That is EXACTLY what it takes Adam! Don’t be discouraged by the endurance- it comes quickly with consistency. And you’re right, as you drop a little weight, you’ll feel the difference. 💪🏼🏃🏻

As a person ages, it does take longer to lose weight and get into shape. It all has to do with metabolism and organ functions. Slow & steady wins the race. It may take longer, but you can do it.

The reason it felt so jarring is because your brain is remembering how smooth the treadmill is. That shock goes away after a few days. When I started, I could only jog slowly to the end of the block. Within a few days I was up to a half mile and a few weeks, two miles. I was 50 lbs overweight. After a few months I was running instead of jogging. Dont give up!
@peppranne6314
@peppranne6314 4 месяца назад
This is not true, the shock does not "go away". Running is high-impact and very hard on your body. If you ask a doctor they will tell you to walk fast or use the elliptical machine and not to run. It's rough even on slim young bodies and prone to causing injuries but even more so on older heavy bodies. That being said, I'm a runner and I love it. Please work up to it and take proper precautions against injury. To go from nothing right into running is insanity. Marathons are about endurance and cardio, start there.

Proud of you for taking the first step. Instead of focusing on a distance at first and failing, focus on time. Try 3 rounds of 2 minutes jogging and a 5 minutes walking and see how far you can get. Then as you build that stamina you can adjust as needed. Little more jog, little less walking as you get better and faster. TRUST ME THIS WORKS. I lost over 100 pounds and became an avid runner using this method. Keep at it Adam, we're all rootin for you!

Watch your knees. Starting to jog or run after not for a long time is very hard on the knees and joints. Better off just brisk walking - gets the heartrate up and easier on the joints. IF you must jog, ease into it over a month or so.

I strongly suggest you follow a half marathon plan for beginners. You will wear out fast if you just go out and jog as long as you can. You need to build up and you have plenty of time to do that. I suggest a walk/run. Timed out example: run 1 min walk one min and gradually increase the run time. You can do the whole race run/walk. Trying to go out and run a whole mile at the start like you did in this video is a good way to get injured! Good luck! I know you can do this!

I've used the Couch to 5K app in the past and it helped me more than anything. It got me outside and moving, little increases over a set period of time, endorphins kick in.. I felt better and actually completed the 5K before the staff took down the banners and folded the tables. Never did more than a really fast walk - 99% of those who participated ran the entire 5k as a warm up for that afternoon's 10K. Not me. I went home and soaked in a tub of epsom salts. I was 47 when I did my first 5K. Just have 5 months left as a 57'er to do my 2nd. HAHA!!

My husband is a runner, he did the Dopey. Please look up a running program. Makes it easier to transition into running❤ Also, keep in mind your body is not used to all of this. People are spot on with saying to get your heart checked out. They are also correct in saying that your joints are the same age as you, when people push too much in the beginning they typically end up with an injury like a meniscus tear. So be kind and go easy❤

15 years older than Adam here. I'm 155 on a 6' 1" frame. I can walk - brisk walk - with the best of them. But running is out. Even with a skinny body, at 65, running just ain't happening. So, when weather permits, I fast walk anywhere from a mile to 2.25 miles a day. Even if I physically could run, I think I'd still opt for the walking. Why? Because I worry about wear & tear on the feet, ankles, knees, and hips. I think walking is far easier on the bones.

Hello Adam. At the age of 70, for my birthday, I did a Fast Walk for a 2 1/4 mile from my house to our Starbucks. I had to prove to myself that I could still do it… wow, that was crazy, but I did it! It’s not like I could jog, so a fast walk was my option. And seriously, the idea at my age maybe not such a good idea; but like you, I wanted to see if I could do it! Building your muscles up from a brisk walk to faster, then jogging is a good way to get where you want to be. Don’t over-work your joints too quickly. We’ve watched you for years now and know once you set your mind to do something, you’ll get there. We are rooting for you! Enjoy your weekend and remember that you are important and an amazing person! From Life After 70, here in Anaheim… see you in your next video! ❤️jogging ❤

