en/products/categories/cardiopulmonary/wearable-ecg-monitors/tagecg-wearable-ecg-sensor.html ; www.vivalnk.com/ecg-monitor ; www.amazon.co.uk/EKG-Heart-Rate-Monitor-Electrocardiograph/dp/B073VW2ZZV . But as I said, no experience with these :-). What is your goal with the measurements? Thanks for commenting!
@quantifiedmax
@quantifiedmax 4 года назад
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Thanks for asnwer! TAGecg sensor looks good, but "A/D Sampling Rate: 250 Hz" are you sure it is enough for good ECG quality? As i'm aware most ppl recommending at least 500Hz with a better choise of 1000Hz. Vivalnk's "ECG: 128 Hz" seems to be not enough too... The one from amazon is 200 Hz. So right now my polar h10 beats them with 1000Hz sample rate, but there is no way to get raw ECG data from sensor, because it not stored... My main goal is to increase lognevity & lifespan. (You can begin with David Sinclair's book if you interested, then deep more into mTOR, AMPK, SIRT, fasting - Valter Lungo, Autophagy induction - Guido Kroemer etc). One of the key thing is to monitor some of self data, check where it goes, what to work on etc. CVD diseases are biggest reason of people dying on our planet, so for now i'm focusing on getting detailed monitoring my heart data, which can analysed, processed and be shared with doctors. Also during collecting some data (i'm collecting food & nutrients, drink, toilet actions, gym excercises, stress, mood - 100+ events per day, and some 3rd party tools like withings sleep/body cardio/go and some blood/urine/ultrasound scans etc) i want to find some correlations and check some ideas (for examples check if some molecules like NMN or Resveratrol have effect on my body). And see how fast my body is aging and where im at with it :) Precious ECG data (for example how hearth reacts to stress) should be a huge indicator for measuring health status, trends, changes in body.

Hi. I am interested in HRV. Thought about Oura Ring, but then came across Elite HRV site. I am using one of their approved devices (Polar H9 strap - a new device that is similar to H10) . Downloaded Elite HRV to my iPhone and take measurements every morning. Have you tried Elite HRV? What is your opinion on that ? They also promote their own, finger measurement-based device. I believe, however, that nothing is more accurate than a chest strap. Thanks
@TheQuantifiedScientist
@TheQuantifiedScientist 4 года назад
Hi Israel! I actually used Elite HRV to measure the raw RR-intervals for this video, and I used some computer code to analyze that data. I think Elite HRV works fine, it seems to be well developed, though I really only used the raw data. I don't know about the processing of this, but I assume (given the userbase) that enough time has been invested in this. Yes, I also think a chest strap (as long as it is well fitting) should perform best in most cases. I hope this answers your question. Have a wonderful day!

Does OURA really measure HRV? I believe it's rather pulse rate variability, right? I mean, OURA doesn't measure heart rate, it measures pulse rate. It's a big difference for scientists ;-). It might fit for young healthy individuals but potentially can be misleading with people who have cardio-vascular conditions...

Hi Rob, can you please explain the difference between HRV and arrhythmia. Although I believe in the scientific findings, I find it hard to understand why high variability is good? I thought high variability would be the same as arrhythmia. But apparently not?
@TheQuantifiedScientist
@TheQuantifiedScientist 4 года назад
Hi Azat, I would need to dig into this a bit deeper to give a comprehensive answer, but I expect it all has to do with the underlying cause of the HRV. Normal HRV "is controlled by a primitive part of the nervous system called the autonomic nervous system (ANS). It works regardless of our desire and regulates, among other things, our heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and digestion.". (www.health.harvard.edu/blog/heart-rate-variability-new-way-track-well-2017112212789 ). From what I understand arrhythmia is "due to problems with the electrical conduction system of the heart." (wikipedia), and it can also go hand in hand with abnormal heart rhythms (so the way the heart beats) . However, in tracking HRV, it might be that I cannot easily distinguish between the "good" HRV and arrhythmia. Both cause variation in the time between heart-beats, but the underlying cause is different. I am not a doctor or a HRV expert, but this is my best understanding. I would have to take some time to read more about it to give you a better answer. Hope this helps though! Have a great day!

Hey how did you figure out the hrv for the polar strap ? Did you use elite hrv or calculated it yourself ?

Could you review Fitbit versa 2, for sleep?:)

Hi Silje-Sofie, I actually plan to compare a few FitBit models (Fitbit Charge 2, Charge 3, Charge 4 and Fitbit Ionic). I suspect that if all of those turn out to be similar, that you versa 2 will also perform similarly. Stay tuned for that video :-D. Have a great day!

Very interested in your views on various apps, especially the ones that can use the phone camera

Hi Iain, thanks for your question! Do you mean apps that track heart-rate using the phone's built-in sensors? Or for tracking other things?

Sorry, realised that was vague. HRV monitoring apps that can use the phone camera to take the reading

Great quality video my brother. I am looking at the Oura ring for HRv and sleep monitoring, but I read some research that raised serious questions about the veracity of the sleep data that Oura ring provides. Have you seen this research? If so, be great to hear what you thought of it, thanks :)

Great video and data! I believe some of the missing data may have been from the fit of your ring. It looked slightly loose which can cause inconsistencies in the readings, especially during movements during sleep.

Hi! So I use the Oura ring and a FitbIt Charge 4 continuously. I also have some more custom devices, like a device that measures my light exposure and one for environmental temperature. I used the Spire Stone for a few years, but the charger broke, and they do not produce them any more... I track my home cycling with the Tacx Neo 2 Smart trainer.
