Sunderland went out of the Carabao Cup with a whimper in a 2-0 defeat at Preston. Tonight was further proof that our fringe players are nowhere near good enough.
All those players with the exception of Chris Rigg and Zak Johnson were Kristjaan Speakmans signings - I rest my case.

Spot on with everything that you have said Wayne! It was a clear reminder to everyone a lad another message to the owners that thus squad overall is simply not good enough and that is why we were the worst team in the Championship last season apart from Rotherham! And we know that Rotherham finished bottom! The majority of those players would struggle in League 1 I reckon! Your spot on about Ekwah and BA they are absolutely terrible and need to go! Few injuries to our first team which always happens to us in high numbers and we will be fighting relegation!

This is not the first time BA has missed such a sitter……Rusyn also doesn‘t cut the mustard. The squad is very weak and as soon as some of our better players are injured (as will happen) we will struggle.

It's the constant frustration arising from all that crazy recruitment. Way too many inexperienced players, a portion who will never make it at this level. All experience got rid of. We need two effective strikers, a quality centre back with presence and pace, and another defensive midfielder with experience (if they won't play O'Nien there). As far as the team last night? At least half of them need to go out on loan or be sold. That said, I like the noises Regis LA Bris has been making but I'm fully expecting a power struggle between him and Speakman. I only hope Dreyfuss backs LA Bris because he knows a lot more about football teams compared to Speakman. Chin up Wayne.

We had a good start to the game where to be fair the 2nd string side dominated the opening 15-20 minutes against a strong Preston side but once Preston went in front it was men vs boy's, don't get me wrong unlike Bradford in pre season the effort was there but unfortunately many of that team are simply not good enough, the only ones that come away with any credit were Moore who was my MOTM by a country mile, Triantis, Ekwah and Rigg, everyone else was either average or poor, the striker situation needs sorting out now cos it's getting ridiculous now but we do need another 3 or 4 in on top of that cos when u think about it aside from Ekwah if he's still here, Rigg and possibly Aouchiche, none of these are good enough to come in if anyone got injured, suspended or sold, it's time to start signing some players cos let's be real this transfer window has been shocking so far, let's be real if it wasn't for Browne majority of the fan base would be absolutely fuming right now, it's time for this lot to pull there finger out and bring in some reinforcements

One thing that totally baffles me is why have 1st teamers on the bench but under any circumstances they weren’t going to come on ? What was the point ? Of trailing them down in the bus

From a Preston fans view of the game. I thought BA and RIGG was a handful and MOORE decent saves. Interesting how you thought BA was so bad but you get to see him often so must be a frustrating player I’m guessing. Was looking forward to seeing Alan Browne back at deepdale so that was a shame. See you back at deepdale in the league 👍🏻

I disagree with what you said about speakman at the end. I'm furious that he hasn't got a striker but he's got so much right its harsh to say he's done a bad job because the backup team isn't beating an established championship team. We were shit but it's our 2nd team and we can't have 22 players who should be starting. Nice to have the analysis and commentary cheers

Started canny but got steadily worse Wayne, Moore and Rigg the only ones who came out of the game with any credit, defence was shocking and I think your marks for them were generous. All in all a night where too many failed the test and did themselves no favours at all, my only hope is that the players who they think they can replace stay fit because most of that lot last night are miles off the first team. My anger and frustration with Speakman's arrogant stance grows longer as the transfer window grows shorter.

Great comments John. Once Ba missed that chance the game turned and we fell apart. The silence about the lack of a striker is deafening. Our squad is terrible bar the the 1st 13/14 players. Very worrying.

Very eye opening performance, simply not good enough, will be so worried if we pick up some early first team injuries.we need this striker in now ,can’t believe it’s taking this long and not 100%convinced it is going to happen, surely the powers above can’t be that blinkered 😡great opinions and great content to your videos as always 👍

Im not to worried about the result but some of the performances bar the first 20-25mins were really poor .It shows us that if we have any injuries or need to change the team we have no real backup

I don't hold with this it's a worthless cup only a worthless cup if your not in it ,reality means that this is probably one of the only cups any team has chance of winning these days,as the big boys have the rest tied up.last night was everything that is wrong with Sunderland no ambition and total lack of respect for the fans,I don't know wether this manager has been told to play reserves in these games but if he hasn't he wants to feel ashamed sending that side out ,what a chance to progress in major comp and it's thrown away ,but more to the point it stops the momentum and that's a massive thing ,you have to get that feeling good factor running through club,anyway it's my opinion mate.keep up good work

Totally agree mate, you should go out to win every game and that last night was a statement of no ambition like we have done in the last few years. We should have built on Saturdays result and it's a shocking state of the squad that we had to rest 11 players incase any of them get injured,

Can see the logic of fielding a b team say we go with our strongest 11 and we win we are only going to go out to an arsenal or a united a round or two time. Then the confidence and moral takes a hit in league this was hopefully the right decision let’s see how the a team play this weekend see whether this was a good choice
