Out-of-State Car Registration Crackdown 

They tax your income , they tax your car and they tax your home. Literally paying subscriptions to exist

How about cracking down on state government taxing used vehicles changing hands instead taxing the vehicle ONCE when it's sold brand new.

We the people shouldn't need permission from the state to drive our car down the road in the first place. Second there's a tax on gas to cover the road work.

Maybe instead of all these patrols and task forces they could just lower their fees so people will keep their plates in CT... People are fleeing Illinois because of the insane tax rates. 80,000 people left in 2020 alone. The money will go where it isn't being stolen from taxpayers.

Legally, states can't do anything about out-of-state plates. Under Federal law, if your vehicle is registered in ANY state, the registration is legally valid in ALL states.

As a Maine resident, I take issue that our registration fees are low. If ours are ridiculous, then Connecticut must be horrendous. Registering a new truck with a sticker price of $50,000 would cost $1200 plus plate fees.

Park backwards and get a plate hider device. South carolina isn't like that luckily but i had my out of state tags because i refuse to pay property tax on a car I own. lol fuck that. you try and steal from me so i gotta do what i gotta do to protect myself and my income.

There's a similar situation happening in OR. People in OR are registering their cars in WA to avoid emissions inspection.

This whole country needs to be audited, every city ,every state, every county. The fkng robbery has run so rampant, they have people in a constant motion from state to state, city to city, county to county, looking for something that isn't obvious / blatant robbery. The pillaging has been going on relentlessly, for so long it has become standard practice. They're like junkies, always looking for more product and endless pursuit for new/ more sources, as their habit progresses. Sadly it's broken from one end to the other, and everywhere in between. Beyond detox/ rehabilitation . The books/ laws have been fudged beyond recognition / decipherability. An entirely new firm needs to be brought in , most likely by force.

YEA BUT... the flip side of this is harassing nonresidents. A few years ago, I used to have to visit Connecticut several times per week for a work contract. This "particular" town harassed me all the time. I got pulled over at least once per week. Had the tax collector show up and put stickers on my car. Got tickets for not changing over my license or registration. Yet everyday, I would leave Connecticut and go home, outside of Connecticut. I went to court with EZ Pass records, signed statements from my neighbors, these douchebags did not care. What a god damn shake down. They tried pushing the excuse if I work in CT, I need to change everything over. What?? No I don't. I DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!

Where is that $900M going?? How about incentives for those of us who do waste our money on CT registration? Was any type of penalization discussed regarding car tax evaders as they apply to the tolls??

Some people who live in NY do this to avoid paying high insurance costs by using a relative's address in another state. However if they get into an accident they may get in big trouble with their insurers because this is a form of insurance fraud.

ive never been in a state that taxed vehicles other than buying license plates or sales tax when its sold. is it legal to charge more tax on a vehicle after you buy it and pay tax for buying it and also buy license plates for it. sounds a lot like why this country was formed

What are they going to do start demanding people state how long they’re living in state and out of the state? If CT makes it difficult for person to register their vehicle and get a tag then they’re going to find a way around getting a tag for their vehicle(s) in a different state so they can legally drive their vehicle on the road.

I registered my truck in VA aprox 2 years ago and have liability insurance truck is paid for I’ve lived in Maryland and 90% of my work is in northern Virginia so Maryland has a flag on me for a huge tax dispute that I was garnished and paid in full back in 2016 the worthless Mva in Maryland and their extortion unit central collection adgency has robbed me and hundreds of thousands of other tax paying citizens of Maryland for decades and now since Va doesn’t rip me off in this situation I’ve been still working and driving back and forth with no problems until last night when on my way home from work a Baltimore county cop is in front of me and suddenly jumps into the right lane and tries to force me to pass him by slowing down to 5 miles per hour so I get in right lane behind him and he stops to make me go around him and then lights me up and says I have been stopped because my lights were not aligned and were shining in his mirror WTF I GET A TICKETS AND WAS DETAINED AT THE SEEN FOR OVER A HR WITH 7 units lined up backing up their Conrad against little old me MR TIERED OF GETTING FUCKED DRY BY THE MARYLAND GOVERNMENT THIS COUNTRY HAS GONE TO HELL IN A HAND BASKET!!!!!!

I got a solution. Call up all the other states that these vehicle are pretending to be from, and ask the officials how are they able to do it. Then follow suit. That will eliminate people having the need to pretend to come from a different state. It's a simple problem to fix. If you ask me. As opposed to burn an extra hours, extra gas, and paying over time to read license plate. That kind of sounds counterproductive.

So if someone's old car breaks down, they need a fairly reliable car but can't afford to pay inflated prices for a new car and a generous family member sells them a used car with 50k miles for a very low price they still have to pay a multi-thousand dollar use tax as if they were paying sales tax on a almost new car? The buyer has to pay this tax even though the generous family member paid sales tax in another state, DOUBLE TAXATION? The buyer who is barely getting by might have to sell the good car and get a piece of $(#$&#( just to pay the damm use tax. the This is taking advantage of someone in a tough spot and when the government and its no wonder people hide things from the government.

I paid 27% on my income then I use that money of mine that I already paid my tax on to buy stuff to then pay more tax and then pay an annual tax because I continue to own it

A lot of it’s not just about cheating the system. It’s about the stupid inspection laws at some states have that are completely ridiculous. Take Delaware for example they don’t train their employees right at the state DMV and every time you go there another employee has a different set of rules that they think is right and if you try to argue with them, they’ll fill your car who wants to deal with that headache it shouldn’t be a hassle going to the DMV to get your car inspected annually as long as you know your car is legally able to be operated Turn signals working no check engine lights, headlights working tires and brakes OK You should be able to make up your own rules just cause you think you have the authority to and then when I question your authority it turns into an ego match and I end up getting failed because you’re an idiot that can’t recognize your own mistakes

It's the local states giving such a hard time. I am registration my commercial vehicle in Vermont because of the headaches New Jersey has set forth. I have reached out countless times and no one seems to want to help. This is why states lose money. They don't monitor or make these agencies accountable for their lazy actions. It's sad.