I found that starting with a brisk walk and using the lamp posts or timing your self for 30 seconds to 1 minute, doing a walk for 30 seconds then brisk walk and alternate between the two to build endurance,. Then you can build speed from brisk walk to jog. You will find it hard to start with, but after a week or two you will find it better. Don't forget to do some rest days to let your muscles grow stronger.Yoga or palates does help with the stiffness. Start slow and grow on it.👍

I started running again in my late 40’s. One of the the greatest tips I received was when you start out running focus on an object, looking straight at it whether that’s a tree a sign and then just keep focusing on that and when you get past that obstacle then focus on the next thing it’ll help you to focus your breathing while you’re running, you’re doing great Adam at our age we got to keep moving

Intermittent running, run 2 min walk 3, repeat. Slowly increase the amount of running between walking.

@@TheDailyWoolook into Jeff Galloway, he made the run walk run method famous. Any walk segment over 30 seconds doesn’t provide value though. Start run 30, walk 30, run 30, on repeat. You’d be surprised how fast you can run a race with walking. I run 90, walk 30, run 90, and run a sub 2 hour Half marathon, 9:00 minute pace…with walking! Happy to chat about it offline sometime

I’ve been there and yes, it is an awakening. I started by fast walking with a goal of 15 min/mile for 4 miles… took me several weeks to achieve that as the first time I did it I was at about 17 min avg. Once I hit 15, I started to jog about a block, then fast walked until heart rate went back down then jogged again. Eventually, I was able to jog longer periods more often. I have a bad knee so I find it difficult to jog but fast walking still seems to do the trick. Keep it up!!! Definitely recommend the walking jogging but try walking fast instead as more fast walking and less jogging is better than jogging a bit and walking slowly and probably better than the treadmill as I find that boring. Look forward to seeing you progress.

Hey I think it's great what you're doing. I'm giving unsolicited advice so I apologize in advance. You may have already considered this. And of course I don't know your reasons for wanting to run. However walking is much better for your body especially after years of not being in shape. It's less strenuous on the spine and joints. And you still get a lot of benefits from it. I mean a lot. With running you don't get as much muscle balance as you do with walking. Also check out the ketogenic diet and carnivore. I had years of pain that was undiagnosed. The doctor kept insisting that the slight scoliosis I had could not be to blame for all of the pain I was having. Turns out they were right. I had chronic inflammation. Carbs and sugar. a few months on keto my triglycerides went way down, they were nearly 300! Also I no longer had to wear my crocs around the house because my foot pain was gone. Back pain? Completely cured. Also I lost 40 pounds in just under one year. At first I lost weight very quickly because it was inflammation. About 14 pounds. That explains why I had so much pain. Anyway the point is it's not easy getting older and feeling out of shape. I'm 54 and I'm doing much better but I still need to lose about 30 pounds.due to vacations and other things I stopped eating keto and some of my problems have returned but thankfully not as bad as they were. I just decided to start eating ketogenic again to keep those problems from coming back. Good luck to you!

Woah my man. Please don't jump into something like this before getting checked out by a physician. Really. You have not really been kind to your body over the past years. Since your BMI is probably not ideal, you might undiagnosed sleep apnea which can wreck your heart and other organs. We don't want you to stroke out or drop while while you train. Also, with your height and weight, you can do severe damage to your joints. Not good to have damaged joints going into your 50s and beyond. I hope like minded fans here will back the health advice and concern that's being shared. The people that tell you to just push through are not doing you any service.

When I turned 50 in September 2022 (approx 20 years truck driving), my cholesterol, A1C, and blood pressure were high. Changing my diet with my physician's assistance (including hypertension meds), I lost 65lbs and all those numbers are now normal. No, you do not have to give up your "piping hot caffeinated beverage", just take it black (nothing added) and make sure your sugars are less than 75% of RDA. Same with sodium (aka salt). You'll see those lbs melt away! And I walk around 3-5 miles per week.

@@toddsimpson9164yep same! I went from 185 back to 165 in 3 months simply by intermittent fasting and drinking coffee in morning with a banana until lunch time, light lunch and chipotle bowls for dinner. Stopped eating like I did during the pandemic. Targeted 1650 cals a day plus 10k steps daily (easier done w a dog). But definitely agree it’s important to ease into it!
