I love the contrast between a very familiar feeling western drama combined with a Twilight Zone sci-fi concept. Just watching Brolin's carved-in-granite face react to these mind bending concepts is fantastic.

I just noticed this on Amazon and came here to get your take. As long as the sci-fi doesn’t go bonkers like Cowboys and Aliens, I’m good, though I’m more in the mood for Old Gods Of Appalachia style. It’s got a “Lost”, M. Night Shyamalan thing going for it. Personally, I’m more interested in the modern western element of the show, as there’s so much unique storytelling and culturally captivating content potential within it, but the sci-fi element isn’t too far out to still take seriously. The show will definitely give some much needed “American” resonance to today’s social media/instant gratification societal landscape, and sell a boat load of waxed trucker jackets for the Carhartt company. Just hope the plot continues onward with the same level of suspense and substance as it unfolds. Think I’ve got a new fave show to binge out on every couple of weeks, and for the time being, I’m sold💪

A bit short on subtlety. The Good Family lives in a modest wooden farm house and they ride horses. The Bad Family lives in a stone and glass mansion and they ride ATVs. The (not found in nature) side-by-side ranch entrances made me giggle. Will Patton offers connective tissue from Yellowstone to Outer Range.

@Ganon999
@Ganon999 2 года назад
Yeah for me, the first episode was pretty strong and I was really into the mystery of what "the void" in the field is and the acting was engaging. However, the second episode needed to pick up the pace just a little bit, which it ended up doing right until the very end where Autumn asks "what did you see?" and then it shows what I would describe as a poorly lit and ugly mess of scene with poor visual effects that just threw most of the mystery right out the window. It's what I assume is an alternate reality or timeline which explains the Cronos references made earlier but it's presentation was very messy in my opinion. On a side note I kept wondering why Royal wouldn't tell anyone about the hole in the ground especially with a family member missing moreover even out in the middle of nowhere you would be able to see something like that from a distance and I'm wondering why no one has.
@nedmonk5938

So far many of the scenes are slow but they are very deliberate. You can feel the tension building. I have some observations I want to point out so my post does include spoilers. Go watch the show first. This portal obviously passes through time, but possibly alternate dimensions or parallel universes. There are so many clues that are very subtle, but will certainly be important in the upcoming episodes. When Brolin gets pushed into the portal, he goes into the future. You can see the mining and oil equipment in the background. Luke shot him in the leg. The hippie chick is the leader of a cult wearing yellow shirts. But what is up with the timer? The military, the cult, the Tillersons, and the entire community, including Royal's wife and sons, were there waiting for him. The timer was at zero as if they were all expecting him to show up. How? Why? I also think that portal goes to the past. That buffalo with the Indian arrows stuck in its side supports that. Indians hunted buffalo on those plains back in the 1800's, and I think that buffalo fell through the hole and ended up in the present time. I believe Tillerson knows about the hole and that is why he is suddenly going after the west pasture after all these years. Keep in mind that Royal went to the clerk's office and looked at the old survey maps of the land from the 1800's and were all messed up. I believe Tillerson went to the past and manipulated the maps so he could get the rights to the west pasture. I think we'll find out in the coming episodes that past and future events can be manipulated and changed and we're gonna see a struggle between Royal and Wayne Tillerson.
@joshuaberkbuegler8664
@joshuaberkbuegler8664 2 года назад
Autumn was also waiting for him that night. She’s camped almost completely across the west pasture with no horse or car. He was riding with no light. She KNEW he was going to be there that night and pushed for a reason. I’m 100% invested in this show now and am interested in seeing how they play her character.
@paulcrandall2534
@paulcrandall2534 2 года назад
@@joshuaberkbuegler8664 You're right. I kinda missed that. She was camping on the other side of the property. There's no way she would be at that exact spot at that exact time without knowing what would happen. She was waiting for him. Also recall when she first met Royal, she said is was finally nice to meet him. She knows he's important for something. I'm with you. I'm 100% committed to the show too. I don't care about the negative reviews from the "professional" critics. Five stars from me so far. It's nice to see something original for a change. I love this show so far and can't wait to see what unfolds.
@nysockexchange2204
@nysockexchange2204 2 года назад
I'm not sure the Tillersons know about the hole as much as they know about rare minerals in the west pasture. Royal found Dr. Bintu's business card and after his brief look into the future it's obvious what Wayne was after in that pasture.

I've only just started this show, but if you have a missing family member on a struggling ranch, then find a hole, you immediately think I should tell someone because A that missing family may have fallen into and need help and represents a danger to others and the very least something that could make money as a curiosity. Josh Brolin is a great actor and it just feels really like he should have MUCH better dialogue. Will Patton is also a great actor and while his dialogue and deliverance is awesome once again I think the writer should've done much more! Two episodes in already so of course they won't have changed anything. These are just a couple of my observations. One thing that really got on my nerves was when the 2 guys showed up looking for their brother and they pushed their way into the doorway and no one stopped them? Few other things that were just too annoying like why in the heck didn't Royal's wife kick that girl (Poots) off the property right away when she was made aware of her existence there? DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT EP 1+2 POTENTIALLY SPOILED!! . . . . . . . My take on it is that Royal is in the afterlife in what he perceives to be the "normal" world. His wife Cecilia, says in the "grey, dim other world" that he died in her arms 2 years ago. OR it is also possible that the "other world" is a future state beyond 2 years from now. Royal did get a small glimpse of the future when he stuck his arm in the hole. It makes sense that with complete immersion he could see years into the future. BY9.... hmmm

Lost interest very quickly when most of the scenes literally I could barely see, guess I'm missing point,however I'm done with it.
