I have a request: can you do a video just like this one but with an “average person” (not a model), someone who doesn’t know how to pose? It’s obviously easier to work with someone who knows how to pose and is naturally gorgeous. 😉

Yesss i struggle with this a lot, ppl with experience are so easy to cooperate and work with but when someone is awkward with posing and doesn’t know how to im just not sure how to get them to become less stiff and pose better

Hi Jessica!! Nice video! Maybe it's a good idea if you also write the focal length you shoot, because you say you're using a 24-70mm, but not if the shot was 24, 50 or 70mm. I think that this way we can also get used to differentiating between some ranges and others in the photos. Thanks for reading me! :)

This video is not titled correctly. Your tips are great but have nothing to do with being outside. You can do those same exact poses inside. You really didn’t got into anything tips that can help a new photographer prepare for a shoot outside. As someone said else already commented, you didn’t even mention that it’s an overcast day. That makes a major difference in the outcome of the photos.

@vayermenoviko0linixD

As an amateur photographer for the past 3 years or so, I'd say I expect the model to communicate, first and foremost. Be open, don't be shy, make sure to tell me if something is making you uncomfortable, tell me if you need a break etc. Change your poses. Don't be afraid to do things, to try poses, don't expect the photographer to pose you 100%, take some initiative so I can work with that and correct what I see needs to be corrected through my lens. Be on time. Super important, sometimes we're shooting for a very limited amount of time or there are serious deadlines running. We can't always afford to waste time, even minutes, unfortunately. Be patient. Sometimes it might be hard to get the perfect angle or find the perfect settings for the photo, so try to understand that. It's not an ideal situation for either of us, it's even kind of stressful when you're shooting with a new model for the first time, but it happens. Be mindful, we get tired too and sometimes we lose vision of what we wanted to shoot and personally I feel so bad when it happens to me because it's like I'm wasting your time, but it's part of the process. Make sure you listen to instructions and clear your head of worries, they can show. We're a team, it's like I'm coaching you, you can't see yourself so you have to listen to pointers from me. That shouldn't discourage you or make you feel like you're doing something wrong, some models think that if they're getting a lot of tips from the photographer it's because they're not doing it right but that's completely untrue (also keeo in mind that some photographers prefer to talk a lot and give you tons of tips, hype you up etc and others are very quiet - neither of these means you're not doing well enough, it just depends on the person). That's all that comes to mind rn but I literally can't stress enough how important communication is, it's what can make or break a collaboration. Hope it helps. Good luck!

@@iShanus I heard that comment too. In my opinion, lots of female photopgraphers/influencers, like Jessica Kobeissi, Jessica Whitaker, Irene Rudnyk etc are afraid to use flash. I don't know why, it's not that hard. You can't always rely on the available light
@NL0Gwenster
@NL0Gwenster 4 года назад
@@wanneske1969 Eh. Alternatively, instead of opting to choose for the sky and fill-flash she can just opt for a diff background. Like the sitting down ones where there was a bunch of grass behind the model. It's also not always about always carrying a flash with you. But deciding on your composition. I feel that this could have been more key with her available equipment to negate your criticism. Having said, i do agree that with a nice fill-in it would've been softer when using the sky as a backdrop here.

Your communication with the model ist very good, there is a lot of experience. Like it! Perfect poses. But the background ist sometimes not so pleasing (trees etc.) in your photos. Be more careful. The portraits could also use a more blurry bokeh. Instead of f 4,0 or 5,0 better use f 1,2 to 2,0. The background wouldn't disturb so much. But this is not possible with a zoom lens. Even with a Canon L-Zoom-lens. Portraits need wide-open fixfocus-lenses except you work in a studio or you have a a calm pleasing background outside. Don't get me wrong. I like your channel a lot.

A lot of famous photographers kind of have completely forgotten about the exposure triangle it seems. I respect Jessica for her eye, amazing post-processing skills and fun personality (been watching for years; most notably the challenge vids. But you cannot teach that you're just changing the aperture on your lens (whilst keep the ISO/shutter) that you will get an under/over-exposure. Ofcourse you will if let in light whilst keeping the other 2 parts of the equation the same. Rather Teach that aperture is a key component in creative choice (shallow DOF or not) and then adjust ISO/Shutter to match the aperture you want. This is simply weird. Somebody that looks at this and knowing absolutely nothing about photography is gonna change the aperture from F4/ to whatever he or she has and wonder why the exposure stays the same if the camera is auto-adjusting the other 2 values ...

This video is titled "Outdoor Portrait Photography tutorial," but its instead a tutorial on _posing._ There is no information on how to postion the model relative to rhe sun, how to use and deal with shadows in outdoor lighting, when to rely on natural lighting and when to being extra lighting equipment, but to epose for the model's face without blowing out the sky, how to avoid wither the model squinting at the sun or being too dark because they're backlit by the sky, how ro deal with outdoor lighting and noon when the sun is directly above everyone… pretty much anything any new photographer would want to know about how to handle the trickiness of outdoor photography in general. These are all poses that would work outdoors or indoors.

Great tips and shots, but there are too many ads for my preference. You spent 1.5 minutes talking about PPA and then in the next 5 or so minutes the video is interrupted 3 times. Maybe you could find a way to monetize the video without breaking up the flow of it so much. Or perhaps I should stop being so cheap and just invest in youtube premium.

These are all excellent tips but let's be honest Sophia is obviously a Pro. She's definitely gorgeous but she's moving into position without even needing a word of direction. I think a more useful video would be with someone who's not used to receiving direction. Sometimes verbal direction is not that easy (especially when English is not their first language). How do you show someone what you are looking for with hand movements and your own body movements is probably more useful. As always though, Jessica is the best!
